My Alleged Husband

Chapter 393: Chapter 372 The Truth Revealed_1

Old Master Zhang heard Li Haixiao say these words, and he really wanted to tell him loudly that the kidney he was carrying was also given to him by a kind-hearted person, or rather by his precious daughter who donated it to him! But Old Master Zhang also knew very well that he couldn’t do that, for if he did, so many years of secrecy would have been in vain, he couldn’t let such a thing happen, and he certainly couldn’t let this revelation slip out because of a slip of the tongue. Yet, he felt that things had come to this point, and if he didn’t reveal the truth now, then, for the rest of his life, this truth would really be lost forever, with no one ever knowing or sharing it again. He couldn’t let his old business companion pass away in ignorance, he wanted to tell him the truth of the matter, but what would be the outcome if he told Li Haixiao the truth?

”Old man, why have you gone silent? Could it be that you know the truth? If you know it, please tell me. He is the person who saved my life, who is he, where is his family? I should also offer my meager support. I’m already of advanced age, and I really want to know, who was it that saved me at that time? If I die without knowing who he is, I won’t be able to rest in peace. He saved my life, allowing me to see my grandson come into this world with my own eyes, to see my grandson grow up happy and successful, and to see my descendants lead one happy life after another, generation after generation. It’s because of him that I have these feelings now, and I’m truly grateful. Elder Zhang, although we’ve fought in business for so many years, you still don’t want me to leave this world with regrets, right? The fact that you came to see me today proves that deep down, you still regard me as a comrade, even though we were once at odds with each other, but now we have become good friends...”

Old Master Zhang felt many emotions upon hearing these words, but he still couldn’t voice them. If he did, he did not know what consequences it might bring—if Li Haixiao were to leave this world suddenly after hearing this truth, wouldn’t he have effectively taken a life? He didn’t dare guarantee that, but he couldn’t bear to see his old comrade, begging with those eyes. His heart was torn by pain and struggle—on one side was his friend, and on the other the risk of a human life. Which should he choose? If he decided to reveal the truth, and his friend left this world in a fit of anger because of it, would the living forgive him, even if it was said in a moment of passion?

”Old timer, don’t hesitate anymore, please tell me quickly. Your hesitation is making me anxious. I just want to know who saved me, is that so difficult? Can’t you fulfill even this small wish of mine? Must you see me leave this world one by one with regrets before you’re satisfied? If I die with my eyes not closed in peace, will you be able to joyfully live out the rest of your days? I believe you won’t, because you’re a good person. I know that every decision you make is hard to take back, but can you help me this one time, as if it were me pleading you?”

This was the first time Li Haixiao had ever pleaded with Elder Zhang for anything. Previously, he would rather die than bow to anyone. But today, wanting to know his life-saver, he was actually asking for help—should he really reveal the truth? Or, would he be satisfied only if Haixiao left this place with regrets?

”If I tell you the truth, you must remain calm as I ask. If you leave this world in a fit of anger after hearing the truth, then no one left behind would forgive me. By telling you the truth, I’m taking on the risk for your life. If you leave after I tell you, when I’m in the underworld, I won’t let you be, I’ll make sure to give you a good beating.”

”Okay, okay, as long as you tell me, who is this person who saved me, I can promise you anything. I assure you, I’ll listen quietly until you finish without getting agitated, alright? Just tell me who it is. I’ll be very grateful. I just want to know who saved my life back then, you don’t have to worry so much. I won’t be leaving this world in a fit of rage after hearing the news!”

”Alright, actually, this person is your very own daughter. When she found out you had kidney disease, she rushed to the hospital for a typing test, which took a long time to come. She couldn’t stand to see you gradually losing weight due to the disease and eventually dying, so your daughter, rather sacrificing her own healthiest kidney, insisted on donating it to you, her father. Because in her heart, she thought her father was the most important person, and that she couldn’t bear to see even a slight harm come to you. Do you understand what I mean by that?”

Li Haixiao nodded and said, ”I understand now. The one who saved me wasn’t an anonymous person, but my own daughter. To save me, she gave up her own healthy kidney, no wonder I hadn’t seen her for several months; it was because of this reason. It’s no surprise I got a match so quickly; as my own daughter, she would match quickly. It was ordained by fate that my daughter’s kidney was given to me, yet I nearly destroyed her lifetime of happiness. How should I face my daughter now? How could I, as a father, not know what she did for me? Now the truth is out, how should I face my daughter? Tell her, that I already know the truth about this matter?”

”I told you the truth because I didn’t want you to leave this world with regrets. Despite our past, despite our many disagreements, you are still my friend and relative. I hope you will think it over carefully. You should live for many more years for your daughter’s sake, who gave you her kidney. If you were to leave, how would it be for your daughter who donated it to you?”
