My Alleged Husband

Chapter 372: Chapter 352 Good Gathering Good Parting_1

”Now that you’ve finally come to terms with things, I don’t know what else to say. Let’s just take this time to cool off and really think about why we got together in the first place. Was it an impetuous decision, or was it because we truly loved each other? If we end up with results that neither of us can accept, then let’s just part ways for a while. Once we’re clear-headed, we can face these problems again. Or maybe it’s a lifetime commitment we’re talking about. If a couple is filled with doubt and lack of trust in one another, they won’t find happiness together. I don’t want to be with my wife only to be constantly at odds!”

”I’ve already said it, I know what to do, and I admit that I won’t bother you anymore during this time. Why do you insist on stressing this matter to me with these words? Do you just want to fly solo for a while? Fine, I’ll give you the time to fly on your own. Whether you choose to soar through the skies or become a grounded duck, it has nothing to do with me. You’re free during this time, but once it’s over, you must come back to me. Don’t even think about escaping from me again.” Ran Zhihan said, hanging up before Zhang Yichen could retort.

No sooner had the call ended than Xia Jing called Zhang Yichen.

”Hello, Mom, did you call me for something? It’s already so late, haven’t you gone to bed yet?” Zhang Yichen said to Xia Jing.

”Yichen, Mom has something to ask you. Did you have a fight with your wife and run away from home? Now your grandpa is searching everywhere for you, and your dad has even come looking for you at my place, accusing me of abducting you.”

”Mom, I don’t know how to explain this to you right now. I’m living abroad alone, but I’ll be back after a while. It’s just a small tiff with my wife; I just don’t know how to face her. It’ll be fine after a while. Please, don’t fight with Dad over my issues again. If she comes looking for me at your place again, just tell her I’m abroad and that it has nothing to do with you!”

Xia Jing finally understood, but Zhang Zhentian would never believe her.

”You silly child, do you think your dad would believe what I say? If he did, he wouldn’t have come looking for you at my place. He doesn’t trust me at all. He always thinks your running away is my fault, that I’m the one stirring up trouble and spreading rumors. But how would he know that your departure has nothing to do with me, that during this time, you haven’t even contacted me? However, he doesn’t see it that way; he thinks I’m deliberately hiding your whereabouts, unwilling to tell him.”

”In that case, why don’t you just reconcile with Dad? He behaves this way because he still cares about you. He doesn’t know how to speak to you and has to use me as an excuse to talk to you.”

”I’ve said it before, ever since he proposed divorce, I can never be with him in this lifetime. Since he’s made up his mind, he shouldn’t think about regretting it. There’s no medicine for regret in this world. He’s proposed divorce not once but many times, and each time, I chose to forgive him. But not this time; I won’t forgive him. What he’s done has gotten worse each time. Why should I keep aimlessly forgiving him just because he’s my husband? Just because of my love for him, should I keep considering his feelings and taking the blame for him? I always thought that if he was the one who made mistakes, he would bravely take responsibility and not shift all the blame onto a woman. But not until that last time did I realize that he’s just a coward who dares to act but not to own up. He lets me take the fall for every mistake he makes. What place does he think I hold? I valued him so much, but he was thinking of making me bear all his sins. I really don’t understand... If he had already made his choice, why regret it now? Why not part amicably? Must we end up injured and become strangers? Every word he says to me now only provokes my aversion. Every action he takes disgusts me and is unforgivable. I no longer have the feelings for him that I once did. Once that feeling is gone, love is gone too. My love for him was buried deep when he abandoned me, and it will never be resurrected.”

Zhang Yichen didn’t know what to say to his mother. Had everything turned out this way really nothing to do with him? If he hadn’t repeatedly disappointed his parents, how could they have reached this point? In the end, the primary culprit was still him, their son...

”The truth is, neither of you is at fault for the situation you’re in now. If we’ve come to this point, it’s because of me. All the blame should fall on me, the eldest son. You shouldn’t lose your lifetime happiness because of me. You once loved each other so much; everyone saw it. Seeing how passionately you loved one another, I was envious. But because of me, you have no choice but to end up like this. How could I bear it?”

”You can’t blame yourself for this. It was your mom and dad who heartlessly abandoned you in the first place; we failed in our parental duties. Our abandonment made you hate us. But now you’ve chosen to forgive us, which is the greatest kindness you could show. I don’t want anything else now; I just want to live out the rest of my life quietly. Seeing my son and grandchildren happy is enough for me. I’m not going to dream of conquering the world with him again. That feeling is truly exhausting. I gave up so much for him, and now it’s time to live for myself. Maybe when your dad finally comes to his senses, we’ll each have our places. I hope when you have the chance, you can talk to him and make him understand that parting amicably is the best outcome. We shouldn’t argue for any reason!”
