Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

The chrysanthemum icon on the tactical computer kept spinning endlessly, a vortex-like pattern seemingly mocking the Walter squad’s ignorance and recklessness.

In modern warfare, communication is absolutely crucial, especially for an elite squad responsible for reconnaissance infiltration—without communication, there is no support and no way to send back intelligence. Even dying here would be a pointless death.

A death without any value...

Although the elite squad was ready to sacrifice for Earth, dying after completing a mission and dying without any gains at all are two completely different concepts.

”It’s over, completely damn over.”

Sequence Number 89, appearing unwilling to give up, was fiddling with the tactical computer in hand, but breaking the information blockade of the Demon Tribe was undoubtedly wishful thinking for someone of Sequence Number 89’s level.

”Boom!”

An explosion sounded not far away, and Sequence Number 89, lying on the grass, suddenly experienced ringing ears and blurred vision. Dust showered down from the sky, and Sequence Number 89 spat out several times before clearing the sand from his mouth.

Looking up, he saw his captain emerging from the smoke in the distance, surrounded by a thin mist, droplets shooting out from the mist. These seemingly inconspicuous droplets always exerted power comparable to a miniature nuclear bomb upon hitting an enemy.

It didn’t take long to find a hiding place after escaping. Upon arrival, Walter immediately organized his team to build a defense line, and with his terrifying group killing ability, he plowed through this small hillside both horizontally and vertically, finally securing a temporarily safe stronghold for the entire squad.

However, everyone knew that the safety was only temporary...

Just the sight of the continuously squirming trees and ground in the distance made Sequence Number 89 feel a chill of fear.

The sheer number, although not high in quality, could still break through defenses. Like ants that could bite an elephant to death, it wasn’t a joke, especially since these ”things” attacked silently, with no signs of life. Just one hidden assassin was troublesome enough, and what Walter squad was facing was far from simple.

”Assemble!”

Walter’s spiritual fluctuation spread far, and shortly after, two figures sprang out almost simultaneously from the left and right.

”Boss, the single-man nuclear bombs are deployed, but it won’t hold those things back for long.”

The instant Sequence Number 35 on the right finished speaking, a thunderous explosion erupted—apparently, the hastily laid booby-trap couldn’t hold the enemy for long.

”Captain, three of those powerful Earth Puppets have appeared among the enemy on the left; we can’t hold this place much longer.”

The situation on the left, handled by Sequence Number 56, wasn’t great either.

”Captain, contact with headquarters is still cut off.”

Sequence Number 89, responsible for communication, became the last straw that broke the camel’s back.

Walter’s face turned grim to the extreme: ”Below are nothing but these things; we’ve been surrounded by them. Only the top is clear, but...”

Surrounding on three sides leaves one open, a tactic as simple as it is perilous—no enemy doesn’t mean safety; it instead implies a bigger trap. Yet, for Walter and others, the current situation seemed to offer no alternative.

Thoughts raced in his mind, and after a while, Walter gritted his teeth fiercely: ”The enemy wants us to go uphill; the mountain is the preset location for the Origin Extraction Device, the target of this mission. They want us to rush straight into the Dimensional Maze.”

Upon hearing this, the other three fell silent until Walter took a deep breath.

”Let’s go, let’s see what’s waiting for us up there!”

...

Gathering the three squads didn’t take Cyclops’ trio long. Once Cyclops got Qin Tian’s squad, Luo Luo got Hao Yun’s squad, and Star brought the Bomber Man’s squad together, not even ten minutes had passed.

For Cyclops, Qin Tian and Hao Yun were all old acquaintances, but he wasn’t familiar with the four called the ”Bomber Man’s squad.”

The so-called ”Bomber Man” was the nickname of the squad’s leader. Including the leader, all four members were white, tall, and robust, except for the one called Bomber Man, who stood less than 1.7 meters tall and might weigh 100 pounds soaking wet, practically half-disabled for an adult white male.

The ”Bomber Man” had a decent temperament; upon meeting Cyclops, he warmly introduced himself.

”My name is Bock, a Sequence-class expert of the Yanjing military. My ability is to play with bombs.”

After a brief exchange, Cyclops surveyed the three military elite squads around, a total of twelve members, and immediately stated the mission for this action.

”My mission is to gather you all and then lead you into the mountains. Walter squad is slightly ahead of you, but they are now out of contact. I am not clear about the situation up there, so be cautious.”

”Our mission is twofold: first, to find the missing Walter squad, and second, to enter the Dimensional Maze. As the vanguard of this assault, I trust you have all evaluated the dangers of this mission, so I won’t explain further. I just need to remind you of one thing.”

”If you want to survive, don’t be afraid to die. Follow me closely; I will help you as much as I can. Now, move out.”

Cyclops, succinct and direct, was the first to plunge into the lush mountains, followed closely by Star and Luo Luo. The remaining twelve members exchanged looks, seemingly unable to believe they were being led by a dog...
