Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 478: Chapter 27: Poaching Team

Under the guidance of the clouded leopard, Chen Wen chased after the unknown group.

Let’s not talk about the journey for now.

Behind Chen Wen, by evening, a team finally reached the mountaintop and made contact with the camp.

”Camp, camp, this is Team A Group. We’ve reached the location mentioned by Team B earlier.”

Listening to the panting voices over the communication device, Xu Yong asked, ”What’s your situation? Why so slow?”

”Don’t mention it, someone had a fever on the way, and we sent them back. Now, only six of us made it to the top, and the path is extremely dangerous, with many poisonous insects and snakes, so we can’t speed up.”

Upon hearing this, Xu Yong’s expression immediately became tense.

He conveyed Chen Wen’s speculation as it was, then said, ”In short, the situation is getting more complicated. The other party is likely a poaching group armed with firearms. We can’t provide support, and Chen Wen has gone ahead. Now, only you can support Chen Wen.”

Upon hearing this, 09’s face changed dramatically.

After hanging up the phone, he immediately said, ”The other party definitely has firearms. I once participated in an anti-poaching mission in Kekexili and am familiar with such groups. Any group daring to poach in a no-man’s land definitely carries firearms; it’s just a matter of what kind.”

”What should we do then? The second team went up alone, and they have no experience facing firearms, right?”

was also anxious.

At this moment, the temporary leader 02 stepped forward, taking a more prudent approach: ”Let’s set up camp first and chase after them tomorrow. Facing firearms, they lack experience, and they’re too young. They really need our help.”

Everyone nodded in agreement and set up camp along the trail left by Chen Wen on the ridge.

As soon as the makeshift shelter was completed, it started to rain heavily.

...

Deep within the restricted zone.

The poaching team gathered together.

However, the faces of these people didn’t look good.

The foreigner was a leader-like figure.

He looked grimly at the three Asians before him.

”Who let the clouded leopard go? Still not speaking up?”

With these words, the foreigner harshly slammed a wooden block in front of him.

The three Asians couldn’t help but shiver.

One of the older ones braced himself and said, ”Xavier, we really don’t know. We were all exhausted last night and asleep.”

The foreigner, Xavier, snorted and said, ”Since you don’t know, then just kill the four young ones we caught. They were the closest to the cage; it must be one of them!”

Murder!

The three faces turned as pale as a sheet.

”What? Unwilling?”

Xavier looked interestedly at the older one: ”Old Xie, you choose one.”

Xie Sheng, the one addressed, changed his expression, immediately pleading, ”Please, don’t. Didn’t we agree in the beginning? I’m only responsible for leading the way.”

Xavier sneered at this, not pressing Xie Sheng further.

He then turned to the younger one: ”How about you, Xie? Your father is unwilling, so you do it for him!”

The young Xie Bing also wanted to beg Xavier to give up, but this time it didn’t work.

Xavier held a compact pistol in his hand, aiming it at Xie Bing.

Xie Bing seemed to collapse instantly, falling to the ground.

Xavier scolded, ”You think I’m easy to talk to? You have two choices now! First, tell me who let the clouded leopard go; second, kill someone to prove your loyalty!”

After speaking, Xavier glared at the other two who wanted to intercede.

Click, the pistol was cocked.

The young Xie Bing could no longer bear the mental pressure and spilled everything he knew: ”I’ll tell! I’ll tell! It was that woman, Liu Ting, she’s... she’s Liu Hong’s daughter!”

Upon hearing this, the middle-aged male poacher’s face changed dramatically.

And the next moment, Xavier’s gun was pointed at him: ”Liu Hong, I didn’t expect it to be you. I knew there was a reason why you kept stopping me from killing those four young ones; turns out one is your daughter!”

Hearing this, Liu Hong wanted to argue.

But Xavier didn’t give him the chance: ”Tie him up!”

Xie Bing immediately pounced, binding Liu Hong.

Liu Hong struggled fiercely, but with Xavier’s gun pointed at his head, he lost all his strength to resist.

But just as Xavier was about to speak.

Liu Hong suddenly said, ”Don’t harm my daughter. I can help you capture the Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape in exchange for the clouded leopard!”

Xavier was taken aback.

As the main target of this poaching, the Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape is not easy to catch.

These animals live in trees, with a wide view, are quite wary, and have a mixed diet without particular favorites.

They’re also very smart and rarely come to the ground.

If the buyer didn’t require live captures, Xavier would have used firearms already.

Now that Liu Hong said this.

Xavier put away his gun: ”What’s your plan?”

”Using our ancestral methods.”

Sweat beads formed on Liu Hong’s face: ”The Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape is good at calling and also uses calls to attract companions. Our village has ancestral whistles that can mimic their calls and attract them closer.”

Whistles?

Xavier glanced covertly at Xie Sheng.

Xie Sheng shivered, nodding shakily to confirm: ”Yes, there is such a thing, but I’m an outsider and don’t know the details, but Liu Hong definitely knows since he’s one of the senior people in the village.”

Although Xavier couldn’t understand Xie Sheng’s words, he understood that Liu Hong truly had the capability to capture the Western Black-crowned Long-armed Apes.

That’s sufficient.

”Why didn’t you mention this before?”

Xavier fiddled with his fingers, looking at Liu Hong.

”Earlier... earlier, my daughter suddenly came in, and I panicked, so I didn’t think of it.”

Liu Hong wiped his face on his shoulder to absorb the cold sweat, knowing he had passed this hurdle.

He had seen with his own eyes this mercurial foreigner ruthlessly put comrades in peril.

”In that case...”

Xavier suddenly laughed, instructing to untie Liu Hong: ”Then go on, I want to start hunting the Western Black-crowned Long-armed Apes we’re tracking by tomorrow.”

”Also, Liu Hong, if you manage to capture them, both you and your daughter can leave this forest safely. But as for the others...”

Xavier’s smile grew sinister: ”I’ve already found black bear traces. Kill the others, feed them to the bear! No refusals allowed! Whoever refuses, dies!”

Everyone was shocked.

Xavier only laughed more eerily: ”After this is over, you three will truly be my own people. I’ll inform the headquarters, and you three will become my direct subordinates, sharing the spoils!”

”Do well, Liu Hong. By the way, about your daughter... you’d better keep her in line. If you can’t, have her hands stained with blood too, so she’ll keep her mouth shut forever, hahahaha!”

With a perverse laugh, Xavier staggered out.

Leaving behind three sweat-drenched men, facing an uncertain fate.

The three remained in the cave until late at night before there was movement.

Gritting his teeth, Liu Hong said, ”This is it, follow his orders! We’ve done enough to be executed if caught! One more won’t matter!”

”Do we really have to?”

Xie Sheng timidly asked.

”If not, we die! Dad, don’t be stupid! We are working for Xavier because of money!”

Xie Bing, too, gritting his teeth: ”Before, bringing him in earned us tens of thousands, but if we can share the spoils, it could be nearly a hundred thousand!”

The desire for life, the greed for money, slowly overcame their fear of killing.

With a few nods, the three slowly emerged from the dark cave, entering the rainy night.

Seeing their expressions, Xavier finally relaxed.

Great, it seems I’ll soon have three useful subordinates!
