Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 466: Chapter 15: Hypothermia Emergency Treatment

In Lv Guocheng’s tent, he was a bit worried now.

It wasn’t because of the progress of the search and rescue, but because of some online rumors.

Chen Wen entered Ailao Mountain alone, and everyone at the camp knew it.

Precisely because everyone knew, someone took photos and videos of Chen Wen and posted them online.

Originally, it was a good thing.

But opinions about this matter online have split into two factions.

One faction believes that Chen Wen is very commendable, loyal, and righteous.

The other faction thinks that Chen Wen is merely seeking attention, even claiming that his entry only causes trouble.

The main issue is that the two factions are evenly matched.

In this era of information explosion, with hype happening from time to time, netizens are becoming more and more skeptical.

No matter what happens, there will always be someone questioning it from various angles.

Just like this time with Chen Wen.

Combined with the messy rumors about Ailao Mountain.

Netizens believe that Chen Wen’s entry is completely pointless.

However, just when Lv Guocheng was worried, news came that Chen Wen had found a missing guide.

Hearing this, Lv Guocheng was overjoyed.

He was pleased to have retrieved the missing person and excited that the rumors about Chen Wen were naturally dispelled.

He immediately asked which guide it was.

Wang Zhi excitedly revealed the guide’s name.

Lv Guocheng quickly stood up and went to find the guide’s relatives.

...

Meanwhile, on Chen Wen’s side.

He started first aid.

Hypothermia is also called hypothermia syndrome or cold temperature syndrome.

It’s a common physical abnormality encountered outdoors.

The fundamental cause of hypothermia is low surrounding temperature, the body can’t withstand the cold, and the core body temperature begins to drop.

When in the Yukon, Chen Wen’s partner Hua Yun experienced hypothermia.

Back then, Hua Yun’s hypothermia wasn’t severe, being between mild and moderate hypothermia.

Moreover, Chen Wen immediately lit a fire and provided Hua Yun with clothes, and Hua Yun warmed up by exercising.

Their proper response prevented the hypothermia from worsening.

In fact, it quickly healed.

But this time is different.

The guide’s hypothermia is quite severe, transitioning from moderate hypothermia to severe hypothermia.

He has already fallen into a faint, his face pale, and his lips especially blue.

Moreover, there are no conditions to light a fire, this is a rainforest area at the foot of the mountain, everything is wet.

Chen Wen also doesn’t have many clothes, and the guide can’t exercise due to the faint.

Consequently, this situation is far more dangerous and dire than the last time!

”Damo, go to his neck and wrap around it, Greywing, crawl under his armpit.”

Chen Wen took off his own clothes and covered the guide’s upper body.

He let the bobcat lie on the guide’s neck, using the bobcat’s fur and body heat to raise the core area’s temperature.

The crested hawk-eagle crawling into the armpit is for the same reason.

Once the two animals were in place, Chen Wen first used his backpack to block the shelter’s gap to keep out the cold wind.

This is the first step in dealing with hypothermia—stop the loss, which means reducing the heat loss of the hypothermic person.

Next, Chen Wen lifted the guide up so that his upper body was off the damp ground.

This is also stopping the loss.

The ground temperature is far lower than the human body’s temperature, especially in the incessant rain of Ailao Mountain.

Then Chen Wen changed the guide’s somewhat damp clothes.

Still stopping the loss.

Because wet clothes take away heat several times more than dry clothes do.

After removing the clothes, Chen Wen immediately wiped the guide, removing the moisture from his body.

Finally, he put his own drier clothes on the guide.

The stopping loss work was complete.

Chen Wen sent out the crested hawk-eagle and bobcat to guide the following rescue team.

And he hugged the guide face-to-face, activating the high-body-temperature state of [Temperature Change].

This is the second step in dealing with hypothermia, warming up.

Simply put, it means using anything warmer than the human body, pressing it against the core areas of the hypothermic person

The core areas are three places—the neck, armpit, and thigh-root.

Chen Wen wrapped his right arm around the guide’s neck, and then pressed his body against the guide’s right armpit, with his right arm encircling past the guide’s right armpit.

His right leg pressed against the guide’s thigh-root, maintaining the core temperature as much as possible.

And kept his body close to the guide’s body, providing warmth.

This was all Chen Wen could do for now.

If it were mild hypothermia, the hypothermic person would be conscious, just feeling very cold, and you could try massage.

Promote blood circulation, thereby raising the temperature.

But once hypothermia is severe, this won’t be an option.

In this situation, massage accelerates blood flow, which could let the already cold blood in the limbs flow back to the heart.

Increasing heart burden, causing ventricular fibrillation, and in serious cases, even death!

Also, methods like drinking hot tea or alcohol can only deal with mild hypothermia.

Moderate to severe hypothermia can only be treated with emergency aid like what Chen Wen was using.

With the radiation of Chen Wen’s body heat, the guide’s hypothermia was halted.

Although he didn’t wake up, his body temperature no longer dropped.

But was slowly rising under Chen Wen’s high body temperature.

This was good news!

Feeling the guide’s change, Chen Wen finally eased a sigh of relief.

After a while, with his super hearing, Chen Wen heard the cry of the bobcat and the sound of the military dog, Black Tiger.

Then, along with a series of chaotic footsteps.

and 09, who were dispatched, quickly arrived in front of the shelter.

Chen Wen shouted: ”Prepare the first aid stuff, at most one person can come in! It’s very narrow inside! Try not to let any wind in!”

immediately responded: ”Understood!”

He took out the medical kit he carried and specifically brought out hand warmers, chocolate, thermal blankets, and a warmer.

After exchanging a glance with 09, 09 opened the backpack, and 08 quickly crawled in.

then immediately closed the backpack.

At the same time, he took off his raincoat and spread it outside to block the cold wind.

”Black Tiger, you block this side, I’ll handle this side!”

issued an order, having Black Tiger stand on one side to block the wind.

And he himself stood on the other side, spreading his arms to shield that side.

Inside.

Seeing Chen Wen’s actions, 08 immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

Chen Wen had chosen the most correct approach and executed textbook-standard first aid!

thought while commencing the follow-up rescue.

He turned on the warmer, handed it to Chen Wen, activated the hand warmers, and applied them to the guide’s core body area.

This relieved Chen Wen.

Chen Wen released the guide, supporting him, and deactivated the high-body-temperature state.

While 08 took out the medical kit, extracted a syringe and a vial of medicine, heated it on the stove, and then injected it.

Chen Wen didn’t ask what the medicine was, but he assumed it must have been something like adrenaline.

Once the injection was complete, 08 wrapped the guide’s whole body with a thermal blanket.

He also took off his own clothes and put them on the guide.

Then he continuously checked the guide’s condition.

A moment later, 08 breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Chen Wen: ”You pulled him back from the Ghost Gate!”

Hearing this, Chen Wen was somewhat surprised: ”That serious?”

”I was being conservative, if you had found him twenty—no, ten minutes later, he would have entered the third stage of hypothermia, which is severe hypothermia, with body temperature dropping below thirty degrees Celsius, at that point it would have been a waiting game.”

said, looking at Chen Wen with great admiration: ”But he was in poor condition just now, your emergency measures were very standard, that’s what brought him back.”

”The situation is stable now, take a rest.”

handed his water bottle to Chen Wen: ”With added salt, we brought some salt, you probably didn’t bring any, did you?”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen didn’t speculate further and just took a few gulps.

The emergency aid this time didn’t leave him utterly exhausted, but it certainly drained his energy.

While the two were talking, the guide’s eyelids fluttered quickly.

Was he waking up?
