The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 724: Chapter 724 Clarifying Pros and Cons

If everyone in a family is successful and responsible, that is extremely important and beautiful for the family’s development, but for the Royal Family, it may be something they fear and dread.

The Royal Family needs useful ministers, but not a singularly powerful family that is widely praised, because they fear such a family might undermine the Royal Family’s foundation and overthrow the entire imperial power.

Hence, some noble families, no matter how successful their descendants may be, won’t have everyone enter officialdom to become a thorn in the eye. Even when father and son serve in the same court, someone has to yield at a certain age. It is impossible for both father and son to hold key positions, and a wise Emperor wouldn’t allow it either.

To the twins, their father, Song Zhicheng, is the one willing to be mediocre for the family, and so is their fourth uncle.

Song Zhicheng knows such truths; would he send his son to join the military and put the Song Family in the hot seat?

So if Song Lingzhao wants to join the military, he can only do it secretly.

In Song Lingjie’s view, there’s nothing wrong with his brother wanting to join the military. To speak frankly, even the Emperor will age, as will their uncles. Their younger generation will eventually have to take the helm one day.

But to take over the power and connections passed down by their uncles is not something that can be achieved overnight; it requires a process. He does not believe that in their generation, they can grow wise in just one day.

Yet he also doesn’t believe that their achievements after time would be worse than those of their elders.

Young people all have fighting spirit, and the sons of the Song Family are certainly no cowards. They have been meticulously nurtured by the family and should give back to the family.

The greatest return is to make the family prosperous, which requires long-term planning.

Right now, they are just teenagers. From the perspective of those in power, they are nothing but inexperienced brats, which is not too eye-catching. As long as they are given time, they can grow so that when their elders age, they can smoothly take over.

In this way, wouldn’t the family then have a foundation for continuity?

”Brother, have you really thought about it? Joining the military is not like pursuing a scholarly path; it means going into battle. If you truly want to make a name for yourself, you have to rely on your own efforts, not depend on the family,” said Song Lingjie. ”If you use the Song Family name to join the army from the start, for your safety, your superiors won’t let you be at the forefront. Even if there are merits, they would only be in name.”

There are noble children placed by their families in military camps. Even now, some sons of noble families are training in the camps, but due to their status, the superiors have been bribed and would not let them go to the real battlefield. Who wouldn’t fear the repercussions if they were lost, and the family sought trouble?

Therefore, for some noble sons, the so-called pursuit of achievements is just for show; they don’t participate in the real dangerous battles where people risk their lives.

Only those noble children who truly wish to achieve merit would abandon those bad habits and blend in with the others.

Now, in the military camps, there are factions, the lower-tier faction and the noble sons’ faction. Those noble sons are often criticized and looked down upon by the common soldiers in private.

If Song Lingzhao follows this path, then joining the military will have no real meaning—it would just be for fun.

Listening to his younger brother’s words, Song Lingzhao’s face darkened: ”Do you think I would join just for fun? I am not accomplished in studies, nor in business. I cannot be a wealthy idler like Grandfather, who only knows how to keep birds and grow flowers. I truly want to strive for fame on my own, and more importantly, I truly yearn for the military life.”

The long-absent Song Bai, with a face like a steamed bun: How does my good fortune as a wealthy idler bother these brats?
