The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 731: Chapter 731: The Pillow Breeze Blows

Bai Shuilian continuously soothed Song Zhiqing’s anger, and soon pacified his annoyance.

”Sanlang, does Prince Xiao truly fancy Zhihui? The grandaunt is unwilling, what should we do? Will Prince Xiao bear a grudge against you?”

Song Zhiqing smiled confidently, ”How is that possible? The princes are currently in fierce competition, each trying to win over the ministers. Prince Xiao doesn’t have enough time to ally with me, why would he hold a grudge? Otherwise, do you think he truly fancies a Zhihui?”

It’s only because Zhihui is connected to the Song Family, and a beneficial in-law. Her father is also an official of the Fifth Rank. Do not underestimate the Fifth Rank; it’s a watershed position, and if used well, it can accomplish great things.

There are only so many officials, aside from a few genuine loyalists to the emperor, the rest rely on competition and solicitation, whether by extending goodwill or through marriage alliances. These are all means of pulling strings.

”Actually, Prince Xiao isn’t bad. He’s handsome and gentle-natured. Most importantly, he holds the position of the eldest. Although I don’t understand much about court politics, I’ve heard the phrase ’establish heir, establish the eldest.’ If he indeed becomes the Crown Prince in the future, even as a concubine, those in his harem would become concubines too,” Bai Shuilian spoke softly.

Song Zhiqing’s eyes flickered lightly, and he said, ”You’re quite right, but it’s a pity that fool can’t understand it. She only sees the immediate benefits, not the long-term view.”

”Don’t blame her; she’s just a woman of the inner chambers, what could she understand? People have different ambitions,” Bai Shuilian sighed.

Song Zhiqing snorted coldly.

Bai Shuilian pushed him, chiding, ”Don’t be so entangled. You’re just an uncle. Can you really intervene in a niece’s marriage over her biological mother? She’s not even your own daughter.”

Song Zhiqing replied without thinking, ”If the age were appropriate, would it have even come to her?”

Bai Shuilian was stunned, then teasingly said, ”Listen to yourself. If the age were right, would you have married Wei’er off to him?”

”Why couldn’t I?”

”Madam wouldn’t agree.”

”What does a woman of the inner chambers understand? Hair long, wit short. Ah, I’m not talking about you; there’s no woman more clever than you.” Song Zhiqing embraced her and kissed her sweetly.

Bai Shuilian shyly spat at him, ”You’re so indecent.” She leaned her head on his shoulder and whispered, ”Actually, I think the age isn’t right now, and that’s a good thing.”

”Oh? How do you mean?”

Bai Shuilian slightly raised her head, ”You asked, so I’ll say it, but I might say it clumsily; you mustn’t laugh at me.”

”Just go ahead and say it.”

”Look, with the princes, the Emperor hasn’t decided who will be established yet; everyone is still watching. In a few years, a decision might be made.” Bai Shuilian quietly said, ”If the eldest is established, then in a few more years, wouldn’t the Third Madam’s age be just right?”

Song Zhiqing felt a stirring within, pondering secretly for a moment, then laughed heartily, ”My Lian’er is indeed wise. This reasoning is sound.”

”I’m discussing this with you merely to display my slight knowledge before an expert. You must be fully aware of everything.” Bai Shuilian huffed, tracing her finger over his chest, and said in a haunting voice, ”I only hope our branch prospers, without relying on others’ charity. Sanlang, your talents are extraordinary, no less than anyone else’s. If you choose the right bet in the future, who knows who will be showing charity then!”

These words truly spoke to the heart of Song Zhiqing. His gaze grew cold and distant, as he licked his lips and said, ”That day will come.”
