Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Mount Kosciuszko, once infinitely glorious, now full of peril and obstacles.

As the focus of this conflict, the strongest forces and war tools from both sides are gathered here. Though it’s still early, and the Origin Extraction Device has yet to arrive, initial small-scale engagements have already occurred.

For the military, the situation inside Mount Kosciuszko is completely unknown—the Sky Eye System can’t scan it, and the elite reconnaissance squads sent out earlier have all disappeared. Faced with the final critical moment, the military is forced to take a huge risk, dispatching their most elite warriors to carry out this nearly suicidal preliminary exploration mission.

Being elite naturally means they are Sequence-class powerful experts of the military—they have access to the best resources, live in the finest mansions, their descendants enjoy the best education, hence they are rightfully tasked with the most dangerous and difficult missions.

And Walter, being Sequence Number 3, is now the strongest warrior the military can deploy, and has reasonably become a participant in this operation.

...

Walter was initially not far behind Qin Tian; during the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle, they were separated by just one move in determining victory. However, times have changed, and now Qin Tian and Walter are truly on completely different levels.

As a top-tier super-power nurtured by the military, Walter’s speed of progress is beyond words, with unlimited resource supplies from the military, and even the precious Limit Breakthrough Level abilities, Walter was the first to learn and master them. Conversely, after being schemed against by Lin Haifeng, Qin Tian lost his fighting spirit, retreating to an isolated island praying for peace and happiness every day.

”Captain, the command center sent news that Qin Tian’s squad is entangled with Limit Breakthrough Level Demon Fiends at the mountain’s base and cannot reach the target location shortly.”

As expected...

At this moment, Walter was concealed behind a towering tree, his once tender face now replaced by cold resolve. Hearing the report from Sequence Number 89 behind him, he merely nodded lightly, expressionless.

One side has long been through the battlefield and seasoned, while the other was corroded by peace, forced to return due to Tang Haofei’s strong pressure, but still half-hearted in task completion—the gap was so large that Walter subconsciously overlooked this former rival.

”How many elite squads have reached Mount Kosciuszko now?”

”Only ours.”

Sequence Number 89 was a slightly chubby white man with glasses, who at the moment adjusted his glasses, looking at the tactical computer’s incoming intelligence, and couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

”These people simply can’t compare to the captain, so far, counting Qin Tian’s squad intercepted, besides us only 3 teams have reached Mount Kosciuszko’s base, one is Bomber Man’s, hmm, old friends, and another is Hao Yun’s, huh? These young punks are sneaky alright.”

Hao Yun, once a military super-power, yet with the Yanjing Assembly Site’s forces rapidly expanding, the former military-bred super-powers were squeezed out by foreign powerful experts, until now, except for Xiao Xue, the nine former military super-powers are either dead or eliminated, barely scraping together a not very remarkable 4-person elite team—still viewed with disdain by true powerful experts.

Walter had a cold demeanor, unwilling to comment on these matters, only quietly nodding before pricking up his ear, listening for the slightest sound. After confirming no danger around, he gently waved his hand to signal the three team members behind him to continue forward.

...

Without human destruction, coupled with the demonic qi’s catalytic stimulation, in just over a year, Mount Kosciuszko’s trees have grown so dense as to blot out the sky.

Walking under the mottled shadows of the trees, surrounded by a faint mist, Walter’s squad cautiously advanced into the mountains.

Sequence Number 35, responsible for assassination, walked along the edges of the team like a grim reaper in shadows, clearing any detail that might expose their position. Sequence Number 89, tasked with reconnaissance and communications with headquarters, moved at the team’s end, carefully perceiving surrounding dynamics.

As purely combat personnel, Walter and Sequence Number 56 walked at the front and middle, cautiously prepared for any potential skirmish at any moment.

However, nothing happened.

Walter’s group felt as though they were walking in a desolate ghostly domain, not sensing any mutant creature or even a whiff of a Demon Fiend’s life energy.

”No danger? How could there be no danger?”

Sequence Number 89’s Spiritual Fluctuation transmitted to the minds of other team members, with tone filled with surprise and concern.

No danger, this isn’t good news. At this stage, no one is foolish enough to think the enemy’s stronghold is a place you can come and go freely—indeed, every Sequence-class powerful expert of the Elite Squad had already received information about the upcoming presence of the Origin Extraction Device, and was long prepared to sacrifice themselves to resist the demon plague.

Yet, an impending beheading is not frightening; waiting endlessly before being executed is terrifying... Facing such bizarre circumstances, even Sequence-class powerful experts can’t help but feel apprehensive.

”Stay alert, enough nonsense.”

Walter also sensed the unusual situation. Compared to his three teammates, Walter, being a Breakthrough Achiever, had stronger capabilities and perception ability. As the group reached mid-mountain from the base, not only did he sense danger, but he also discerned the source of danger...

Underfoot...

From the sky...

From all directions...

Danger lurked everywhere!

Surrounded by the constantly expanding malice and sense of crisis, Walter’s perceptions were constantly numbed, and thus when the sharp wind sounded, Walter didn’t immediately sense the source of danger.

”Watch out!”

Walter’s brief warning saved Sequence Number 89’s life—or, without Walter’s reminder, the sudden attack wouldn’t have cost Sequence Number 89 his life.

Behind the squad, a vine suddenly shot up, arrow-like, aiming at the back of Sequence Number 89 in the rear of the team. Even a Sequence-class powerful expert couldn’t react to the sudden onslaught, looking at the vine sticking into their back, then perceiving a slight pain...

The attacking vine, however, turned into wood chips under a massive impact.

”No poison...”

The body’s feedback confirmed the vine had no toxicity, and due to the protective suit, the vine’s force could barely pierce the gear, merely grazing Sequence Number 89’s skin.

”Weakling...”

Sequence Number 89 checked the injuries on his body, then lifted his head, but before he could react, a sudden sound explosion rang by his ear, his body felt a sudden weightlessness, seeing Walter sprint to his side, scooping his body up before frantically running toward the summit.

Under Walter’s arm, Sequence Number 89 braced against the wind pressure, barely opening his eyes to look at the scene behind him.

Numerous vines danced wildly behind the squad, snaking around as if ready to strike, while the towering ancient trees convulsed up from the soil, their leaves clashing like metal. Occasional gusts of wind roared through, even the ground underneath undulated like waves.

In just an instant, the entire mountain range came to life!
