Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 467: Chapter 16: The Short-Tailed Cat Attacked

Chen Wen and 08 watched as the guide slowly opened his eyes, and a huge weight was lifted from their hearts.

Chen Wen shouted outside, ”He’s awake, the situation is stable, take a break.”

Outside, 09 didn’t respond or make any noise.

Truly a soldier.

Chen Wen thought to himself.

At this moment, the newly awakened guide looked around in confusion and asked, ”Who are you? Where am I? Why is it so cold!”

Hearing this, 08 recalled the previously sent intelligence and said, ”Zhou Zhijian? Is that right? You’re a guide for the Yun Province Travel Agency, a local of Ailao Mountain? Do you remember anything?”

Chen Wen, who was on the side, took out the chocolate 08 had brought and handed it to Zhou Zhijian, signaling him to eat it.

This was also a measure to prevent hypothermia.

Zhou Zhijian expressed his gratitude, then ate while trying to recall.

”You guys... hss! I remember now. It was when Mr. Yan’s group lost four people in the restricted area.”

Zhou Zhijian frowned, holding his head as he recalled, ”At that time, we couldn’t wait for rescue or news, so Mr. Yan decided to go in himself to look for them.”

”Mr. Yan is a good person. Three people from our travel agency and another travel agency went in with Mr. Yan.”

Upon hearing news about Yan Bian, Chen Wen immediately became tense.

Zhou Zhijian continued, ”We brought a lot of supplies into the restricted area. Because the ground was very wet, Mr. Yan found it easy to follow the footprints, but those four young people were fast, and we never caught up.”

”On the third day, right up ahead, I accidentally stepped into a ground hole and sprained my ankle. I asked Mr. Yan and the others to go on while I used a stick to get back here, planning to camp and wait for Mr. Yan to return.”

”Who could have known that the day before yesterday, a yellow-throated marten, for some reason, attacked me, and that’s how I got injured.”

”It bit me, and I chased it away, but who knew the night before last, the thing sneaked up and dismantled part of my shelter, leaving me soaked in the rain, resulting in this state.”

After saying this, Zhou Zhijian asked, ”You must be the rescue team sent from above, right? Did you follow the marks we left? What’s the situation now? Is there news about Mr. Yan and the others?”

Chen Wen sighed and said, ”We just found you, we have no knowledge of your situation. This matter outside has blown up huge, the rescue teams are all young soldiers, this time you really...”

Zhou Zhijian felt a bit guilty, ”We were also impulsive, thinking that with our experience, we could find those four lost people, so we came in.”

”But don’t worry, Mr. Yan and the others should be fine, we brought plenty of supplies.”

Upon hearing this, 08 shook his head and said, ”You have no idea. After you came in, the weather here worsened rapidly. The current Ailao Mountain is like a green hell that could have flash floods and landslides anytime!”

”It’s... that serious?”

Zhou Zhijian looked at 08 with some fright, and then turned to Chen Wen.

Chen Wen nodded, ”The rescue team arrived late because the situation is too complex. Even the locals don’t dare to go deep.”

This time, Zhou Zhijian was completely panicked, and he quickly asked, ”Then Mr. Yan and the others...”

”We will keep searching!”

Chen Wen’s eyes were firm, ”You rest first, I’ll go outside to have a look.”

After Chen Wen left, Zhou Zhijian asked 08, ”Are you all PLA soldiers?”

”I am, he is not.”

watched Chen Wen’s departing figure and said, ”But he does it better than us!”

...

With the arrival of the subsequent large troops, Zhou Zhijian’s conditions completely stabilized.

As a medic, 08 began to treat his wounds.

The news of Chen Wen rescuing Zhou Zhijian also spread completely.

A great start!

This was Xu Yong’s assessment.

At this moment, he was very certain that his decision back then was correct!

Most importantly, after nearly a week of idly waiting here, he finally had something to report!

Xu Yong immediately contacted outside, reporting the just happened events to the higher-ups.

At the same time, loud noises were coming from the family area in the camp.

Zhou Zhijian’s family was restless, wishing they could grow wings and bring Zhou Zhijian back now.

However, under Lu Guocheng and others’ reassuring, the families finally calmed down.

Seeing the timing was right, Lu Guocheng immediately shared his thoughts with the families.

Upon hearing the slander against Chen Wen online, the families couldn’t sit still at all.

Whether it was Zhou Zhijian’s already rescued family members or other families, they were somewhat filled with righteous indignation at this moment.

”Chen Wen has already saved Old Zhou, yet they are defaming Chen Wen online, I, for one, won’t agree!”

Zhou Zhijian’s wife, a local with a bold character, immediately said, ”Mr. Lv, you say, what should we do?”

The others were also eagerly waiting for Chen Wen to bring back more good news, and they all said, ”Yes, what should we do?”

Lv Guocheng nodded, ”Then just follow what I said...”

...

The restricted area.

With the entire team arriving, Chen Wen also had to set off again.

After discussion, the team decided to have two people stay behind and escort Zhou Zhijian to the third team’s response camp.

The rest would continue forward.

On Chen Wen’s side, after rescuing Zhou Zhijian, he had obtained a lot of useful information.

First, Yan Bian and the others had abundant supplies, so there was no worry about starving or dying of thirst.

Second, among the remaining two guides, one had secretly entered the restricted area before to gather medicinal herbs and was somewhat familiar with this place.

If they noticed something wrong and found a place to hide in time, safety could be ensured.

While not exactly great news, it was much better than knowing nothing at the beginning.

Moving forward!

Throughout the entire afternoon, Chen Wen, utilizing the sharp insight of the Bobtail Cat, continuously searched for marks, shuttling through the rainforest area.

There are many animals here, some unique ones too.

On the way, Chen Wen saw two animals with personalities.

One was similar to a deer, timid by nature, and upon seeing Chen Wen from afar, it nervously fled.

The other was a black bear, cunning in nature.

Upon seeing Chen Wen, it too immediately fled, not giving Chen Wen a chance to interact.

Am I that scary?

Chen Wen couldn’t help but think.

But anyway, with these animals fleeing far away, it put Chen Wen’s mind at ease.

At least there wouldn’t be an incident of animals attacking humans.

As for the creature that attacked Zhou Zhijian, Chen Wen roughly knew what it was.

The yellow-throated marten, locally called a yellow-waisted fox, its scientific name is Martes flavigula.

A mustelid predator.

In the mustelid family, nine out of ten are big bosses.

The yellow-throated marten is one of them.

This creature has a long body, with orange-yellow fur.

It weighs only two to three kilograms, but it’s invincible among similar-sized creatures.

Even larger forest musk deer and tufted deer could be hunted alone by it.

Packs of yellow-throated martens could even take down larger prey.

Its temperament is also quite fierce and aggressive.

However, it’s rare to see yellow-throated martens attacking humans; they mostly attack livestock and pets when in contact with humans.

In rural areas, cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, and geese are often its prey.

After remembering the information on yellow-throated martens, Chen Wen glanced at his current location.

Here was a mountain depression with flat terrain, suitable for resting.

After all, it was getting late, and it had started to drizzle from the sky again.

Chen Wen planned to build a simple shelter here.

He instructed the crested goshawk to survey the area from above to see if there were any large predators or smoke traces.

Just as Chen Wen was picking up wood, intending to set up the shelter.

In the nearby thickets, the Bobtail Cat, attempting to hunt, suddenly let out a hoarse and shrill cry.

”Help me!”

At the instant he heard the Bobtail Cat’s cry, Chen Wen grabbed the hunting knife and rushed out.
