Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 458: Chapter 7: Refusal

It quickly reached noon.

Chen Wen arrived at the supply distribution center and received a bucket of instant noodles, bread, hot dogs, and marinated eggs from the locals.

After soaking the instant noodles, Chen Wen carried the bucket to the edge of the camp.

The rain had stopped, and the air was very fresh. Sitting outside and eating instant noodles, Chen Wen felt his mood improve significantly.

However, before he could eat a few bites, the sound of footsteps came from behind.

Chen Wen thought it was Wang Zhi coming over, but when the footsteps stopped, it was a youthful and unfamiliar voice: ”Are you Chen Wen?”

Chen Wen turned around to find a dark-skinned young man holding the same food.

”Hello, who are you?”

”I’m a local guide who was recruited by the big boss before, to see if I could help here.”

Surprised, Chen Wen glanced at the young man and asked, ”How old are you?”

”Twenty.”

Seeing the young man standing while talking, Chen Wen moved aside on the curb where he had been sitting and said, ”Sit down, is there something you want to talk to me about?”

The young man sat next to Chen Wen somewhat shyly, picking at the dead skin on his fingertips: ”I used to really like your show and admired you a lot, so I just wanted to have a chat, if that’s okay?”

A fan!

Chen Wen felt a bit emotional.

He couldn’t believe he had fans!

It seemed to be his first time talking to a fan.

”Hehe, of course,” Chen Wen said with a smile. ”What do you want to talk about? Feel free to chat while eating.”

The young man relaxed considerably upon seeing Chen Wen’s easygoing demeanor.

He said, ”I heard you say this morning that you plan to enter the restricted area?”

”That’s right.”

Chen Wen nodded.

Upon hearing this, the young man swallowed the food in his mouth and said, ”It’s really dangerous. Aren’t you afraid?”

”To say there’s no fear at all would be impossible.”

Chen Wen said, ”After all, the situation in the mountains is completely unfamiliar, and all kinds of dangers could occur at any time. Anyone would be afraid.”

The young man hesitated, looking at Chen Wen, feeling that this idol didn’t quite match the image he had in mind: ”If you’re scared, then why go in?”

”Because there are always things that can overcome fear.”

Chen Wen smiled and continued eating.

The presence of ”voracious appetite” required Chen Wen to keep himself well-fed to gain the perks.

The young man stalled a bit in his eating.

He seemed to be pondering over the words.

But after a moment, he shook his head: ”I haven’t encountered anything that can overcome fear yet.”

”You’re very fortunate.”

Chen Wen said with a smile.

The young man smiled too.

At this point, the young man seemed to remember something.

He pulled out two sticky rice dumplings from the satchel he carried and handed one to Chen Wen.

”This is a food we like to carry when entering the mountains, honey rice dumpling, with glutinous rice on the outside and red sugar and dates inside. After it’s cooked, we peel it open and add honey. It’s very filling.”

Listening to the young man’s description, Chen Wen couldn’t help but say, ”It’s indeed filling.”

Not to mention the glutinous rice, red sugar, dates, and honey were all high-calorie foods.

This dumpling is excellent outdoor food, as long as you’re not overwhelmed by the sweetness.

Although Chen Wen didn’t plan to take it, the young man genuinely offered it.

He mentioned that his father was also here in the search and rescue team, providing support, as the one riding the motorcycle.

His father would return for lunch at noon and bring more honey rice dumplings in the afternoon.

Chen Wen finally accepted it.

After the two chatted about various trivial matters.

The meal was almost over.

Chen Wen intended to say goodbye to the young man, but he spoke again: ”By the way, it’s been raining recently. If you enter the mountains and see clouds moving quickly, be cautious.”

”My dad used to tell me, fast-moving clouds mean heavy rain.”

Hearing the young man’s advice, Chen Wen nodded, keeping it in mind: ”Thank you! I’ll remember!”

...

Returned to the tent to rest in the afternoon.

Around three o’clock.

Suddenly, the sound of thudding filled the sky.

Chen Wen was taken aback, then quickly rushed out of the tent.

Outside, as expected, a military helicopter hovered above the camp.

Family and staff from the camp walked out of their tents, eyes filled with hope, gazing at the helicopter in the sky.

Swish.

The helicopter’s cabin door opened, and a rope descended from above.

Everyone watched the swaying rope tensely, and the next second, a group of soldiers wearing training uniforms rapidly descended along the rope.

”Rope descent.”

A police officer couldn’t hold back and said: ”They’re so skilled, just like ordinary folks getting out of a car!”

As he said, the soldiers were very familiar with rope descending.

They grabbed the rope with one hand and controlled their balance with the other, jumping from the cabin door in order, pulling the rope to land steadily.

Professional, sharp!

Even though this group of soldiers didn’t say a word, it inspired admiration and trust from the bottom of everyone’s hearts.

Only they could bring back the eight people trapped deep in the mountains!

Thirteen people descended from the helicopter in total.

After landing, they promptly lined up neatly, accompanied by the sound of numbers being reported. Xu Yong walked out alongside them.

From the thirteen, one quickly stepped up to Xu Yong and reported loudly: ”Report! Commander, sir! Temporary rescue team, all thirteen personnel present. Await your orders!”

Xu Yong saluted: ”Rest for ten minutes, then depart!”

”Yes!”

The soldier turned to the other twelve people: ”Rest in place!”

After seeing the twelve of them crouch down to rest, this soldier was invited into the tent by Xu Yong.

Liu Yu, following at the rear, signaled to Chen Wen to follow along, which he did immediately.

...

Inside the tent, Xu Yong handed over the pre-prepared information and data to the soldier: ”These are all the documents we’ve compiled. Everything is here, including the details of the trapped individuals, footprints from early reconnaissance, and some information about Ailao Mountain.”

Hearing this, the soldier expressed his gratitude: ”Alright, I’ll have them look over it shortly.”

The two further communicated regarding the equipment; the police specially prepared some gear for the military based on the conditions of Ailao Mountain.

The soldier expressed gratitude again.

Everything that needed to be transferred was completed.

Xu Yong solemnly said: ”This time, it’s up to you!”

The soldier saluted immediately: ”We guarantee mission completion!”

Upon hearing this, Xu Yong finally breathed a sigh of relief.

After relaxing, he pointed to Chen Wen who had just come in and said: ”By the way, we have an expert here, skilled in wilderness survival, your team might need...”

Before Xu Yong could finish, the soldier interrupted: ”Commander, sir, our temporary rescue team is currently fully staffed and each member has their own specialties; we don’t need external assistance.”

Xu Yong was taken aback, feeling a bit helpless.

He looked at Chen Wen and said: ”Chen Wen, go ahead.”

Eager to speak, Chen Wen immediately stepped forward. Facing the soldier’s intense gaze, he resolutely said: ”Please allow me to join! I am skilled in wilderness survival and extremely proficient in...”

The soldier didn’t give Chen Wen a chance to finish but interrupted him: ”Comrade, hello! We don’t need external assistance!”

Chen Wen, unwilling to give up, said: ”I also have an animal capable of tracking...”

”We have a military dog with us, it’s highly proficient in search and rescue, has retrieved many lost travelers in the wild mountains, and has been awarded two third-class merits as a heroic dog.”

The soldier interrupted Chen Wen again.

Having said that, he looked at Xu Yong: ”Commander, sir! Time is life! I believe our troops are ready, requesting departure!”

Xu Yong, helpless, looked at Chen Wen and said: ”Permission granted to depart!”

”Yes!”
