Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 492: Chapter 41: [Howl] Repelling the Enemy

Inside the cave.

Seeing the animals return, Liu Ting instinctively looked outside.

However, she didn’t see Chen Wen’s figure.

This made her a bit worried.

But after waiting a while, as a series of footsteps approached, Liu Ting finally heard a familiar voice.

When she walked out to the cave’s entrance and saw the familiar faces of the Xie Family father and son.

Liu Ting was stunned.

”Have you... already rescued them?”

”Almost.”

Chen Wen tied the Xie Family father and son to a tree in front of the cave, then said, ”I dealt with these two while they were ambushing the Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape, but Xavier and you... Liu Hong, haven’t been caught yet.”

”Did they catch the Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape?”

Liu Ting asked urgently.

”No, I disrupted them.”

Chen Wen said, sighing, ”Although I caught these two, I alarmed the others, making things difficult now.”

”Direct assault is too risky, Xavier has a large-caliber handgun, it’ll be troublesome if he isn’t dealt with.”

”Also, their camp is not easy to attack from the outside, after this incident, they’re likely to take turns keeping watch.”

Listening to Chen Wen, Liu Ting couldn’t help but worry.

Just as she and Chen Wen were both silent, Liu Ting’s gaze swept across the clouded leopard.

The clouded leopard was lying on its side on the ground, constantly stretching its paws.

Seemingly reminded of something, Liu Ting instinctively reached out, wanting to touch the clouded leopard’s paw.

The clouded leopard was puzzled but didn’t resist.

After squeezing the soft ankle of the clouded leopard, Liu Ting suddenly had an idea.

”I have an idea, though a bit wild, if it works, we might be able to tackle them effortlessly!”

Liu Ting’s words piqued Chen Wen’s interest: ”Tell me more.”

Liu Ting organized her thoughts and said, ”Whether this plan works depends on your Beast Taming skills.”

”I just remembered, their camp is under a big tree, and they make food on-site.”

Chen Wen hissed, recalling Liu Ting’s earlier squeezing of the clouded leopard’s ankle.

A flash of insight struck him, he said, ”You mean, have the clouded leopard carry some toxic stuff up the tree and drop it into their pot, poisoning them?”

Liu Ting was taken aback, not expecting Chen Wen to say that.

She thought for a moment and said, ”Something like that, what do you think?”

Chen Wen thought about it and shook his head, ”Hard to say, first, we don’t have anything toxic, second, the clouded leopard might not accurately place the poison in the pot, third, dropping things is too easily noticeable, Xavier is very vigilant.”

But if I transform into a rattlesnake, maybe it could work!

Chen Wen thought to himself.

Liu Ting hadn’t expected Chen Wen to identify so many flaws so quickly.

She shook her head, ”Seems I didn’t think it through enough.”

Chen Wen said, ”Well, we can still try, but where do we find something toxic?”

Liu Ting laughed, ”Look where we are, Yun Province is full of toxic things, wait a moment.”

Liu Ting borrowed Chen Wen’s hunting knife and went outside the cave.

Walking around the damp and shady area, in less than five minutes, Liu Ting came back with a handful of mushrooms.

”Deadly Blue.”

Placing them on the cave floor, Liu Ting said, ”These mushrooms are highly toxic but not likely to be fatal, and even boiled, there’s a risk of poisoning, they’re perfect as poison.”

”They don’t have a peculiar taste when eaten, hard to detect.”

Hearing Liu Ting’s description, Chen Wen picked up the mushrooms in front of him.

Will this work?

Forget it, let’s try.

Putting away the mushrooms, Chen Wen took the clouded leopard out.

Though it wasn’t night yet, going to stake out the poachers’ camp was definitely right.

...

At the poachers’ camp.

Chen Wen hid in the shadows, observing Liu Hong and Xavier’s every move.

Their tension had dissipated considerably by now.

Liu Hong was inventorying the captured animals while Xavier called the three guides over, seemingly discussing something.

Chen Wen wanted to eavesdrop but saw Xavier wave his hand.

As if signaling the guides to leave.

But just as Chen Wen was assessing the situation, Liu Hong and Xavier stood up.

They had the guides lead the way while they hid behind them, walking towards where the little long-armed ape was trapped.

They’re intending to bring the little long-armed ape back.

At this time, they’re still thinking about the money?

Chen Wen quickly guessed their intent and analyzed the consequences of their move.

If they go, my existence will definitely be discovered, given I’ve left many human traces there.

And once they’re aware of someone around, who knows what these ruthless poachers will do, I can’t imagine.

Must stop them!

Chen Wen opened the system, opting not for the Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape entry, but browsing the entry library.

Soon, he found a suitable entry.

[Howl]

This entry from a coyote in the Sonora Desert instills fear in animals hearing the howl.

If transformed into a grizzly bear, and roaring with this entry’s boost.

These people surely wouldn’t dare to approach.

Chen Wen acted decisively.

He moved to intercept them, transforming into a grizzly bear and activating the [Howl] entry on their path.

A deafening bear roar echoed out.

Xavier and the others’ faces changed instantly.

”Bear! It’s a bear! I saw it!”

Liu Hong’s terrified voice sounded: ”It’s a huge bear!”

Xavier’s face also changed.

A deep-seated fear erupted, causing the hand holding the handgun to tremble uncontrollably.

”Don’t, don’t panic!”

At this moment, Yan Bian remarkably kept calm.

He took a breath, and quickly said: ”Let’s walk back slowly, don’t provoke it, it has no intention of coming over, don’t shoot! If this shot doesn’t kill it, we’re the ones who are dead!”

Xavier came to his senses, immediately following Yan Bian’s advice.

He also knew well that at such a distance, the gun’s accuracy would drastically decrease.

They lost the will to advance, instead retreating together.

In bear form, Chen Wen noticed their actions and slowly turned to leave.

Now, they finally relaxed.

Liu Hong swallowed with difficulty, saying, ”Let’s not go retrieve that little monkey, it’s probably already eaten by that bear.”

”Not going.”

Xavier was still covered in cold sweat.

His face was pale: ”The Xie Family pair were likely attacked by this bear too, it’s really big!”

”Right, right, definitely don’t go.”

The three guides immediately concurred.

Chen Wen’s move not only stopped Xavier and his group from fetching the little long-armed ape but also misled them into believing that the bear was what attacked the Xie Family father and son.

Now, the only thing on their mind was to go back, pack up quickly, and leave this godforsaken place tomorrow.
