My Alleged Husband

Chapter 364: Chapter 344: Numbness_1

We never expected that our grandson would say such things. What does it mean to wake her up, that her presence by his side is a mistake? Can’t two people who love each other be together? Has our grandson really worked so hard just to be with the woman he loves solely for gain? Has the child we painstakingly raised become so numb and insensitive like we are witnessing now? He couldn’t accept that the person before him was his grandson. His grandson used to be so kind-hearted, but today, this same grandson felt like a stranger to him.

”Yichen, how can you say such things? Today, you have made me feel very strange. I believed you are the child whom I raised with my own hands and watched grow up. Yet, the words you’ve spoken today were unexpected to me; they shocked me deeply and also caused your wife immense pain. Do you actually find satisfaction in seeing your beloved suffer because of a decision you made? You will never know the regret when you realize it’s too late and she will no longer return to your side. Are you truly content only after seeing your wife leave you?”

”Grandfather, I don’t want to say anything right now. I just want to understand one thing: when the woman I love most used the excuse of giving you a gift on our wedding night to go out and ask you about this matter, it implies that she doesn’t trust me. I cannot accept a wife who doesn’t trust me. Similarly, on the second day after our wedding, she decisively planned to move out, leaving me alone at home. This proves my wife doesn’t hold me, her husband, in her heart. If so, why should I forcibly keep her by my side and make her suffer? Perhaps in my wife’s eyes, she doesn’t see me as the man who suits her best. But in my heart, I feel that my wife is the woman I love most in this life and is the most suitable person for me. It’s not that I didn’t want to be honest with her about it, but when I made the promise to her parents, her father specifically stated that she mustn’t know. I agreed to her parents; how could I possibly go back on my word? As a man, shouldn’t I at least keep my integrity? She is my wife, can’t she understand my good intentions? This is a condition I agreed to under duress; if she truly values me as her husband in her heart, she wouldn’t leave so easily!”

Old Master Zhang really didn’t know how to communicate with his grandson. It was clearly his grandson’s fault, yet why did he insist on blaming his wife? Had the grandson he had raised really become so lacking in the courage to take responsibility?

”Child, when did you become like this? Now, I feel you are very unfamiliar to me. The words you’ve spoken today have shocked me. Are you really the grandson I raised with such effort? Why are you so utterly different today compared to usual? I wish that the person standing before me today wasn’t you, but the grandson I raised. I have no choice but to believe this is the truth. The words you’ve said today, I can’t accept, and neither can your wife. You have let her leave your home, you’ve severed the relationship, do you think your heart is truly at peace? What has made you become like this? So indifferent and callous, do you understand? Your current state frightens me. I am a man who has been through many battles, who has seen the cutthroat world of business, but I have never seen my grandson become as terrifying as this. I don’t understand what you have gone through to become like this, but if you still regard me as your grandfather, if you still remember the ten years of care I have given you, and if you still have any love for the affection I’ve shown you, then please tell me everything. Don’t hide anything from me—I can’t bear it!”

Zhang Yichen hesitated. He knew that he was at fault, yet he couldn’t bring himself to take responsibility. He knew that if he told both his grandfather and his wife the truth, it would only cause them more pain. He could only bear all the blame, looking cold-hearted and indifferent. He also knew that his grandfather’s words were genuinely meant for his benefit, but he still couldn’t bring himself to speak, so he remained silently looking at Old Master Zhang.

”Is there really something you can’t tell your grandfather? Whatever difficulties you have, you can tell me, and I will help you if I can. Do you really not trust your grandfather that much?” Seeing the hesitation in his grandson, Old Master Zhang had to continue speaking gently. He didn’t want his grandson’s defenses to go up again.

”Grandfather, it’s not that I don’t want to tell you about the situation, it’s just that the time isn’t right yet. I can’t tell you. If I told you now, it would only cause you, and the woman I love the most, to suffer even more. I hope you both can live happily without knowing about this, and please don’t tell my wife. I hope her temporary absence will give her some peace.”

Old Master Zhang became even more convinced of something when he heard his grandson say this. All of this really did have a reason!

”Since you are so adamant about not telling me, I can only promise to keep this secret. I won’t tell your wife, but I hope that one day you will be honest with her. Don’t let this hurt turn her love for you cold. The two of you have not come together easily; don’t let a momentary discord rob you of a lifetime of happiness...”
