The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 734: Chapter 734: The Topic Always Gets Derailed

”What’s going on with Zi’nang and the third son?” Song Ci looked at Madam Lu and asked, ”I heard they had an argument. What was it about?”

Madam Lu was annoyed with Song Zhiqing for one thing, but it wasn’t appropriate to say too much in front of an elder, so when Song Ci asked, she just said a few words.

”... Because of what they said in the Leisure Courtyard, I’m not too sure of the details. It’s just that Zi’nang sent a confidant to tell me to keep Aunt Bai in check. She feels that Aunt Bai is inciting the master to seek connections with the powerful, even wanting to meddle in her niece’s marriage affairs.”

This was a subtle way of laying blame.

Song Ci looked over, her expression unreadable.

Madam Lu immediately felt a slight burning on her face and forced a smile, ”I do want to keep her in check, but the master doesn’t discuss anything with me these days.”

Indeed, the more she spoke, the deeper the blame was laid.

Song Ci said, ”You are the official wife. As long as you don’t contradict on major principles, don’t fret too much over the details; there’s no need to tire yourself out. To restrain someone, just follow the rules and uphold justice. As long as you have reason, even the third son can’t say anything.”

In this era, hierarchy, rules, and etiquette are important. Even if Song Zhi pampers that Bai Lianhua, for the sake of his official reputation, he wouldn’t dare go too far.

Madam Lu awkwardly responded, ”Mother is right.”

”Go ahead and get busy. Helping with household management for the past few months, I thought your perspective and thinking would be broader. With an improved perspective, you won’t compete for transitory matters.”

Madam Lu hurriedly stood up to take her leave.

Once she was gone, Song Ci said to Nanny Gong, ”Lu’s heart is still inclined toward the third son.”

Otherwise, she wouldn’t avoid focusing on Song Zhiqing’s actions, putting the blame on Bai Lianhua instead.

Nanny Gong said, ”Husband and wife are one; they rise and fall together. If the third madam doesn’t understand this, being an official’s wife all these years would have been for nothing.”

Song Ci wholeheartedly agreed and said, ”It’s a pity her perspective is still lacking.”

Nanny Gong hesitated but couldn’t help saying, ”Not everyone is like you, treating men as insignificant.”

Look at the old patriarch, when has he ever received a few words of care from her?

It’s as if he doesn’t exist, completely allowing him free reign.

Song Ci glanced at her and said, ”At this age, you can’t expect me to be like the young girls, lovey-dovey with an old man, can you? That would be too much to ask.”

”Just for appearances, you should ask a few questions.”

”What’s there to ask? He’s living more comfortably than I am. At least he can enjoy the company of concubines with their delightful presence. Do you think I can find a young man to discuss romance and poetry with? I can’t, can I?” Song Ci muttered, ”I’ve heard those young boys are prettier than women, have sweet tongues, and have many tricks. If I could experience that, it wouldn’t be a wasted visit.”

Nanny Gong: ”...”

The topic easily veered off, and it’s the kind of veer that’s off-color.

To go visit the rabbit pavilion?

There’s nothing more tumultuous than what’s in front of her.

Nanny Gong was afraid she’d wander further down this skewed path and hurriedly pulled her back, ”No wonder Miss would rush back overnight, afraid Young Master Lin would be foolish enough to try becoming the Prince’s father-in-law.”

”Rest assured, Song Zi is not such a person. She doesn’t even dare to attach herself to Su’er, let alone the Royal Family. The Shen Family’s young master’s household is not bad. It would be best if it could be settled.” Song Ci curled her lip, ”But those princes, each of them has set their eyes on the girls from our family.”

”This shows that the Song Family is the most worthy target to align with, having value makes it so.”

”That’s true, but being eyed by wolf cubs makes our little lambs at home dangerous.” Song Ci said, ”In the future, have people closely accompany Wei’er in her outings.”

Otherwise, she might accidentally find herself taken advantage of. Wolves, if given a chance, will latch on and bite, truly wolf-like.
