Naruto: Zanka No Tachi

Chapter 72: NZNT: Chapter 72

The Hokage Tower announced a major, shocking incident that left everyone in disbelief. The Root organization, due to conflicting political stances, had attacked the Uchiha clan without authorization!

In the incident, most of the Root members, including their leader, Shimura Danzō, were eliminated. Only a few non-combat personnel escaped because they hadn’t participated in the operation.

The Uchiha clan also suffered heavy losses. Nearly 30% of their ninjas were killed in the battle, including clan leader Uchiha Fugaku.

The Third Hokage expressed deep sorrow for the Uchiha clan’s misfortune and, on behalf of the village, offered the highest level of compensation to the families of the deceased.

At the same time, to ensure the safety of the Uchiha clan members, the Uchiha clan would be relocated back to their original area.

Furthermore, while ordering the Anbu to investigate Root headquarters overnight, the Third Hokage discovered numerous past crimes committed by Danzō and Root.

The Third Hokage was furious and announced the complete disbandment of Root. All remaining Root members would be subjected to strict investigation and interrogation. They would only be reassigned to other organizations after being confirmed to be innocent.

This news immediately caused a stir throughout Konoha.

Upon receiving this news, Kakashi was shocked, ”No, I hope Kabuto is alright. Otherwise, Hokage-sama’s treatment will be disrupted!”

Thinking about this, Kakashi immediately rushed to the Uchiha clan’s compound to check on Kabuto’s condition.

At this time, the Uchiha clan’s compound was bustling with activity. There were both Uchiha clan members and villagers who had been assigned to help. Everyone was busy cleaning up the aftermath of the previous night’s battle.

In Fugaku’s mansion, Itachi was comforting his grieving mother and brother. At this time, a servant reported that the clan elder had come to visit. Itachi quickly went to the reception room to greet him.

With Fugaku’s death, Itachi, although young, was now the head of the family. It was only natural for him to personally receive important guests.

In the reception room, a sturdy old man with white hair and beard stood. His name was Uchiha Kenjiro, one of the three current elders of the Uchiha clan.

Seeing Itachi enter the reception room, Uchiha Kenjiro offered words of comfort, ”Fugaku, that child, I watched him grow up. I never imagined that he would be assassinated by that scoundrel, Danzō, and die like this. You must be strong.”

He sighed and continued, ”It’s a pity that Fugaku didn’t listen to my advice and take the initiative. This wouldn’t have happened!”

Clearly, Uchiha Kenjiro was also a member of the radical faction within the clan. He had a very tense relationship with Fugaku when he was alive.

After speaking, Uchiha Kenjiro looked at Itachi but noticed that his expression hadn’t changed. He couldn’t tell whether he agreed or disagreed with his words.

”Elder Kenjiro, please speak your mind,” Itachi said.

Uchiha Kenjiro said slowly, ”Fugaku has passed away. The clan can’t be without a clan leader. I want to nominate you to succeed your father and become the new clan leader of the Uchiha clan!”

Hearing Uchiha Kenjiro’s words, Itachi was surprised, ”You’re not joking, are you? My age and experience are not enough to become clan leader. I can’t possibly command the respect of everyone.”

Uchiha Kenjiro smiled kindly and patted Itachi’s shoulder, ”Don’t worry. Fugaku was your father. It’s only natural for the son to inherit the father’s position.”

”Besides, I can help you with some of the affairs. With my assistance, you will surely be able to secure the position of clan leader!”

Hearing Uchiha Kenjiro’s words, Itachi understood what he meant.

This was clearly an attempt to make him a puppet leader, while the elder would seize control of the clan’s actual power.

It had only been two days since the clan was attacked by Root. Itachi hadn’t had time to announce Fugaku’s appointment of Yusuke as the new clan leader.

Because of this, several influential elders in the clan had already begun to find ways to reshuffle the clan’s power structure, taking advantage of this opportunity to establish themselves or support their own confidants as the new clan leader.

Seeing Itachi’s silence, Uchiha Kenjiro thought he had some reservations and continued, ”Don’t worry too much. Don’t forget that you have your teacher, Yusuke, behind you. With my support and everything else taken care of, I’m sure no one in the clan will dare to object!”

It must be said that Uchiha Kenjiro was more cunning than the other two clan elders. By using Itachi’s identity and Yusuke’s prestige, if he played his cards right, he could easily support Itachi’s ascension to the position of clan leader, while he himself would be the clan’s actual leader behind the scenes.

In Uchiha Kenjiro’s eyes, Itachi was just a ten-year-old boy with no opinions of his own.

And Yusuke rarely concerned himself with clan affairs. So, once Itachi became clan leader, the clan’s power would naturally fall into the hands of him, the elder who was assisting Itachi.

However, although Uchiha Kenjiro’s plan was well-thought-out, he didn’t know that Yusuke had already decided to become the new clan leader of the Uchiha clan. His wish was destined to be shattered.

After thinking for a moment, Itachi decided not to directly reveal Fugaku’s appointment of Yusuke as the new clan leader to prevent the elders who were vying for power from reacting prematurely.

He would wait until the clan meeting tonight and then surprise everyone by bringing it up, working with his teacher to take over the position of clan leader!

With his plan in mind, Itachi pretended to agree to Uchiha Kenjiro’s proposal. He nodded and said, ”I presume Elder Kenjiro is planning to bring this up at tonight’s clan meeting. Then, I’ll leave the arrangements to you.”

Uchiha Kenjiro was overjoyed, ”Don’t worry. Leave everything to me at tonight’s clan meeting!”

At the Uchiha clan’s compound, Kabuto was resting in his room.

Although he had recovered almost completely thanks to his powerful self-healing abilities and Yusuke’s ”Mark of Life” after being hit by Obito’s ”Sharp Spike Technique,” Izumi, who was overly worried, insisted that he stay at home and not go out until he was fully recovered.

Kabuto had argued against it, but he couldn’t convince Izumi. He had to stay at home.

After this incident, Kabuto deeply realized his lack of strength. If his teacher, Yusuke, hadn’t arrived in time, Izumi, Uchiha Izumi, and everyone else he cared about would have been in danger.

”It’s time to learn the ’Sage Art’ that Teacher mentioned!” Kabuto thought to himself.

Yusuke had once mentioned ”Sage Art” to him. It was a very powerful ability that could be learned from the slug sage of Shikkotsu Forest.

But because learning Sage Art had significant risks, Kabuto hadn’t made up his mind.

But this incident had made Kabuto experience the despair of being powerless. He decided to take the risk and try to learn Sage Art.

”Knock, knock, knock.”

As Kabuto was thinking, a gentle knock came from the door.
