The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 727: Chapter 727: The Market Value of the Song Family’s Young Men

When the topic turned to the children’s marriages, everyone in the room started chatting away, discussing the eligible children in the family.

”Speaking of girls, the boys of the Song Family are even more in demand. Now that Zhao’er and the others are already fourteen, you and Second Brother have to start worrying,” Song Zi said with a smile. ”I attend parties now, and I always encounter people asking me about our kids.”

Madam Jiang asked excitedly, ”What kind of families have been asking?”

The young men in the Song Family marry late, except for Song Zhiyu. For the next generation, none has been settled, and now the children are at the age for engagements, so it’s appropriate to start looking.

Though boys don’t worry about finding brides, good girls need to be chosen carefully. After all, a virtuous wife can benefit three generations. To find a suitable bride like Ru Yi, it takes a lot of effort to observe.

If you wait until it’s difficult to find a match, suitable people from good families might have already been chosen by others.

Song Zi chuckled, ”There are all sorts of officials’ families, just waiting for the sisters-in-law to look till they’re dazzled.”

Madam Jiang’s mind was slightly stirred, while Song Family’s Madam seemed a bit bitter. Choosing a daughter-in-law really needs the father of the child involved, which is quite frustrating.

Song Ci observed the expressions of her daughters-in-law quietly and took a sip of tea.

She wouldn’t interfere in the grandchildren’s marriages, only offering opinions for reference.

...

After leaving Chunhui Hall, Madam Jiang first went to her son’s courtyard to check, and seeing everyone sound asleep, she left reluctantly.

Song Zhicheng was playing with his precious daughter, and when he saw her return, he asked with a smile, ”Finished talking with Mother and the others?”

”Yes.” Madam Jiang hugged her daughter and gave her a kiss, saying, ”Just now, Zi mentioned the children’s marriages. Shouldn’t we start considering for our two rascals? According to Zi, those rascals are quite in demand.”

Song Zhicheng snorted proudly, ”Of course, do you even need to see whose sons they are?”

Madam Jiang sneered, ”You’re really pleased with yourself, aren’t you ashamed?”

”Like you, like you,” Song Zhicheng said with a cheeky smile, hugging her.

”Ashamed, ashamed.”

The two of them looked in their daughter’s direction and saw her covering her face, muttering the word ”ashamed,” which made them laugh, praising their daughter for her cleverness.

After playing with their daughter for a while, they saw her yawning, so they called the nurse to take her away to coax her to sleep.

”Speaking seriously, do you have any thoughts about the two boys’ affairs? This isn’t something that can be decided in one go; you have to take your time to choose. My idea is to start looking now, and if there’s a suitable match, we can set it down first without rushing into marriage. Our family can completely allow the bride’s family to keep their daughter for a few more years.”

Song Zhicheng exclaimed teasingly, ”You’re so generous, not in a hurry to drink daughter-in-law’s tea or enjoy her service? Don’t women always say ten years as a daughter-in-law and then a mother-in-law?”

”Get lost!” Madam Jiang kicked him and said sternly, ”I also have a daughter, and I too want to keep her close for a long time and not let her leave early. One must put oneself in others’ shoes.”

”Tsk tsk, our daughters-in-law are truly lucky to have a mother-in-law like you,” Song Zhicheng made sure to flatter his wife.

Madam Jiang spat at him.

”It’s just, wife, although our children don’t worry about finding brides, now both children don’t have titles, and I’m a commoner while you’re from a merchant family... don’t glare at me, I’m not belittling you, just being truthful,” Song Zhicheng said, holding onto her hand that reached out, ”Besides family background, what else do we have to offer? My idea is to wait a couple more years; by then, Jie’er will certainly earn his title, and we’ll have more confidence and choices when discussing marriage, don’t you think?”
