The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 728: Chapter 728: The Weasel Pays a New Year Visit to the Chicken

When Song Zi returned to the guest courtyard, she happened to meet Bai Shuilian, who invited her to her courtyard. Only upon arrival did she learn it was her brother’s idea.

”You siblings chat, I’ll go have someone bring some tea and snacks.” Bai Shuilian gracefully performed a curtsy and withdrew.

Once she had left, Song Zi furrowed her brows and looked at Song Zhi, saying, ”Third brother, if you wanted to talk to me, why not in sister-in-law’s courtyard? Why insist on coming here.”

Song Zhiqing’s face darkened: ”What kind of way is that to speak, isn’t Madam Bai your sister-in-law?”

Song Zi almost laughed from anger, looking at him with a half-smile.

Feeling a bit uneasy, Song Zhiqing said, ”Even a concubine’s wife is still a sister-in-law. Besides, haven’t you seen the little fifth’s younger siblings? They are your nephews and nieces.”

Song Zi felt a bit upset inside and said, ”Brother, what do you want?”

Seeing her unwilling to mention Bai Shuilian and her children, Song Zhiqing felt a bit irritated, and his face lost some of its warmth as he said, ”Can’t we siblings talk if there’s nothing else? Right now, Guangxiong and I are both in the same court, and you and I are twin siblings. How come you are distant upon returning to the capital?”

Song Zhiqing had some resentment in his heart; his closest sister was a legitimate child, leaving him feeling unbalanced inside. After all, they were twins born from the same mother. Did she even know what was meant by closeness or distance?

Song Zi looked at him inexplicably and said, ”How am I distant? Men and women, at seven, should not sit together. Surely, I can’t often sit with you like this to talk, can I?”

What would it look like then?

Although they were siblings, there was still a gender difference between brothers and sisters, not to mention that both had families now. If they were really always in the same room whispering, who knows how others would gossip about them.

Song Zhiqing choked.

So annoying!

Song Zi also felt bored, stood up, and said, ”If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving.”

”Wait.” Song Zhiqing called out to her and asked, ”Zhihui is fourteen this year, right?”

Song Zi’s heart skipped a beat, she sat back down, and replied, ”What nonsense are you talking about? She’s only thirteen this year.”

”But isn’t her nominal age fourteen or fifteen?” Song Zhiqing said irritably, ”Have you arranged anything for her?”

Song Zi said calmly, ”Her father and I have just set our eyes on the legitimate second son of Vice Minister of Rites Shen’s family. We will be finalizing it in a few days.”

Upon hearing this, Song Zhiqing frowned and said, ”The Shen family? Their family background is just so-so, is that all you aim for?”

Song Zi almost jumped up, with a darkened face, retorted, ”The Shen family’s reputation is upright, Madam Shen is a kind person, and it’s Zhihui’s fortune to be the Shen family’s daughter-in-law. How did that mean anything to your shallow vision? Our Lin Family isn’t some wealthy or noble family, father is just a mere fifth-rank official, and I am an illegitimate daughter. What do you think Zhihui’s background is, to marry into a noble family?”

Song Zhiqing: ”The Lin Family isn’t a wealthy noble family, but she’s also the granddaughter of the Song Family, the niece of both eldest brother and me. How is her background poor?”

”You hit the mark there. Without the backing of the Song Family, I’m afraid they wouldn’t even look at her.” Song Zi scoffed.

The Shen Family is also a big family, with generations of scholars. Without the Song Family as her maternal grandfamily, they probably wouldn’t even consider her. What does the Lin Family have? Developed merely because of Lin Guangxiong, even with some property, it’s still always on the weaker side.

Yet Song Zhiqing still thought her little family was shortsighted. What, does he think their Zhihui could marry into the Royal Family? Wishful thinking!

Without further ado, Song Zhiqing said, ”Think of a way to break off with the Shen family. As her uncle, I’ve found her a better prospect.”

Song Zi held her breath, inexplicably feeling like a weasel giving a chicken a New Year’s greeting, asking warily, ”Who?”
