The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 735: Chapter 735: Persuading the Granddaughter to Take a Break

In April, good news came from the Gu Family: Song Ruqian gave birth to a son, both mother and child were safe. The ceremony on the third day was grand and lively, as he was the Gu Family’s legitimate eldest grandson.

Madam Song, heavily pregnant, didn’t attend. Firstly, this pregnancy was hard-won; she had been on bed rest for three months to nurture the fetus and used it as an excuse to refuse all social outings, determined to safely give birth to the child first.

Now, the child in her womb was six months along, with a pointed pregnancy bump, and both the midwives prepared in the mansion and Lin Qing said the chances of this child being a boy were very high.

Hearing this, Madam Song dared not move about freely, as accidents could happen outside, and food was inconvenient. Staying home was best.

That’s one reason; another is that at her age, attending her grandson’s third-day ceremony with a big belly was a little embarrassing, so she simply used the excuse of nurturing her pregnancy.

Though she didn’t go, the female members of the Song Family did, giving Song Ruqian support and face.

After her son was born, Song Ruqian breathed a sigh of relief. Even though her in-laws did not pressure her, she knew that as the family’s mistress, she needed to give birth to a legitimate son quickly to secure her position.

The first child was a daughter. For this second pregnancy, she followed all of Song Ci’s teachings, involving her husband, and even managed to feed Gai Lanqing until he gained five pounds. This really resulted in the joy of having both a son and a daughter.

In times of happiness, the spirit is heightened. Song Ruqian’s eyes and brows were lit with a glow of relaxation, vibrant and truly satisfied now that she had a son.

”You have good energy.” Song Ci said with a smile after carefully looking at her face: ”Though you are still young, take good care of yourself. Don’t eat too little for fear of gaining weight; it’s okay to gain weight during your confinement. We can slim down after the month, but it’s important to recover well.”

Song Ruqian smiled, ”I’ll listen to grandmother.”

Jiang commented, ”You really should listen to your grandmother. Nowadays, many female family members admire her and hope to connect with her, all wishing she’d share some tips privately on how to bear a good son.”

”Don’t listen to your Auntie’s nonsense. If I were that miraculous, I’d set up a stall outside as a fortune teller.”

Song Ci’s humorous words made everyone in the room laugh.

”Grandmother is a blessed Old Lord; they all just want to share in your good fortune.” Song Ruqian replied with laughter.

Song Ci feigned worry: ”Being blessed or not isn’t important. Just don’t always corner me to ask about how to have children; it’s really draining. But you, having two kids in three years, are already quite fortunate. So for now, don’t rush to have another; give your body a break.”

Jiang curiously asked, ”Is there some principle involved?”

”Frequent childbirth can harm a woman’s body, especially if the postpartum period isn’t well managed, leading to future suffering. Moreover, kids close in age might be good playmates but it’s better not to have them too close in age to reduce competition, whether in childhood or adulthood. The older one will tend to know how to be considerate and protective.” Song Ci said meaningfully.

The others listened and then understood the deeper meaning.

In childhood, they might compete for affection, and when they grow up, it would be about competing for family assets and power.

”Don’t worry, grandmother. My husband also said we’ll wait until Yu’er is three years old and starts his studies before having another.” Song Ruqian said shyly: ”He’s also afraid that consecutive births will harm my body.”

Song Ci nodded, ”Your husband cherishes you; you should appreciate your blessings.”

Song Ruqian felt joyful at heart, her eyes caught something at the screen, and the maid reported that Qi San from the Duke Mansion had come to see the lady of the house.
