Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 457: Chapter 6: Chen Wen’s Obsession

Chen Wen realized he had misspoken and immediately tried to make amends.

But before he could speak, a middle-aged man in a police uniform walked over with Liu Yu.

Looking at the other’s shoulder badge, it was clear that this was no ordinary person.

He took a deep look at Chen Wen, and it was obvious that he had heard what Chen Wen had just said.

However, he didn’t say much but instead comforted the surrounding family members.

And in his capacity as a provincial leader, he made a promise: ”We will not give up on any citizen of Hua Country; rest assured everyone!”

After he finished speaking, the surrounding family members felt much more at ease.

With the persuasion of other police officers, the family members were orderly arranged into tents.

Seeing this scene, Chen Wen breathed a sigh of relief.

However, just as he planned to soothe the emotions of Yan Bian’s wife and children again, he saw Liu Yu beckoning to him.

Next to him, that important provincial official was looking at him with a knowing smile.

Chen Wen hissed and felt a bit of a headache.

He was never good with words, and this time he was pressed and blurted out such a sentence.

It just so happened that what he said had stirred up trouble.

But regardless, he had been called over and couldn’t ignore it.

Chen Wen took a deep breath and walked straight over.

...

After several twists and turns, he arrived behind a tent.

”This is the chief person in charge of the rescue operation this time, also the general commander, the head of the provincial department in Yun Province, surname Xu.”

Liu Yu introduced.

”Mr. Xu.”

Although surprised by the other’s position, Chen Wen still spoke neither humbly nor arrogantly.

Xu Yong waved his hand: ”Just call me Xu, Chen Wen, I noticed you seem to have some opinions about this rescue operation?”

As soon as he spoke, Chen Wen felt the pressure.

”If I had to say, there are indeed some.”

Chen Wen decided to speak honestly: ”First, the organization of the rescue team is a bit lacking. There are many skilled individuals, but they haven’t been utilized properly.”

This made Xu Yong’s expression shift a bit, but he didn’t interrupt Chen Wen.

”Second, the arrangements are somewhat chaotic, but considering the urgency, it’s understandable. The staff has been working hard, busy for so many days in such weather.”

Chen Wen spoke while reflecting on himself: ”I was a bit anxious just now when I blurted out those words, sorry about that.”

”It’s okay, I understand. After all, I’m under much more pressure here than you are, and I’ve said a lot of mess myself.”

Xu Yong smiled and gestured for Chen Wen to continue.

Chen Wen nodded slightly, and then said: ”The third point is actually similar to the first.”

After a moment’s pause, Chen Wen said: ”Considering the situation in the Ailao Mountain Forbidden Zone, I believe we shouldn’t conduct large-scale search and rescue operations. Instead, smaller scale searches are needed, with small teams of two or three people each paired with a local or guide, as this method is more efficient.”

Hearing Chen Wen’s words, Xu Yong nodded in agreement.

”You’re right, but regarding your three grievances, I also have some words.”

Xu Yong’s expression was calm: ”Rescue operations in Ailao Mountain have always been difficult; you should know this. This time, eight people went missing at once, which is significant, coinciding with continuous heavy rain, so the organization was somewhat lacking. But we’ve already tried our best.”

Liu Yu added: ”Yesterday, Mr. Xu was not here because he personally led a team to clear the roads, working all night so that the bus could come in today.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen looked admiringly at the provincial leader, whose complexion wasn’t looking too well.

”Staying up all night is normal in my line of work. I also started from the grassroots back in the day; when encountering major cases, sometimes I couldn’t sleep in a bed for three or four days.”

Xu Yong took a sip of strong tea and continued: ”About your suggestion of small group searches, our expert team has mentioned it too. While this method is good, it has a fatal flaw.”

Here, Xu Yong left a suspense, looking at Chen Wen.

But Chen Wen directly said: ”Is it about people? I found most people here are quite afraid of the forbidden zone, especially locals. If we divide into small groups, locals might not accept it.”

Xu Yong was taken aback, exchanged a glance with Liu Yu, and laughed: ”Seems you weren’t talking nonsense; you do have some insight.”

”You’re absolutely right, and it’s not just the locals. Even professional rescuers, and my own men, have psychological fears. My men, how should I put it? They’re great at dealing with criminals, but facing the jungle’s poisonous insects and beasts, they’re not as good as you are.”

Xu Yong said helplessly: ”Yun Province inherently has many mountains and forests. Over the years, as people have gotten wealthier, they like to travel, which has led to a consistently high number of missing cases, making rescue work challenging. Our country, or rather 99% of countries worldwide, have poor search and rescue capabilities in forested areas.”

”The issue of people is difficult to solve, unless we start from scratch and train a batch of professional rescue personnel, but this project would consume enormous manpower and resources.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen also felt helpless.

Hua Country is actually doing relatively well in this regard.

In most countries, if someone goes missing, the government won’t even care.

After a moment of silence, Xu Yong said: ”Yesterday, Mr. Liu told me you wanted to join the military’s rescue team?”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen quickly nodded.

Looking at Chen Wen, Xu Yong said: ”At the time, I thought you were just messing around, so I didn’t agree, but now it seems you’ve done your homework. How about this!”

”When the people from that side arrive, I can help you ask, but whether you can get in still depends on them.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen immediately expressed his gratitude.

Xu Yong waved his hand, somewhat curiously asked: ”Among the missing people this time, is there your friend or family?”

Chen Wen nodded: ”It’s that guide, Yan Bian. We participated in a program together before and became close brothers afterward.”

”To be honest, it’s hard for me to imagine you’d be willing to risk your life to enter the forbidden zone for him.”

Xu Yong said: ”I mean no offense, just that I’ve seen many people, and rarely anyone as loyal and righteous as you, even willing to enter such a dangerous forbidden area.”

Upon hearing Xu Yong’s compliment, Chen Wen didn’t say much, simply stating: ”I only received the news the day before yesterday. At that time, I saw a message in my records from Yan Bian’s son. It was this message that made me decide, no matter what, I have to bring Yan Bian back.”

Taking out his phone, Chen Wen handed it to Xu Yong.

Upon seeing it, Xu Yong’s expression immediately changed.

The message was simple.

[Uncle Chen Wen, my dad is missing. He said on the phone if he couldn’t make it back, I should find you]

So that’s it; no wonder this young man is so determined.

Returning the phone to Chen Wen, Xu Yong said: ”I will do my utmost to get you a spot in the rescue team.”

Chen Wen nodded lightly, ”Thank you.”
