Wilderness Survival with Druid System

To be honest, playing the part of an obstetrician in the wilderness is quite a rare experience.

Chen Wen and Duoji stood at the entrance of the cave, pondering how to help the Snow Leopard.

Duoji suggested getting closer to have a detailed look at the Snow Leopard’s condition.

Chen Wen nodded slightly, soothing the Snow Leopard quietly while leading Duoji into the cave.

Under his full efforts at calming it, the Snow Leopard didn’t resist much.

Or rather, the Snow Leopard was already too exhausted to put up a fight.

Duoji knelt beside the Snow Leopard, carefully examining its body.

After a moment, he said with a heavy expression: ”Everything is quite similar to what my father predicted. This Snow Leopard has a fracture, which has also harmed its pelvis, leading to a narrowed pelvis, and eventually causing dystocia!”

Chen Wen wasn’t entirely sure about the specifics, but he still asked, ”Is there a solution?”

Duoji took a deep breath and said, ”If my father were here, he’d definitely have a solution, or if people from the reserve came, they could perform a caesarean section, but now it’s just the two of us, and we’re lacking conditions.”

”The only method I can think of now is manually assisting the Snow Leopard by pulling the cub out!”

Upon hearing Duoji’s words, Chen Wen’s expression turned extremely uncomfortable.

The method Duoji proposed sounded intensely dangerous just by listening!

Pull it out!

How to pull?

What if pulling the little Snow Leopard kills it?

But if they don’t pull, the Snow Leopard might also be in life-threatening danger!

Chen Wen’s mind was racing with thoughts, and beads of sweat began to form on his forehead.

Duoji was similarly anxious, sweating nervously, with his hands slightly trembling.

Though he knew the treatment, he lacked the ability to execute it.

”If it really comes to pulling, you’re probably going to have to do it yourself. My hands are too shaky...”

Duoji said, showing tension and unease: ”While my father was still alive, I tried helping a yak give birth, and... since then, whenever a similar situation arises, I dare not proceed.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen’s expression shifted once more.

The expert was unwilling to act; that meant leaving the task to an inexperienced person like him!

Chen Wen steadied himself, regaining his usual composure.

He asked, ”What should I do?”

”Put on gloves, follow the birth canal, use two fingers to try to locate the little Snow Leopard, and gently pull it out.”

Duoji said nervously, ”I think you’d better use a rope to secure the Snow Leopard, otherwise if it struggles, it might hurt you, and more importantly, hurt itself!”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen nodded.

He found a rope and explained the situation to the Snow Leopard while binding its body to immobilize it.

The Snow Leopard remained unresponsive; it was currently in an extremely fatigued state.

Its body was hardly capable of movement.

However, it looked at Chen Wen with trusting eyes, letting him proceed.

Facing the Snow Leopard’s trust, Chen Wen naturally wouldn’t let it down.

After securing the Snow Leopard, he immediately put on the gloves Duoji had prepared for him.

”The Snow Leopard’s birth canal is here, and it’s already somewhat dilated. Try to insert your fingers in to see if you can reach the little Snow Leopard. I feel it’s stuck over here.”

Duoji gently touched the Snow Leopard’s abdomen, reminding Chen Wen: ”Now time is of the essence, the longer we delay, the more dangerous it becomes for the little Snow Leopard!”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen hesitated no longer.

He reached out his hand, initiating the first attempt.

Chen Wen tried to keep his hands steady and gently started locating the little Snow Leopard.

Soon, he felt his fingertips touch something soft yet somewhat resilient.

Chen Wen paused.

This should be the little Snow Leopard!

He hesitated for a moment and used his fingers to gently grip the little Snow Leopard, slowly pulling it out.

But soon, Chen Wen stopped.

As Chen Wen applied gentle force, the Snow Leopard immediately let out painful cries.

And the little Snow Leopard inside seemed to sense the pain, starting to struggle slightly.

Sensing something was amiss, Chen Wen halted his actions immediately.

With a very concerned expression, he withdrew his hand and said, ”It’s not working, can’t pull!”

Upon hearing this, Duoji was taken aback: ”Can’t pull at all?”

”Yes, not at all.”

Chen Wen said, ”Even applying gentle force causes discomfort and abnormal movement for the Snow Leopard, as you just saw.”

Duoji scratched his head once more, looking worried.

What to do?

With each passing minute, the little Snow Leopard’s life was also ticking away.

They couldn’t delay any longer!

Chen Wen’s brain was racing, and soon, he seemed to have thought of something.

”Do we have any oil?”

Chen Wen suddenly asked.

Oil?

Seeing that Duoji didn’t understand his intention, Chen Wen quickly explained: ”Oil, fat, whether it’s animal oil or vegetable oil, can you bring some? I’ll try lubricating the little Snow Leopard’s head to see if I can forcibly pull it out!”

Upon hearing this, Duoji slapped his thigh: ”Worth a try! But the oil we have seems to be butter, this stuff...”

While Duoji considered whether butter was usable, Zhaxi Duntu shouted from outside: ”There’s other oil! I remember my father once bought some olive oil, which I’ve always carried with me over the years!”

”Can it be used? If so, I’ll go fetch it now!”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen exclaimed excitedly: ”Yes! Of course, it can be used!”

Olive oil was one of the few oils that could substitute as a lubricant, and it’s not very harmful to humans.

Used on the Snow Leopard, Chen Wen felt it wouldn’t be a problem.

Once Chen Wen confirmed this, Zhaxi Duntu mounted a horse and quickly retrieved the olive oil.

Chen Wen took the pouch filled with olive oil, poured some out, and through scent and consistency, confirmed it was indeed olive oil.

He poured the olive oil onto his hand and lubricated the little Snow Leopard.

As the olive oil spread along the Snow Leopard’s body, Chen Wen attempted to pull the little Snow Leopard again.

This time it moved!

And judging from the reactions of both the Snow Leopard and the little Snow Leopard, the harm wasn’t significant!

Chen Wen’s eyes lit up: ”It’s promising!”

He first used the blessing of the [Animal Doctor] on the little Snow Leopard, then slowly pulled it out.

Soon, a little Snow Leopard appeared in the air.

Calling it a Snow Leopard, it actually looked more like a mouse to Chen Wen.

It was no bigger than his palm, weighing probably less than 500 grams, with its eyes tightly shut.

It didn’t have the Snow Leopard’s long and thick fur, only a thin and short coat, tightly stuck to its body with mucus and olive oil.

It looked just like a little mouse.

”Place it beside the Snow Leopard, and leave it be.”

Duoji stood aside, suppressing his excitement, reminding Chen Wen.

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen hurriedly took the little Snow Leopard from his hand and placed it next to the now alert Snow Leopard.

The Snow Leopard gazed at its cub, its eyes reflecting maternal radiance.

Though it was already utterly exhausted, it still mustered the strength to constantly lick the little Snow Leopard’s body, cleaning off the substances on it.

Meanwhile, this action stimulated the little Snow Leopard’s excretory and respiratory systems, helping them return to normal.

With the Snow Leopard’s licking, it wasn’t long before the little Snow Leopard let out faint cries, sounding like a kitten, though very soft.

Yet, these sounds signified the arrival of a new life into this world!
