The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 730: Chapter 730: Born Rebellious

Song Zi was really infuriated. While others would support their nieces, Song Zhiqing was using his niece to cling to the Royal Family.

To put it nicely, she would be the prince’s concubine, but no matter how nicely you put it, her status would still be that of a concubine, forced to look at others’ expressions, with countless burdens weighing down on her. Even leaving the house would require permission.

She would have to be a fool to let her painstakingly raised daughter become that kind of mud underfoot.

”Zhihui is grateful for your kindness, but both her father and I are content with moderate wealth and prosperity. We won’t pursue such greater fortunes,” Song Zi coldly refused.

Song Zhiqing’s face turned very unpleasant, as he said, ”What does the Shen Family have to offer that can compare to a prince of the Imperial Family?”

”The benefit of the Shen Family is that my daughter will walk through the front door with dignity on her wedding day, wearing a bright red wedding dress as the main wife. Is that enough?” Song Zi cast a sidelong glance at him. ”I don’t know who persuaded you to make your niece go after wealth and power, but I won’t agree. You might as well give up.”

”What do you mean by that insinuation?” Song Zhiqing’s chest surged with anger.

”You know perfectly well. Oh, by the way, Xiao Wu’s mother does have some connections with Consort Xiao’s family, doesn’t she?”

Song Zhiqing glared, ”Song Zi. My good intentions aren’t meant for you to drag innocent people into this. What does she have to do with this?”

”Good intentions, thank you, but unfortunately, the Lin family’s daughter cannot afford it,” Song Zi stood up, accidentally kicking the chair, and sneered, ”I’ll pretend I never heard about this today. Whoever wants this enormous fortune can take it.”

As she walked out, it was no surprise to find Bai Shuilian standing hesitantly at the door, causing her to snort, ”Not everyone loves being a concubine. Whoever wants to be one can go ahead.”

Bai Shuilian’s face was pale, her lips pressed together in restraint.

”Ridiculous, who taught her to be so headstrong?” Song Zhiqing slammed the table in anger. ”She doesn’t know how to appreciate kindness. I’m her own brother, has she forgotten who actually shares her blood?”

Bai Shuilian walked over and tried to soothe, ”Alright, you are siblings. What grievance can’t be forgotten overnight? She’s your only sister, why hold a grudge against her?”

”Don’t defend her. She’s not worth it. You don’t know what she said just now...” Song Zhiqing hesitated to continue.

”I heard it all.”

Song Zhiqing was taken aback and then, seeing her sorrowful expression, pulled Bai Shuilian over to sit: ”Don’t take it to heart, she didn’t mean it seriously.”

”It’s fine. After all, our statuses are different. It’s understandable that she doesn’t like me,” Bai Shuilian forced a slight smile.

Song Zhiqing hurriedly said, ”It’s just because she hasn’t really spent time with you. She doesn’t know your good qualities. Once she gets to know you more, she’ll naturally see how good you are.”

”Mm.”

Bai Shuilian was indifferent in her heart. Everyone treated her like she was transparent, providing her with good food and drink for appearances’ sake, and that was it.

”Sanlang, don’t be angry with her. You are blood siblings. If she isn’t close with you, who would she be close with? She’ll understand your good intentions in the future.”

Song Zhiqing sneered, ”You’re mistaken. How can you say she is close to me? She’s closer to the eldest brother’s side. In her heart, she probably regards them as her real family. She might even regret being born to the wrong mother, don’t you think?”

If Song Zi were still around, she’d be furious, too, because who doesn’t resent not being born into a good family, including you, Song Zhiqing.
