My Alleged Husband

Chapter 358: Chapter 338: Uncovering the Truth_1

”Grandfather, you should know that if I told her about this matter, the consequences would be very serious. I don’t want her relationship with her parents to become discordant.”

”But are you willing to let your wife misunderstand you like this? Do you know that she came to see me last night under the pretense of delivering something, just to ask about this issue? It shows how much she cares about it. They keep on doing this, drifting further and further apart. Do you understand? If you really care about her, you shouldn’t keep this from her. You said this matter is related to her parents, so you should be honest with your wife. What is she to you? In the future, you’ll live together every day, share the same bed for years, even decades, until you grow old together. If your wife is hiding something from you, how would you feel sleeping beside her every night? Can’t you put yourself in your wife’s shoes and consider her ability to endure this? You have never been a selfish child. I really don’t understand why you’ve become like this. Is it really just because of love for her? I believe you are a child of pure and kind nature. I refuse to believe you made this decision under someone’s influence. Every decision you make must have a deep meaning, but I hope you will also consider the harm you are causing to those who love you!”

”Grandfather, I know everything you do and say is for my best interest. But now, things have come to this point. I have no way to turn back, I can’t give up on the decision I’ve made. If I give up now, how can I still be a man, how am I to face the thousands, even tens of thousands of employees under me? Won’t they doubt me? If a president’s words are not to be taken seriously, what would their opinion of me be? Grandfather, many things cannot be simply as I wish. Many things require certain sacrifices to achieve the results one desires. My love for my wife is sincere, and I believe she can feel it. I trust she won’t ignore me over such a trivial matter and pick a quarrel.”

Old Master Zhang sighed. He had not expected his grandson to be so naive. How could such a thing be so simple? How could his wife not care?

”Child, you are too naive. Do you really believe that if your wife appears indifferent on the surface, her heart truly doesn’t care? She chooses not to speak in front of you because she trusts you, not wanting to embarrass you. But once certain things happen, there’s no turning back. I believe your wife is very clear in her heart that there must be a reason for what you are doing. Your wife is not a fool; on the contrary, she is much smarter than many others. If you are not ready to be a husband, then you shouldn’t have chosen to get married. Since you have chosen marriage, you should not care about others’ opinions and just do what you must. I am getting older by the day. Are you really going to make me wait another three years to hold my great-grandson? Yichen, I am ageing every day, and who knows when I will suddenly leave this world. Can’t you fulfill your grandfather’s last wish? My greatest wish at this age is to see your child playing at my knees, accompanying me through my twilight years. But you propose such terms to your own wife, aren’t you making it impossible for your grandfather to fulfill his greatest wish? Are you willing to watch your grandfather leave this world full of regrets? You know how much your grandfather loves you, and I believe deep down you love me greatly too. But love has many forms, right? Fulfilling your grandfather’s last wish is also a form of love, isn’t it? Are you really willing to watch your grandfather die in front of you, unable to fulfill his last wish?”

”Grandfather, what are you talking about? Your health is good, how could anything happen? Don’t overthink it. Wouldn’t it be wonderful for us to live together happily in the days to come? Don’t get involved in this matter. I believe I will provide her with a reasonable explanation one day, and she will understand my good intentions. I believe I will not misjudge people in this lifetime. She is my wife, and she should have a great capacity for tolerance...”

...

As the two of them discussed this issue back and forth in the living room, they didn’t realize that Ran Zhihan had heard every word. Initially sleeping in the bedroom upstairs, she couldn’t help but come down out of curiosity when she heard voices arguing. She didn’t expect that her decision to check would reveal so much. The reason her husband cruelly suggested not having children within three years was to comply with her parents’ unreasonable condition. As a woman, she found it unimaginable that her husband would agree to such disrespectful terms. After getting married, isn’t having children what a woman should do?

”Grandfather, please don’t let my wife know about this, or she will feel uneasy. I don’t want to see her distraught. I will tell her the truth when the time is right; until then, I hope you will keep everything that we just discussed to yourself!” Zhang Yichen said and then left.

Old Master Zhang didn’t know if he should agree to his grandson’s unreasonable request. If he did, how would he face his granddaughter-in-law? Living under the same roof, they were bound to meet. In that case, how should he confront her?

Ran Zhihan sneaked back up to her bedroom, crying alone. Now she finally understood—the reason her husband didn’t want to have a child with her wasn’t solely due to her parents’ ridiculous demand he had agreed to in order to marry her. She wasn’t upset about the demand; what upset her was why her husband had kept such a significant matter from her, not willing to be truthful. Did he really think she couldn’t handle it? What did he truly think of her?

The more Ran Zhihan cried, the more heartbroken she felt. She had never been this sad before; it was the first time in her life she cried so bitterly, yet there was no one to comfort her. No one knew what she had heard, what she had experienced, or what she was feeling now. To them, she was still in the dark about everything.
