Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 463: Chapter 12: Crested Honey Buzzard

Soon, Chen Wen arrived at the backpack.

”What do you want to eat?”

After opening the backpack, Chen Wen directly poured out some of the food inside.

One of the squashed rice dumplings immediately caught the eagle’s attention.

It hurriedly exclaimed, ”That one, the green thing, I want to eat it!”

Honey rice dumpling?

Chen Wen was taken aback for a moment; this was something a little fan gave him during lunch yesterday.

When he set off, he casually placed it in the backpack.

Say, why would an eagle eat a rice dumpling?

Although shocked, Chen Wen still took out the dumpling and placed it in front of himself: ”Go ahead and eat. Trust me, I won’t harm you; otherwise, I wouldn’t be giving you food, right?”

The eagle tilted its head, thought about it, and realized that Chen Wen made sense.

It decided to trust Chen Wen, spreading its wings to glide down from above.

”Hmm, I trust you.”

The eagle said, and immediately used its sharp beak to peck through the rice dumpling’s skin and began eating.

While eating, the eagle made sounds of enjoyment, ”Delicious!”

Watching the eagle devour with great relish, Chen Wen couldn’t help but question its species.

Most eagles eat meat; they are birds of prey, after all.

But why does this one have such a fondness for glutinous rice dumplings?

At this moment, Chen Wen suddenly noticed, through his enhanced sense of smell abilities, that the dumpling had a very sweet scent.

He suddenly remembered the method to make these dumplings.

They’re filled with brown sugar, wrapped in a layer of honey.

”Could you be a honey buzzard?”

Chen Wen looked at the eagle and couldn’t help but ask.

The honey buzzard was taken aback, not understanding what Chen Wen meant at all.

But Chen Wen’s thoughts turned wildly; this fellow was very likely some kind of honey buzzard!

Honey buzzards are a type of eagle that feeds on honey and bee larvae.

They have a fondness for sweet honey.

This eagle’s behavior was extremely similar to that of a honey buzzard.

Moreover, Chen Wen noticed that it wasn’t eating the glutinous rice; instead, it was focused on the honey-coated leaves of the dumpling.

Chen Wen extended his hand, pointing at the glutinous rice: ”I’ll help you remove these, take your time eating.”

The honey buzzard immediately agreed and made room.

Once the glutinous rice was removed, it quickly pounced on the dumpling leaves and devoured them.

About five minutes later, the honey buzzard finished eating.

Flapping its wings, it said, ”Delicious! Thank you! Bye-bye!”

Seeing the honey buzzard about to leave, Chen Wen wasn’t having it.

You, little one, ate my stuff and want to leave just like that?

I won’t allow it!

Chen Wen immediately enticed, ”Do you want more honey? Just like what you just ate? I can give you lots and lots!”

The honey buzzard’s wing flapping paused; the temptation was too great for it.

Without any hesitation, it bounced around, expressing its excitement: ”Where? I want to eat!”

Chen Wen stretched out his hand, calming the honey buzzard’s emotions: ”Don’t rush, there’s plenty of honey, but I need to go out to find it for you. I don’t have that much honey right now.”

Oh...

The honey buzzard felt a bit disappointed but quickly asked, ”When are you going out then?”

”Very soon, in a few days.”

Chen Wen fibbed, ”If you want to eat, you can follow me these days. How does that sound? There will be not only food but also a cozy place to nest, just like this one.”

”Okay!”

The honey buzzard decisively agreed.

All-inclusive food and shelter are conditions hard for wild animals to resist.

At this point, the honey buzzard also discovered the system’s request.

It curiously looked at Chen Wen, choosing to share its abilities and gain wisdom from Chen Wen.

Chen Wen once again received a message.

[You have gained the approval of a friend. Please extract the entry prepared for you by your friend]

[Your friend—the honey buzzard—has prepared a gift for you]

[Extracting... extraction complete!]

[Please select one of the following three entries]

[Feather Armor (Gold): You can actively turn feathers into an impenetrable armor that most insects, especially bees, cannot bore through]

[Note: To eat delicious food, you need a suit of feathers, here you go! — Honey Buzzard]

[Glide (Purple): While gliding in the air, you can sense airflow more acutely, extending the distance and time of your glide]

[Note: I suggest flying while gliding~ — Honey Buzzard]

[Occasional Migrant (Purple): When the resources at your survival location are in short supply, you will tend to migrate with seasonal changes. When migrating, your endurance and stamina will be enhanced]

[Note: Let’s go, we can find more delicious food! — Honey Buzzard]

This entry, I must choose [Feather Armor]!

After choosing, Chen Wen decisively activated [Feather Armor].

He removed [Disguise]; the feather entry that had been activated underwent a dramatic change.

The feathers on Chen Wen, originally from a Snowy Owl, though dense, were quite soft.

But now, these feathers seemed to be fixed in place with mousse, tightly forming an impenetrable coat of armor for Chen Wen.

Chen Wen immediately realized the ingenious use of this entry.

He went to a tree nearby, indicating for the bobcat to shake the leaves.

Pattering rainwater dripped down, but Chen Wen didn’t feel a drop on his skin.

On the contrary, the rainwater slid off Chen Wen’s feathers, falling to the ground.

What a divine skill!

With a firm grasp, Chen Wen pulled off his raincoat.

Now he didn’t need a raincoat to stay dry.

Perhaps soaking in water for a long time might let water seep into his skin, but facing a downpour on land, Chen Wen was fearless!

The bobcat jumped down from the tree, quite curious about Chen Wen in this form.

The honey buzzard, noticing the bobcat, was also full of curiosity.

It hadn’t seen this kind of animal before.

Seeing this, Chen Wen simply activated the honey buzzard’s communication ability, allowing the two animals to chat with each other.

But just when Chen Wen was about to close the system, he suddenly discovered another message in the system.

[Current animal friends count is ten, activating animal friends section]

A cartoonish avatar of a Snowy Owl suddenly appeared at the upper right of the system.

[Current animal friends count: Ten]

[Including: Giant Pacific Octopus (deceased), Snowy Owl, Bobcat, Golden Eagle, Canadian Lynx (Blackened), Snowy Owl, Northeast Tiger, Hippopotamus, African Leopard, Honey Buzzard]

[Identifying special animals: At the moment of communication, animals with intense emotions and distinct personalities are special animals]

[Marking special animals: When an animal’s emotions fluctuate greatly, or when encountering an animal with a distinct personality, a mark will be formed]

Staring at the text listed, Chen Wen was lost in thought for a long time.

So that’s how it is; special animals are identified this way.

Chen Wen immediately reviewed the emotions and personalities of his animal friends.

The Giant Pacific Octopus exhibited curiosity, the Snowy Owl was sad, the Bobcat was angry, the Golden Eagle was fearful, and the Canadian Lynx also shared this fear, the Snowy Owl was furious, the Northeast Tiger was grateful, the Hippopotamus was irritable, the African Leopard was timid, and the Honey Buzzard was gluttonous.

Chen Wen compared these with his memories one by one and found it to be accurate!

The Giant Pacific Octopus displayed curiosity when interacting with him, counting as personality.

The Snowy Owl came to him when it had just lost its home, deeply sad, counting as emotion.

It was the same with other animals when they interacted with him.

So, this is how special animals are identified.

Chen Wen thought.

However, the system’s new feature made it much easier to find special animals in the future.

Very nice, indeed!

Chen Wen closed the system, first bestowing an Animal Doctor buff on the honey buzzard, then quickly said, ”Let’s go, we have more important things to attend to.”

Upon hearing this, the honey buzzard spread its wings and asked, ”Do you need my help, my friend?”

”Of course, my friend!”
