Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 491: Chapter 40: Rescuing the Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape

In the jungle, Liu Hong and Xavier moved cautiously.

Meanwhile, behind them, Chen Wen followed slowly in the shadows.

With traits like ”stealth attack,” ”hide,” and ”silent movement,” he was not worried about being discovered by humans without equipment.

And indeed, that was the case.

Xavier and his companion could not see or hear Chen Wen’s slightest movement.

Chen Wen focused on Xavier, who was holding a handgun, feeling somewhat tense inside.

Without transforming, he categorized himself as high attack but low defense.

He could instantly take down Xavier, but Xavier could do the same to him.

Thus, Chen Wen followed for more than ten minutes, never finding the right opportunity.

Even though he found some wood and temporarily fashioned it into a wooden spear, trying to find a chance to throw it and disable Xavier’s weapon.

But Xavier was very alert, and the dark muzzle kept swaying.

No opportunity was given to Chen Wen.

This guy must have served in the military!

Seeing Xavier was about to return to the camp, Chen Wen gave up chasing and turned his attention to the long-armed ape.

As Chen Wen left, Xavier seemed to sense something.

He breathed a sigh of relief and said, ”That thing in the dark seems to have gone.”

”How do you judge that?”

Liu Hong was not very convinced.

Xavier scanned the surroundings and said, ”Sixth sense. Back when I was fighting in South America’s rainforest, my sixth sense helped me avoid countless dangers.”

Sixth sense?

This thing is so mysterious, can it be trusted?

Liu Hong didn’t say much and rather asked, ”What should we do now? Both Xie and Xie are gone.”

A hint of ruthlessness flashed across Xavier’s face: ”Forget about them; let’s return to the camp first. If the thing in the dark is human, he will surely follow us, and then we’ll find a way to lure him out. If it’s a beast, then having Xie and Xie, it won’t come after us. We kill those people and leave.”

Upon hearing this, Liu Hong nodded forcefully.

To survive now, he had to stick closely to Xavier.

...

The place where poachers set their ambush.

The male western black-crowned long-armed ape was trying to figure out how to rescue its offspring.

The awakening intellect made it aware of the ropes being suspicious, thus it did not rashly touch them.

When Chen Wen arrived, the long-armed ape looked at him, pleading: ”Help me, I sense there’s something wrong here, but I don’t know how to rescue my child.”

Chen Wen gestured to the long-armed ape not to panic.

He circled the trembling little long-armed ape, quickly understanding the basic principle of the trap.

”You all step back; this trap can be easily disarmed.”

Chen Wen instructed the crested honey hawk and the yellow-throated marten to retreat from the trap’s range.

He approached the stone suspended by a rope and, with his hunting knife, made a powerful slash.

With a clang, a white mark appeared on the stone.

The rope snapped accordingly.

As the stone fell, the tree’s rope wobbled, and the trap was completely disabled.

Chen Wen approached the trigger mechanism and stomped on it, rendering it useless.

Then he went near the little long-armed ape, gesturing to the male long-armed ape: ”Come over, soothe it, I’m going to untie the rope.”

Upon hearing Chen Wen’s voice, the male long-armed ape immediately approached.

It extended its long arm, holding the little long-armed ape close to its chest.

Chen Wen also reached out, first giving the little long-armed ape an ”Animal Doctor” blessing, alleviating its physical scarring.

Poaching is not a gentle act; during the capture of this little ape, the poachers used weapons multiple times to wound it.

And to make it scream, the Xie family had whipped it several times with belts.

Feeling the effects of the blessing, the little ape’s trembling body slowly calmed down.

Seeing this, Chen Wen immediately began untying the ropes.

Quickly.

The little ape escaped danger, promptly climbing to the side of a female long-armed ape.

Its bright watery Casillan eyes peeked at Chen Wen through the gaps.

Chen Wen waved amicably, then turned his attention to the male long-armed ape.

He felt this creature most likely wouldn’t leave with him.

As expected.

After expressing gratitude to Chen Wen, the male long-armed ape immediately showed intent to leave.

However, before parting, it glanced at Chen Wen: ”Thank you for your help, human; I will grant you what you need.”

A sound came from the system, but Chen Wen didn’t hurry to check.

He waved to the male western black-crowned long-armed ape: ”Goodbye, after this, no one will ever set foot on this mountain forest that belongs to you. You will be safe from now on.”

The male ape nodded, its eyes flickering with complex emotions.

But eventually, it turned around, leading its tribe to swiftly climb the canopy, swinging through the forest to distance themselves.

The newly freed little ape let out a series of woeful cries.

The echo resonated through the empty valley, lingering mournfully.

...

Watching the apes depart, Chen Wen felt a weight lifted from his heart.

But he turned and glanced at the poachers’ camp, his brow furrowing once again.

That was his main target.

Though this assault succeeded in disabling the Xie family, halving the poachers’ forces.

The remaining two men were far more formidable than the Xie family.

Xavier was strong and armed, while Liu Hong was a hunter by trade and very adapted to the terrain here.

In short, rescuing Yan Bian and the others would require more effort.

Just as Chen Wen contemplated what to do.

The bobcat agilely leapt down from the tree, coming to Chen Wen’s side.

”Why did you come here?”

Chen Wen asked, surprised.

The bobcat turned its head and pointed with its head in the direction of the camp: ”I saw the two humans come this way, so I tracked them in the opposite direction.”

”They went back and gathered everyone outside.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen nodded.

This was expected.

The two were highly alert, and upon returning, they would surely take action.

Gathering everyone outside was undoubtedly the best defense strategy.

”What are you planning to do now?”

The bobcat asked.

Chen Wen shook his head: ”Not sure yet, but I need to deal with those two captured ones first, then head to the camp and take a look.”

”You all go back to the cave first.”

After instructing the animals to return, Chen Wen headed toward the Xie father and son’s location.

...

Arriving at the place where Xie father and son were tied up.

By now, they had both already woken up.

Seeing Chen Wen arrive, Xie Sheng immediately put on a pleading expression.

His face and nose were covered in blood, looking quite fierce.

Initially, Chen Wen felt a bit of pity seeing the old man look so pitiable, but then he recalled what they did to the little ape.

As well as considering how they planned to treat Yan Bian and the others next.

The little sympathy Chen Wen had left instantly vanished.

He spoke coldly, ”Can you walk?”

The Xie father and son nodded repeatedly.

Afraid that if they couldn’t walk, Chen Wen would leave them behind.

After taking out the rope used to tie the little long-armed ape, Chen Wen tied their hands behind their backs and then tied up one of their legs.

”Walk slowly to the place I tell you, remember, no noise.”

Chen Wen picked up a palm-sized stone from the ground and waved it a couple of times.

”Whoever makes noise will get this thing smashed on his head, understand!”

Faced with Chen Wen’s threat, the Xie father and son nodded repeatedly.

Daring not to have even a hint of defiance.

Chen Wen’s previous ”intimidation” had been very frightening.

Their hearts were still pounding.

Seeing their cooperation, Chen Wen immediately herded them toward his cave camp.
