My Alleged Husband

Chapter 355: Chapter 335 I am a Man_1

Actually, Ran Zhihan really couldn’t understand why her husband wouldn’t want her to also bear a child for him. Did he truly think so little of her in the eyes of the man she loved the most? For her, what mattered most was not anything else, but how her beloved looked at her. But as for the set rules agreed upon today, she found it hard to believe. Was the man before her really her husband? Why would he make such a request so soon after getting married? Wasn’t having a child born of their love a good thing? Why impose these strict rules on her?

Seeing his wife’s preoccupied look, Zhang Yichen started to doubt himself. Had his beloved woman discovered the secret in his heart? Actually, he didn’t want things to be this way. He had promised his in-laws not to let his beloved get pregnant so easily. He had promised to become a father only after three years. He couldn’t break his word; if he did, he wouldn’t be fit to be a man. A man should stand by every word he says, fulfilling the responsibilities he’s promised.

”Silly girl, why’re you unhappy? Could it be that marrying me left you less than thrilled?” Yichen joked.

”Husband, I’m not unhappy. I just can’t understand why, right after we got married today, you would make such a request. Do you really not want to have a child, a product of our love? For me, I could do without everything else; I just hope that our love for each other can always be as sweet. How deep a couple’s feelings can be often depends on whether they have a child born of their love. Yet you’ve put forth this decision. I really can’t fathom what’s going through your mind...”

”Silly girl, you’re overthinking it. I didn’t mean it like that. I just don’t want us to be tied down with a child at such a young age while you still have a career to build. You once asked me to wait three years for you to carve out your path in life. I’ll give you these three years, but during this time, you’re already my wife. I must help my wife achieve her greatest dream; I can’t let my wife be looked down upon. I say this not because I look down on you, nor do I want others to. It would upset me. I just hope you can fulfill the wish in your heart. Since you propose we wait three years, there must be a deep meaning behind it. You can surely achieve your dream in these three years. Wouldn’t it be better if, after your career succeeds, we then have a child who is the fruit of our love? Then we can live without worries, not wondering why a dream wasn’t realized. That way, we won’t have any regrets in our later years, right?”

Ran Zhihan felt her husband made a lot of sense, but why couldn’t she accept this reasoning in her heart?

”Husband, I know all that you do is for my good, but do you truly understand what I want in my heart? I could give up everything for you, abandon my dreams, and stay at home forever, never going out to meet people. But I really can’t comprehend why you insist on adding that last condition of your three commands. You know? I could agree to all your conditions, but that last one indeed makes me feel uncomfortable deep within. I thought marrying the man I love most would mean that he would be extra affectionate towards me. I thought as long as I could spend my life with my beloved, even having no children of our own wouldn’t matter. But now I realize that getting married means having our own child, a testament to our love. I can’t let our lifetime rely on love alone without having our own child. But your one condition seems to thwart my thoughts completely, violently pulling me from my fantasy space into the harsh reality. Husband, I don’t believe your explanations because I think they’re just a set of excuses. Tell me the truth; why did you make that decision? I want to hear the real answer, not some handsome routine meant to deceive me!”

Zhang Yichen hadn’t expected his wife to be so clever; he had only laid out three simple rules for her and told her so many well-meaning lies. But why didn’t she believe him?

”Silly girl, haven’t I told you? I’m really doing this for our own good. There’s no hidden meaning, and I certainly want to have a child with you. Like you, I can hardly wait to have our child who embodies our love. But we can’t right now because we both have careers to pursue, dreams to fulfill, life paths to create. I’m already stepping into the pinnacle of life, but what about you? You’re still treading water on the plains of life. I don’t want you to give up your dreams for me now and regret it later. Treading water isn’t the life you want. What you want is to infuse your life with effort, to shine through your own achievements. I can’t be so selfish; I can’t be self-centered to the point of having you give up everything you care about for me. You’ve already sacrificed so much for me. I’m a man; I should shoulder the responsibilities that a man ought to bear. I shouldn’t always have my girlfriend or my wife pay the price for my sake. Could you really admire a man who only benefits from his wife’s sacrifices, sitting back and enjoying? I believe you disrespect that kind of person. In fact, our views on life, values, and worldviews are quite different. But on this point, your reasoning aligns perfectly with mine! Wife, could we give each other a little more time? Just three years. Within these three years, I will surely help you reach your path in life, achieve your glory. And I will certainly have a child with you, born from our love, after three years. Don’t distrust me, because for us, the most important thing is trust. Without it, even if two people are together, they won’t be happy. We both promised, no matter what happens, to trust every decision the other makes, didn’t we?”
