The yak’s head is very large.

To preserve the yak’s bones intact, Chen Wen opted to remove the lower jaw from below and then dig out the brain from underneath.

This task can be said to be quite time-consuming and labor-intensive.

Chen Wen held a dagger and a rock, continuously dismantling the yak’s bones, spending over ten minutes to finally take off the lower jaw.

At the same time, Chen Wen also saw the yak’s tongue.

”It looks quite similar to a regular cow’s tongue, but upon closer inspection, there’s a layer of meat-like teeth, quite hard. Using this as a comb... wouldn’t it rip the hair out?”

Chen Wen muttered, cutting off the tongue and placing it aside.

Then, he slowly cut the skin and flesh off the yak’s head with the dagger, carefully removing the membranes as well.

After removing most of the flesh, the yak’s skull was exposed to the air.

From underneath, Chen Wen began striking the yak’s skull with a rock.

With deliberate and slow strikes, cracks gradually appeared on the bone beneath the yak’s skull.

”This guy’s head is really hard. I’ve used so much effort, yet there are only cracks. As a helmet, it would definitely hold up!”

Feeling the cracks, Chen Wen couldn’t help but remark.

Soon, using a rock, Chen Wen managed to open up the lower part of the yak’s skull.

After removing the bone fragments, he excavated the entire brain of the yak.

He spread out the cowhide and evenly applied the brain on the inside.

Looking at his handiwork, Chen Wen couldn’t help but feel satisfied.

In terms of leather tanning, he was becoming more adept at it.

Once the brain was applied, he folded it and placed it in the corner of the cave.

The cowhide was thus processed.

As for the turned head, there’s no rush to handle that.

He took the yak head to a valley outside, placing it in a shady area to air dry.

Once the meat scraps on the yak head have dried up, Chen Wen will proceed with the next steps.

After dealing with these two items, it was time to handle the organs that are most prone to decay.

The heart and lungs of the yak were cut open by Chen Wen, intending to take them to the water for cleaning later.

As for the yak’s rumen, Chen Wen carefully slit it open, dumping its contents into the valley.

This stuff... seems to be called cow cud. I’ve seen lots of bloggers use it to dip beef, tsk tsk, so hardcore!

Chen Wen couldn’t help but comment, then took the rumen, intending to handle it by the lake.

He had a premonition that dealing with this would be very time-consuming!

...

Upon reaching the lakeside.

Chen Wen soaked the rumen in the lake, using the water to knead and clean the inside.

Just this cleaning took Chen Wen almost an hour!

An hour later, Chen Wen looked inside the rumen and felt that there shouldn’t be any filth left.

However, using his nose to sniff it close, he could still smell a similar stench of fermentation and grass.

Very unpleasant!

Chen Wen shook his head and found some dirt and sand from nearby.

He filled the rumen with these materials and continued kneading it by the shore.

The purpose of this step was to remove the odor from the rumen.

The sand’s friction to eliminate odor has some scientific basis.

On one hand, the porous structure of sand can capture odor molecules, achieving a physical adsorption effect.

On the other hand, mechanical friction can scrape off residual organic material inside the rumen.

Moreover, sand is rich in minerals, which can neutralize odors chemically, using these minerals.

However, while the benefits of sand kneading are many, there is also an inevitable downside—vigorous rubbing can damage the rumen’s stomach wall, causing perforation.

Therefore, attention must be paid to the technique during kneading, using gentle movements.

Only by doing this can one ensure no damage to the stomach wall while maximizing odor removal.

During the kneading, Chen Wen glanced at the spot where he discarded the inedible organs previously.

The discarded organs had already been eaten clean.

Yet, the flock of ravens hadn’t left.

On the contrary, whether they were hoping to scavenge more food or had designs on the yak meat Chen Wen took away wasn’t clear.

In any case, they weren’t leaving.

They hovered around the lake and rested on nearby slopes when tired.

Slyly watching Chen Wen’s direction.

Watching the ravens, Chen Wen also had plans in mind.

These creatures fall under the protected category but aren’t restricted from hunting in this survival challenge.

Should I try a few ravens?

Chen Wen pondered and considered attempting to hunt the ravens.

However, relying solely on himself and the long spear to hunt ravens might not be enough; he’d also need the help of the Golden Eagle.

Once these few days are freed up, maybe it’s worth a try!

Chen Wen thought to himself.

The ravens didn’t know that while they were interested in Chen Wen’s prey, they themselves had already become prey in Chen Wen’s eyes!

...

After spending the whole morning, Chen Wen finally managed to clean the stomach.

Back at the camp, after placing Tibetan mastiff meat on the pot, he began to rest.

That morning he had made several trips and was exhausted.

However, it was a happy exhaustion, as Chen Wen looked at the mountain of prey, feeling quite pleased inside.

After having lunch and resting for a while.

Chen Wen took the organs to the lake for cleaning again.

Organs decay quickly, so Chen Wen planned to cook them in the pot this afternoon, along with the Tibetan mastiff meat, as food for the next few days.

As for the remaining yak meat.

Chen Wen planned to cut them into pieces and make jerky for preservation.

To preserve the meat, Chen Wen even opened several packs of military rations to retrieve the salt, preparing to dissolve it and marinate the yak meat simply.

This was to enhance flavor and also to extend the preservation time.

The cleaning of the organs was relatively simple, with Chen Wen just removing the blood clots and cutting off the inedible parts with a dagger.

After dealing with the organs, Chen Wen didn’t linger by the lake for long.

He immediately returned to the camp, cut the organs into pieces, and placed them in the pot.

After adding some more water, Chen Wen simmered these organs along with the leftover Tibetan mastiff meat on the clay stove.

During the time the meat was cooking, Chen Wen also began to trim the yak meat from the bones.

Working through the entire afternoon, Chen Wen managed to trim about eighty percent of the yak meat.

The remaining twenty percent, Chen Wen planned to handle after eating.

Lifting the lid of the pot, the aroma of the meat greatly relieved Chen Wen’s mental stress.

He ate heartily, deliberately picking out the yak organs to eat.

He acquired an entry.

The yak provided Chen Wen with a relatively good entry.

[Good Fighter (Purple): You are better at fighting, more effective in fighting with peers. When fighting on the plateau, it enhances stamina, increases breathing rate, and allows for more oxygen intake]

This entry was quite decent for Chen Wen, usable in this survival’s PvP.

But once off the plateau, it wouldn’t be his choice.

It’s a one-time use.

Chen Wen shook his head without giving it much thought.

The entries he acquired previously were mostly for the current survival scenario and not useful for the future.

In the future, it might be worth revisiting the previous entries, exploring them, and potentially finding some more usable entries.

Chen Wen daydreamed for a while and resumed his busy work.

He planned to remove all the meat from the cow bones before sleep.

This task could be considered quite heavy.

Chen Wen toiled until late at night before he barely managed to remove the meat.

After finishing these tasks, Chen Wen didn’t even have time to speak with the Golden Eagle before he lay down on the ground and fell into a deep sleep.

Throughout the day, Chen Wen had expended a tremendous amount of energy, and he was already exhausted beyond measure.
