Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 461: Chapter 10: The First Night, Heavy Rain

Traversing the rainforest.

Chen Wen wiped the droplets of water off his face.

Besides sweat, there was a lot of condensed moisture.

After wiping it off, he looked at the rainforest behind him, feeling a lingering fear.

Crossing the rainforest is truly dangerous!

On this journey alone, Chen Wen saw two poisonous snakes.

One was a bamboo pit viper, and the other an unidentifiable snake, but with a very distinct triangular head.

Apart from that, there were countless bugs and small animals.

If it weren’t for the [Angri Star Official] entry specialized against insects, Chen Wen would have had several close encounters with the bugs in the rainforest.

The insects here are not the common ones.

Most of them are poisonous or somewhat aggressive.

As for the beasts.

Chen Wen even exchanged a distant glance with a black bear.

However, under the effect of [Intimidation], the black bear sensibly slinked away.

In the end, he managed to safely cross the rainforest region.

Chen Wen rested for a while under a broad-leaved forest and activated a high body temperature state to evaporate the water droplets from his body.

While resting.

The first rescue team suddenly brought exciting news—the first campsite was found!

The first campsite, where the four who fell behind rested for the first time, led by Yan Bian.

Previously during the search, due to Yan Bian and his group’s intermittent and chaotic footprints, the armed police couldn’t find it.

But now, in just one afternoon, they made a major breakthrough, which is truly exhilarating!

Even Chen Wen stood up excitedly at this moment.

”Great, how did they find it?”

The officer in charge of contacting Chen Wen said, ”It’s the military dog. Yan Bian and his group defecated near the campsite, leaving a strong scent. The military dog, Hei Hu, followed their traces to find where they set up camp.”

Impressive, no wonder it’s a meritorious military dog!

Chen Wen thought, immediately standing up, planning to meet up with the first rescue team and exchange information.

...

Weaving through this evergreen broad-leaved forest is much simpler than the rainforest area.

In the forest area, there are fewer animals, and you can’t see poisonous insects and snakes.

The plants on the ground are sparser, eliminating the need to spend a lot of time clearing the ground.

Therefore, it took about forty minutes for Chen Wen to successfully reach the first campsite.

The first campsite.

When Chen Wen arrived, the first rescue team was ready to leave.

Seeing Chen Wen, the members looked at him, and the bobcat on his shoulder, somewhat surprised.

”Hello.”

Chen Wen said with a chuckle, ”Are you planning to continue the rescue?”

Member 01 nodded, ”Yes.”

He didn’t invite Chen Wen to join but pointed to the first campsite and said, ”If you want to rest, you can directly use this existing campsite, as we’ve already gathered clues.”

Chen Wen nodded.

Member 01 didn’t say much, instead giving orders for the surrounding members to prepare to depart.

Chen Wen heard this and glanced at the sky.

It was overcast, and a mass of dark clouds was quickly enveloping.

It was nearing evening already.

According to Chen Wen’s thinking, it was time to rest.

First, though it wasn’t raining outside, the clouds were moving fast. Based on local youth’s advice, Chen Wen worried that this cloud might bring heavy rain.

Second, continuing on in the rain would be cold and uncomfortable, posing a risk of hypothermia and dampening spirits.

Third, after dark, the whole forest would become extremely dangerous. Without knowing the terrain, it’s best to be cautious.

Therefore, when the first rescue team was about to leave.

Chen Wen shared his thoughts with them.

Hearing this, one numbered 06 showed quite an interest in Chen Wen, seemingly surprised by his insights.

But he didn’t speak, waiting for 01 to reply.

At this time, 01 looked at Chen Wen, also intrigued, yet he said, ”What you thought of, 06 also did. However, we have undergone night marching training and can endure heavy rain, so this environment is just routine for us, onward!”

Chen Wen advised again, ”Friend, I know you can handle this situation, but since we’re going to save people, it’s best to preserve your energy.”

”No worries, we got this.”

grinned and said, ”The training we received is more brutal than you can imagine, so this is really nothing, thanks for the concern, you should rest up first!”

After saying that, the members of the first rescue team chuckled kindly and left.

Chen Wen shook his head.

He opted to set up camp and rest on the spot.

...

”Time is life, there’s no problem with the first rescue team.”

In the main camp, Xu Yong appreciated the first rescue team’s choice.

Yet Liu Yu’s eyes gleamed with concern.

Mr. Lu from the emergency rescue association also wore a solemn expression.

Both of them understood that most of the time, saving lives is a race against time, but this time was different.

First, the missing ones have some survival skills. They’re either guides or locals, the tourists are also adept at hiking, with some experience, so rushing isn’t crucial.

Second, the Ailao Mountain environment is different from elsewhere, the situation here is too complex.

The rain doesn’t stop, and the sky seems to be perpetually overcast.

Prolonged exposure to rain can physically harm, causing chills.

It can also emotionally affect people, leading to mood depression and bouts of melancholy.

But they weren’t sure about the physical endurance of the first rescue team, so they refrained from judging.

They could only wait for updates.

...

Meanwhile, with Chen Wen.

After opting to camp on the spot, he gathered some sticks from the surrounding forest.

He placed these sticks over the shelter for simple repairs.

Thanks to entries like [Homebird] and [Refined Little Bird],

Chen Wen’s shelter looked aesthetically pleasing and sturdy.

After admiring his work with satisfaction, he lay inside the shelter to rest.

At that moment, light rain began to fall intermittently from the sky.

But in less than a minute, the light rain gradually turned into a downpour.

Listening to the sound of raindrops hitting the foliage, Chen Wen, with enhanced hearing, felt quite irritable.

He found it hard to sleep, merely closing his eyes to rest lightly.

Meanwhile, with the first rescue team.

In the rain curtain, the team members used bright lights to trudge difficultly through the muddy rainforest.

”Careful, there’s a slide ahead, let’s go around it.”

Pathfinder 06 said, ”Notify group B to let them rest, tonight’s path is quite treacherous.”

nodded, notifying group B ahead to pause.

”What about us?”

Someone asked.

”Let’s go a bit further, join up with group B, can you hold up?”

”Of course we can!”

”Yeah, we haven’t even scratched the surface yet!”

”Just do it, let’s go!”

The morale was high, and they pushed onward.

As they advanced, 04 couldn’t help but mutter, ”That kid was sharp! He knew to stop and rest before it even started raining.”

06, who had been leading, turned his head and said, ”That kid is pretty impressive, not like an average person, especially in weather prediction, he’s almost like me who grew up in the mountains.”

05, hearing this, laughed and asked, ”You’re from the mountains?”

”Haha, don’t pry.”

laughed and said, ”Let’s be cautious too, this mountain seems a bit odd, the rain is fierce. Based on police data, future rains might intensify and prolong.”

”Initially, it might not be much, but when the rain prolongs, even if we were iron men, we couldn’t withstand it. We should conduct rescues orderly like that kid.”

Upon hearing the professional opinion of 06, everyone agreed.

”Do you know what’s up with that kid?”

asked, ”I saw him carrying what seemed like a cat.”

”That’s a bobcat, an animal from North America.”

Knowledgeable 05 said, ”I remember this person, he dabbles in wilderness survival and is skilled at taming animals.”

”That’s enough chit-chat, the place ahead is group B’s temporary campsite, let’s pick up the pace.”

interrupted the chat, and the others stopped talking to catch up with 06.
