Wilderness Survival with Druid System

In the human world, when bored, the Golden Eagle would perch on a tree in the zoo and watch the phone with its keeper.

Through this observation, the Golden Eagle gradually understood many things about the human world.

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen said, ”This is not some barbell, nor am I using this thing for fitness. This is called a Meteor Hammer, it’s a weapon evolved from a hunting tool.”

Weapon?

Hunting tool?

The Golden Eagle really wanted to say to Chen Wen: Don’t tease me! How could this possibly be a weapon?

But looking at Chen Wen’s confident demeanor, the Golden Eagle was a bit unsure.

Chen Wen did not demonstrate the Meteor Hammer for the Golden Eagle.

After trying the weight of the Meteor Hammer, he was satisfied and put it away.

Soon, night fell.

Chen Wen took stock of the things he had on hand—bone shovel for digging traps, Meteor Hammer, long spear, bone spear, bone knife.

These tools seemed enough.

Chen Wen thought for a while, then looked at his sheep horn helmet.

Once the sheep skin is tanned tomorrow and made into a cloak.

By then, with the helmet on his head and the cloak on his back, paired with effects, he could definitely cover his appearance to the greatest extent possible so the yaks wouldn’t notice him.

As for how to intimidate the yaks and make them flee in a short time.

Chen Wen also had an idea.

He planned to take part of the dried cow dung from the valley and ignite it in an emergency.

Smoke and flames are among the few things that can evoke fear in the yaks.

With these things, the success rate of hunting yaks was already seventy or eighty percent in Chen Wen’s view.

The remaining twenty or thirty percent would depend on Chen Wen’s adaptability and luck.

...

The next day.

After getting up, Chen Wen looked at the Snow Leopard.

The Snow Leopard’s condition was a bit better, but it still lazily stayed in the cave, not wanting to move.

It seemed that the time for giving birth was truly near.

Chen Wen didn’t disturb it, just regularly fed the Snow Leopard some food.

The Golden Eagle also did its part by hunting outside, bringing some pikas for the Snow Leopard.

The actions of one person and one eagle greatly moved the Snow Leopard.

It couldn’t help but contemplate its moment of inspiration back then.

If not for that moment, it would most likely have missed the help from the Golden Eagle and Chen Wen.

After settling the Snow Leopard’s situation, Chen Wen and the Golden Eagle went up the hill together to start observing the activity patterns of the yak herd.

Looking at the herd of fourteen yaks in the distance, Chen Wen asked the Golden Eagle, ”You watched them for quite some time yesterday, did you notice their activity patterns?”

The Golden Eagle slightly moved its head and said, ”Yes, early on, they come down from the hill to drink water at the lake here. But by the time we arrive, they are almost ready to go back, and then they spend the whole day on the hill, either sleeping or standing there in a daze.”

”That’s not being dazed, that’s ruminating.”

Chen Wen explained briefly, and roughly understood.

These creatures have lifestyles similar to musk oxen, foraging and drinking water during the night and twilight, resting during the day.

Though musk oxen feed during the day in winter.

”Then our attack should ideally be planned for when they have just filled their bellies.”

Chen Wen said, already pondering when to hunt.

Hearing this, the Golden Eagle nodded, seemingly understanding.

It said, ”Shall I help you then?”

”No need.”

Chen Wen shook his head, ”These creatures have thick skin and you would struggle to pierce them, better not. Also, if you have time, catch more pikas and store them.”

Upon hearing this, the Golden Eagle nodded repeatedly.

It might not help with hunting wild yaks, but hunting pikas is its forte!

...

After waiting on the hill for a while, until the yak herd finished drinking and slowly left.

Chen Wen then came near the water source.

He looked around where the yak herd drank, and the trampling marks were very obvious.

It seemed their drinking spot was fixed.

Chen Wen took out the bone shovel, and made several marks on the ground slightly towards his side of the yak herd’s drinking spot.

The significance of these marks was simple, they indicated where Chen Wen would set his ambush.

It’s too early to dig now, as it might be accidentally trampled by other animals.

After making the marks, he planned to come back near dusk today to dig.

After finishing the markings, Chen Wen came to the water’s edge to fetch water, then began hunting pikas under the Golden Eagle’s lead.

The pikas in this area were indeed very unlucky.

The Golden Eagle had already bothered them greatly, causing significant losses, and Chen Wen’s inclusion accelerated their demise.

If Chen Wen hadn’t considered that killing all the pikas might affect the local ecology.

This area’s pikas would probably be wiped out completely.

After hunting all morning, Chen Wen managed to kill twelve pikas.

The pikas were skewered with a long spear, taken back to camp as reserves for the Golden Eagle and Snow Leopard.

...

At noon, after a short rest.

Chen Wen brought two pieces of leather to the lakeside.

The lakeside at noon was especially quiet, no animals were around.

Taking advantage of this time, Chen Wen spread out the sheep skin, soaked it in water, and washed away the stains.

Meanwhile, he used a knife to scrape off the remaining fat and scraps from the sheep skin.

A clean piece of leather was processed out.

Then, by beating and rubbing the leather, after a series of processes, the leather was almost complete.

Afterward, he planned to stretch the sheep skin with rope or stones, dry it in the shade.

The leather would then be usable.

The process for Tibetan Mastiff skin was the same as for sheep skin.

Chen Wen spent several hours and finally finished processing two pieces of leather.

He had the Golden Eagle take the leather back to camp.

With time still left, Chen Wen started digging the trap for ambushing wild yaks.

Of course, ambushing wild yaks couldn’t be done with the shallow traps Chen Wen dug as a child; this time he planned to dig around thirty-five centimeters deep.

This height was very suitable.

Given the length of a wild yak’s legs, this height is just enough to snag them near the knees.

Once the trapped wild yak’s body becomes unbalanced, although it won’t directly fracture them, there’s a high chance of joint injury.

This gave Chen Wen an opportunity to attack the wild yak and inflict greater injury.

Since it was already May, the weather was warming up.

The ground in Qiangtang was relatively easy to dig.

Moreover, this area was near the lake, making it relatively moist, convenient for digging.

After digging for over ten minutes, Chen Wen successfully made the first trap.

After the trap was dug, Chen Wen took out his secret weapon—a pile of slender bones.

These bones were the rib bones from sheep and Tibetan Mastiffs, those slender ones.

They were perfect for acting as support.

Using ribs as support, with grass roots and such on top as secondary support.

Finally, cover it with some sand and soil.

Trap completed!

Chen Wen roughly looked it over, even to his human eyes, it seemed quite normal.

”Perfect!”

Chen Wen exclaimed, and began digging the second trap.

The bones he had were only sufficient for three traps.

So for the last of the daylight hours today, he’d be quite busy.

Once the traps were set, it was already getting dark.

Chen Wen came to the lakeside to wash his hands and hurried back to the shelter.

After returning to the shelter, Chen Wen didn’t rest.

He placed a large pot on the clay stove and began processing the two pieces of leather.

After stretching and flattening the leather.

Chen Wen then finally had some precious resting time.

He sighed and sat at the cave entrance, today had passed quite productively.

The workload was immense.

Doing a day’s worth of work on the plateau truly tired Chen Wen out.

But Chen Wen didn’t intend to rest.

After a short break, he devoured Tibetan Mastiff meat.

While eating the Tibetan Mastiff meat, Chen Wen looked at the Tibetan Mastiff effects obtained yesterday.

Tomorrow he could try out this effect to see the results.

Chen Wen thought.
