Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 479: Chapter 28: Mudslide

At night, the rain poured down even harder.

Chen Wen curled up his body, opened his wings, with feathers resembling a bamboo hat, blocking all the falling rain outside his body.

Not only did he shield himself, but he also spread his wings to protect a few animals beside him.

Feeling Chen Wen’s protection, the few animals were quite curious and happy.

Especially the Crested Honey Buzzard, which kept flapping its wings, looking like it wanted to compare whose wings looked better with Chen Wen.

Chen Wen was chatting with the animals while looking at the unusually quiet clouded leopard.

”What’s wrong with you?”

The clouded leopard heard Chen Wen’s voice and shook its head, ”Nothing much, just feel like we’re close to finding those humans, they’re very, very close to us.”

”Can you smell them in such heavy rain?”

Chen Wen couldn’t help but say.

In the heavy rain, scents would be hidden, and almost all animals couldn’t lock onto distant scents in the rain.

Even military dogs could only smell fixed-position excrements.

But the clouded leopard shook its head, ”It’s not the scent, it’s a feeling, like what you humans call a sixth sense.”

The clouded leopard seemed to have touched memories I’d had before, even knowing about the sixth sense.

Chen Wen reached out his hand and gently stroked the clouded leopard’s head: ”Don’t worry, this time with me around, they won’t hurt anyone or any animal.”

As Chen Wen spoke.

He suddenly heard a rumbling sound, distant, and almost covered by the sound of the rain.

But he and the animals around him heard it.

”What’s that noise?”

Chen Wen couldn’t help but ask.

Probably about to confront those poachers, he always had an ominous premonition.

The clouded leopard stood up, carefully identifying the direction of the sound.

Moments later, it said, ”It’s the mountain we encountered in the morning, there’s a landslide there.”

Landslide?

Chen Wen looked at the clouded leopard dumbfounded.

”It’s just that the mountain collapsed, the earth, stones, and trees on the mountain rolled down together, only such heavy rain can cause this.”

Oh, a mudslide.

Chen Wen thought.

But...

He suddenly realized, if a team was following him, if nothing went wrong, they should’ve crossed the mountain by now, right?

Crossing the mountain, the chances of being affected is relatively small.

Chen Wen took out the satellite phone, and with the clouded leopard leading the way, he returned to the magnetic anomaly area of the lake zone.

Now even the satellite phone doesn’t work anymore.

...

On the mountain range.

All members of team A stood on the ridge, looking at the muddy torrents beneath their feet, feeling a lingering fear.

”Just a little! Just a little more!”

was extremely excited at the moment.

He vividly described what had happened at that time: ”I went to pee, was just peeing, and suddenly felt the ground in front collapsing, then I turned and ran, made three steps in two, climbed up in one go, and then the mudslide occurred.”

”Oh my goodness, that feeling, just like in an American movie, in an instant, the soil on the mountain broke in the middle, seemed to turn into water, rolling down with rocks and trees, rumbling, I will never forget that scene in my life!”

”I peed and caused a mountain to collapse! Am I awesome or what?!”

The others ignored 04 and focused on the collapsing mountain.

”From here on, the road is tough, to be precise, we’ve been blocked by the mudslide.”

said, looking at everyone, ”It’s impossible to catch up with Chen Wen now, all the traces and marks he left, including the paths we were about to take, are gone.”

”If Chen Wen didn’t have communication equipment on him, he’d actually be considered a missing person.”

calmed the restless military dog, Black Tiger, and said, ”What should we do then?”

sighed, ”Report, return, and wait for further instructions.”

”Everyone rest, night watch starts now, two people a group, starting from the smallest numbers, I and 04 will take the first shift, switching every two hours.”

...

Over at Xu Yong’s side.

Wearing only his underpants, he received the latest message from 02.

The mudslide destroyed the traces Chen Wen had left, they can’t keep up with him.

And Chen Wen lost contact again in the afternoon, the satellite phone also stopped working.

Seems like he’s gone back to the magnetic anomaly area again.

What to do now?

Xu Yong smoked one cigarette after another, eyes full of bewilderment.

This rescue mission was the biggest hurdle he’d faced in his life.

Not just the disappearance of personnel, but even poaching incidents have emerged.

He contacted the Forestry department earlier, but they had no idea there was a poaching organization there.

Even if there was, they couldn’t do anything.

Because the restricted area was never a place they could explore.

It was a typical uninhabited zone, with no way to install cameras.

It was too hard!

Xu Yong rubbed his head, feeling his already scarce hair losing a few more strands.

But just as he was fretting, muffled voices of conversation came from outside.

”I’ve got important information, need to speak to Mr. Xu.”

”Comrade, it’s really too late now, Mr. Xu is already resting, tomorrow...”

Xu Yong cleared his throat, quickly dressed, and said, ”I’m awake, let him in.”

The person who came in was a local young man, looking like he’d just graduated from college.

Xu Yong remembered him, he was very active during the rescue and loved sharing homemade rice dumplings with the camp members.

But they were too sweet.

The young man was exactly Wang Hu.

He hesitated for a moment and said, ”I think I know who the poachers are.”

Xu Yong was taken aback, ”How do you know?”

Wang Hu recalled his afternoon observations, ”In our village, there’s an old hunter named Mr. Xie, and his son, and the village head, Mr. Liu, they’ve all been away from home for several days.”

Xu Yong, hearing this, replied, ”Isn’t it normal to not be home? Mountain people go into the mountains to pick mushrooms or something, often for several days.”

In recent days, Xu Yong had grown familiar with the local people’s behavioral patterns.

People here loved mushrooms, and in the spring and summer, often went into the mountains to pick them.

Short trips took half a day, but those who made money from it often stayed three to four days.

Wang Hu immediately said, ”No, it’s not normal, they’ve been gone too long, almost half a month now. Mr. Xie’s wife also acted strangely, when I asked about her husband and son’s whereabouts, she just drove me away, and Mr. Liu, his daughter was one of the missing tourists, Liu Ting.”

”Moreover, a friend of mine, named Liu Zong, was in contact with Liu Hong before.”

Hearing this, Xu Yong keenly sensed something was wrong.

For the families of the missing people, they’d always been reassuring them.

Besides understanding the missing person’s personality and appearance, they hadn’t investigated their social relations.

He remembered Liu Ting, a local and a member of a university hiking club.

In fact, all four were members of the same hiking club.

Their trip here was long planned.

As a rule, it was very normal.

But after Liu Ting went missing, if her father never showed up, then there would be a big problem.

After Xu Yong thanked Wang Hu, he immediately gathered his top subordinates in the tent.

He quickly gave out several orders, and despite it being late at night, everyone got busy immediately.

Not long after.

With Mrs. Xie’s confession and the discovery of some animal specimens in Xie Sheng’s house.

There was new progress on the poaching case.

Xie Sheng, Xie Bing, and village head Liu Hong, along with an unnamed foreigner, suddenly appeared under everyone’s radar.
