Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 488: Chapter 37: Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape

Liu Hong’s confusion was unknown to everyone else.

At this moment, Xavier was also eagerly anticipating tomorrow’s arrival.

He knew very well that if he could successfully transport the animals back this time, the greatest gain for him wouldn’t be money.

But status.

After this event, he would become the organization’s most important pawn in Hua Country!

No one would be able to shake his position!

Xavier’s inflated ambition made him fail to notice an unexpected guest arriving outside the camp.

Chen Wen once again arrived near the poachers’ camp.

He observed the poachers fall into a familiar yet eerie atmosphere and took the opportunity to get closer.

Attempting to find a way to rescue Yan Bian and the others, and control this group of poachers.

But after observing for a long time, Chen Wen still couldn’t come up with a viable plan.

The poachers’ camp setup was orderly.

They placed the captured animals, which could easily make noises, on the perimeter.

These animals, once caught, were highly tense and would make sounds at any slight approach.

Yan Bian and the other two, along with the remaining three travelers, were arranged closer to the camp’s interior.

The four poachers were positioned in the most central area.

This camp setup meant that any approaching animals or humans wouldn’t reach near the camp before being discovered by the animals and exposed.

This also allowed the poachers more time to react.

The main concern about attacking now was that all of one’s methods would be seen by Yan Bian and the others.

Chen Wen did not want to expose his abilities.

He watched as a few people started cooking.

He took a deep breath and retreated slowly.

Tonight is not a suitable time for an attack.

...

Returning to the cave.

Without fire, Chen Wen and Liu Ting simply ate some cold food and convenience items.

Chen Wen trusted Liu Ting, but not to the level of discussing plans with her.

So, after a few casual chats, Chen Wen went to the cave entrance.

Leaning against the cave wall, he began to rest.

Liu Ting saw Chen Wen’s actions and didn’t say much.

She tidied the ground inside, mainly clearing away fallen leaves and branches.

The other animals were either resting or out foraging.

This surprised Liu Ting quite a bit.

Chen Wen didn’t impose much restraint on these animals, yet they chose not to leave him.

Truly a remarkable person.

Thinking this, Liu Ting, holding the heater Chen Wen gave her, slowly drifted into sleep.

...

The next morning.

Chen Wen was awakened by a series of unique calls.

He opened his eyes, listening to the sounds outside.

The sounds were similar to birdsong, described with onomatopoeia, as a very crisp wooing sound, with an upward tail.

”This is the call of the Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape.”

Liu Ting, who had woken up at some point inside the cave, spoke with a complex expression, ”This is the Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape group they’ve been pursuing. One male and two females, escaped from a large group. They’ve also raised a young gibbon, which was captured by them and is currently confined near the camp. This is the juvenile gibbon’s call.”

”They’re probably intending to use the juvenile gibbon’s distress calls to capture the adult gibbons, what are you going to do?”

Liu Ting speculated the poachers’ plan and then looked at Chen Wen.

What to do...

Chen Wen left the injured clouded leopard and the oversized wild boar behind since they weren’t useful and could protect Liu Ting.

While he took the bobcat, yellow-throated marten, and crested honey buzzard with him.

”You stay in the cave, don’t come out, or you’ll expose my existence.”

Chen Wen instructed Liu Ting and the nearby wild boar and clouded leopard.

The wild boar and clouded leopard both responded affirmatively.

They stayed to protect and also to monitor.

Liu Ting also agreed.

Chen Wen packed up briefly, taking his hunting knife, and quietly headed towards the source of the calls.

...

Feeling far from the camp, Chen Wen began to assign the plan: ”Desert, you and Huang Feng track those people on the ground and in the trees. Remember, if you find them, call me immediately, don’t engage with them, and don’t even appear in their sight!”

The bobcat murmured a response, indicating it would keep an eye on the yellow-throated marten.

”Greywing, we’re going together to scout from the sky.”

With that said, Chen Wen immediately activated the entries—[Wings (Golden Eagle)], and [Transformation (Western Diamondback Rattlesnake)].

As his body continually changed, a western diamondback rattlesnake with wings appeared before the animals.

In snake form, Chen Wen felt his body’s transformation, momentarily reminded of the feathered serpent god from Mayan Civilization legends.

The feathered serpent god is generally depicted as a snake covered in feathers.

The only difference between himself and the feathered serpent god now might be the size of the body, right?

Chen Wen chose not to activate [Gigantification] to minimize being a target.

He suddenly hypothesized, could the legendary feathered serpent god be a druid with golden [Gigantification], snake-like transformation, and feathered organs?

However, he knew nothing about the origin of druids, as it was too mysterious.

After spending a minute adapting to his current body, feathered serpent form Chen Wen and the crested honey buzzard took to the sky together.

On the ground, led by the bobcat, the yellow-throated marten followed, searching for signs of the poachers.

...

Five minutes later.

Chen Wen didn’t find the poachers but did find the poachers’ target—the Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape.

This was Chen Wen’s first time seeing such a rare animal.

They came in two colors, one with pure black fur, only having some white hair on either side of the cheeks.

According to Liu Ting, this type of gibbon was male.

Among the gibbons present, there was only one male.

The other type had light brown fur and some yellow.

This type was female.

They had a tuft of black hair on their heads with some black spots on their chest and back.

This group had two females.

”One male and two females, a typical small-scale group.”

Chen Wen noticed the male Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape’s current emotion was anxiety, indicating it was a special animal.

He directly had the crested honey buzzard land with him beside the gibbons.

This group of Western Black-crowned Long-armed Apes, attracted by the calls of their young, anxiously searched for their young’s location.

Feeling something suddenly land nearby, they immediately became tense.

But upon seeing it was just a crested honey buzzard and a peculiar snake, the gibbons didn’t flee.

Instead, they cautiously observed the feathered serpent form Chen Wen, emitting a series of low, booming coos.

”Hello.”

Without wasting words, Chen Wen directly unlocked the intelligence of the male Western Black-crowned Long-armed Ape.

As the group’s leader, the male gibbon reacted quickly.

Upon gaining intelligence, it instinctively withdrew slightly with its two mates.

This group of gibbons moved quite agilely atop the trees.

Their arms, twice the length of their bodies, grasped branches, allowing them to quickly relocate to a distance.

”What are you?”

The male gibbon’s voice was steady, resembling that of a middle-aged man.

But looking at the feathered serpent form Chen Wen, it was still somewhat shocked.

”I am human, but a rather special kind of human.”

Chen Wen said.

The crested honey buzzard beside him quickly vouched for him, asserting that Chen Wen was a very kind human.

Hearing this, the gibbon began to trust Chen Wen more.

It said, ”As long as you don’t harm me, I won’t harm you, but now, please step aside, I must save my child.”

Hearing this, Chen Wen immediately interjected, ”Don’t rush, you must save your child, but there’s a trap ahead. If you go, not only won’t you save your child, but you three will also be captured.”

These words made the gibbon skeptical.
