Wilderness Survival with Druid System

About Tibetan Mastiffs, or rather, dogs from the Tibetan Area.

Many hikers and survivors have a bunch of human-dog stories.

Tibetan Mastiffs are quite rampant in Qiangtang.

Chen Wen had seen a point mentioned in association materials regarding the rampant situation.

Years ago, a wave of promoting Tibetan Mastiff’s fighting power suddenly rose on the Chinese internet.

Things like one mastiff battling three tigers, three mastiffs sinking an aircraft carrier, five mastiffs fighting God, ten mastiffs creating Genesis, etc...

It was this wave of promotion, along with the operations by some businessmen.

That made Tibetan Mastiffs completely popular.

Association materials mentioned that at its peak, a single Tibetan Mastiff could even sell for tens of millions at a sky-high price!

But the Tibetan Mastiff economy is actually a bubble economy.

Tibetan Mastiffs do have fighting power, but it’s limited among dogs.

Once facing a mature wolf individually without any protection, a mature Tibetan Mastiff is almost doomed.

Even with protection, or in a group, the wolf can retreat calmly.

Thus, when Tibetan Mastiffs were hyped up.

Many who bought Mastiffs realized that they weren’t as fierce as described online.

On one hand, Mastiffs are large and eat a lot, needing at least one chicken a day and a dedicated caretaker, and the pet isn’t really loyal.

The dog owner serves the Mastiff attentively, yet there’s still a risk of getting attacked by it.

It’s akin to spending thousands, even tens of thousands, to buy a ticking time bomb to care for at home.

On the other hand, Mastiffs easily develop various illnesses when transitioning from highlands to inland.

And they are often kept in cages, looking sickly, not at all awe-inspiring, and all the medical treatments are troublesome.

Therefore, gradually no one wanted to buy Tibetan Mastiffs anymore.

This creature then became valued but out of market, neglected.

But the problem arose here.

When Tibetan Mastiffs were popular, market demand soared; as the origin, Tibetan Area herdsmen would naturally seize this opportunity.

They cultivated Tibetan Mastiffs massively, selecting excellent breeds, even building Mastiff breeding bases.

As the market trend subsided, Mastiffs became neglected.

These bases either closed down or were transferred.

Tibetan Mastiffs in the bases, and those bred by herdsmen, had only two outcomes—slaughtered for fur and meat, or abandoned on the streets.

Due to the predominantly Buddhist Tibetan locals at the pastoral area, most Mastiffs roamed the streets.

But as they wandered, mated, reproduced.

Gradually, approximately a few years ago.

Hikers suddenly discovered an increase in stray Tibetan dogs in this area!

These stray Tibetan dogs had violent temperaments, large sizes, and strong offensiveness.

They posed significant trouble for hikers!

In some places, incidents of stray mastiffs attacking elderly and young people even occurred.

Only then did people realize just how dangerous stray Tibetan dogs were!

These creatures attack humans, not to mention they’re carriers of rabies, echinococcosis, and other parasites and bacteria!

The most important thing is they also attack rare wildlife, snatching food from predators like Snow Leopards whose fighting power isn’t strong in direct confrontations.

They also have a very detrimental impact on the ecosystem!

Even though the government and some departments have conducted special actions dedicated to handling stray Mastiffs over the years.

But the effects aren’t significant.

In the Qiangtang Plateau, the association had statistics.

On this land, there are at least fifty thousand stray Tibetan dogs roaming!

Therefore, before Chen Wen came, he was mentally prepared to encounter Tibetan Mastiffs.

But he didn’t expect before encountering Mastiffs, the Snow Leopard he tamed was first attacked by a Mastiff.

...

Thinking about the Mastiff issue, Chen Wen soon arrived at the Snow Leopard’s location.

Not yet approaching, he saw the Mastiff closing in on the Snow Leopard.

With two pikas in its mouth, the Snow Leopard looked fierce.

But Chen Wen could tell this guy was anxious inside.

It seemed the Mastiff had smelled blood and planned to come over and steal food.

This is not uncommon on the plateau, in terms of food being snatched, Snow Leopards and Cheetahs have much in common.

They both rely on agility for hunting, but due to size differences, they have to sometimes abandon food when faced with pressure from other carnivores.

However, this time the Snow Leopard has two pikas, allowing it to rather easily shake off the Mastiff’s pursuit.

The question is why it didn’t choose to escape.

Perhaps it didn’t want to give up the pikas?

As Chen Wen approached, the Snow Leopard also noticed him.

The Snow Leopard got somewhat excited, but just as it was about to move toward Chen Wen, Chen Wen made a back-off gesture.

The Snow Leopard froze for a moment but still retreated slightly according to Chen Wen’s gesture.

At this moment, sensing the Mastiff entered the attack zone, Chen Wen suddenly acted, his long spear darting out straight towards the front of the Mastiff.

The Mastiff hadn’t realized what happened yet—these big guys are often clumsy.

It saw the Snow Leopard retreating and thought the Snow Leopard was intimidated.

Thus, not relenting, the Mastiff advanced, attempting to force the Snow Leopard to give up the food in its mouth.

But at that moment, the long spear whistled in.

The Mastiff looked to the side in shock, but before it could clearly see what had made the sound.

Whoosh!

The long spear pierced through, and the Mastiff’s massive body collapsed like it had been deprived of bones.

Chen Wen glanced at the spot where the spear pierced through and nodded slightly.

A heart-piercing hit!

This time Chen Wen’s hand felt very good, completing a perfect attack.

The Mastiff didn’t even see what hit it before it painlessly left this world.

Chen Wen walked to the Mastiff, first looking at the Snow Leopard, seeing it was neither injured nor frightened, then he turned his gaze to the Mastiff.

This Mastiff was a mature individual and rather robust.

Its fur was incredibly fluffy, making it look even larger than it actually was.

But large as it was, after all, a Mastiff is not a beast like a wolf; its fighting power and perception ability are somewhat lower than that of beasts.

The main thing is Mastiffs are not protected, hunting them is not prohibited, instead, it’s encouraged within protected areas.

Chen Wen pulled the long spear out, cleaning it on the Mastiff’s body, then calmly said: ”Alright, not being injured is a good thing. Wait for the Golden Eagle to go back once and bring over the two pikas from the camp; I’ll process them.”

”Snow Leopard, follow me, let’s take this big guy to the lakeside and process it.”

Judging by its appearance, this Mastiff didn’t seem like one with rabies.

Therefore, Chen Wen planned to store this Mastiff as his food reserve.

He was quite interested in the entry regarding this creature.

After dragging the Mastiff to the lakeside, Chen Wen looked at the Mastiff’s fur, planning to peel it off completely and use it as a sleeping mat or pillow.

Or process it into a water pouch.

In short, lacking tools, Chen Wen decided to utilize all available resources.

Taking a knife, he peeled the Mastiff’s skin intact along its body.

Chen Wen directly placed the Mastiff skin into the cold lake water, cleaning it thoroughly.

Simultaneously, he dissected the Mastiff’s body, removed its internal organs, and twisted off its head.

When dealing with animals that might carry viruses, Chen Wen doesn’t consume their organs and brains, to maximize avoiding bacterial infections.

Besides this, Chen Wen washed the Mastiff’s meat several times before stopping his action.

Back at camp, cutting into pieces and stewing overnight; the taste is sure not to be bad!

Looking at the Mastiff meat, Chen Wen thought.

Meanwhile, he also skinned the four hunted pikas, removing their organs.

This guy, taken back, not only is a treat for the animals but can also add an entry for Chen Wen.
