Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 456: Chapter 5: A Failed Attempt

After a brief discussion, Chen Wen was taken to the tent to rest.

Perhaps to prevent Chen Wen from escaping in the dark, his bed was arranged inside the tent, while Wang Zhi was outside.

His bed was right by the entrance.

Lying on the bed, listening to the sound of rain hitting the tent, Chen Wen slowly fell asleep.

Early the next morning.

It’s the sixth day since Yan Bian and his team went missing.

Chen Wen was woken up by a series of noisy sounds.

He had just sat up when he saw Wang Zhi rushing in anxiously.

”What’s going on?”

Seeing Wang Zhi’s hurried appearance, Chen Wen asked.

Wang Zhi handed a portion of congee, steamed buns, sausages, and pickled vegetables to Chen Wen and then said, ”Something’s happened.”

”Remember those family members? We’ve been slow to organize a rescue team, and the family members are losing patience. They caused a commotion this morning and are on their way here to apply pressure.”

”The families over there can’t be persuaded, and we are currently trying to have yesterday’s organized rescue team enter the restricted zone to check the outer situation.”

Hearing this, Chen Wen was somewhat helpless: ”The situation is too complicated and requires careful handling. Stirring up trouble now is purely adding to the chaos!”

Saying this, he casually fed a sausage to the bobcat.

The bobcat sniffed it, then started eating it voraciously.

But it only ate half and then told Chen Wen, ”I went hunting outside this morning and ate a few mice. This is enough.”

Chen Wen nodded slightly.

At this moment, Chen Wen noticed a bus arriving outside.

”This is the park’s bus. There’s another road it can drive on, but it was blocked by landslides before. It seems to have been cleared now.”

Wang Zhi was very familiar with the situation in the park here.

He had been following Chen Wen to keep him informed about the situation.

Chen Wen nodded slightly.

Noticing that the bus was loaded with supplies, the people around immediately went to transport the supplies.

The bus driver kept urging, saying, ”Hurry up, I need to go back and bring more people. Those family members refuse to return, and it’s still raining. The supervisor is afraid they’ll get drenched and fall ill.”

Upon hearing this, the people around moved even faster.

After eating, Chen Wen went to Lv Guocheng to wait for news.

One was news from the rescue team, and the other was news from the military.

Seeing Chen Wen carrying the bobcat enter, Lv Guocheng was a little surprised: ”What’s this...”

”Rescue cat.”

Chen Wen patted the bobcat and said, ”It’s more adapted to areas with extreme temperature differences and can also handle humid forests, so I brought it along.”

A rescue cat?

Lv Guocheng’s lips twitched, with a look of disbelief as if young people were trying to deceive an old man.

To make Lv Guocheng believe, Chen Wen immediately commanded, ”Desert, go, bring over the sausage on the table.”

With Chen Wen’s command, the bobcat immediately jumped onto the table, elegantly grabbed the sausage under Lv Guocheng’s nervous gaze, and jumped onto Chen Wen’s lap.

Waving the sausage, Chen Wen asked, ”How about that?”

”Impressive! It can understand like a normal dog. By the way, why is it called Desert?”

Hearing this, Chen Wen was also feeling helpless.

He too wanted to know the answer to that question.

Previously, he let the animals choose their own names, which were initially peculiar and unsuitable.

But later, the animals did actually come up with some good names.

Currently, the bobcat is called Desert, meaning the boss of the Sonora Desert.

The little owl was named Little Grey Princess by Jiang Xue and doesn’t plan to change it.

The Golden Eagle and Snowy Owl discussed and chose their names based on feather colors, one called Golden Wing, the other Silver Wing.

The Cinnamon-winged Hawk was named Cinnamon Wing by the two.

The Canadian Lynx wanted to join, calling itself Black Wing, but was rejected by the Golden Eagle and the Snowy Owl.

Because the Canadian Lynx doesn’t have wings.

Eventually, the Canadian Lynx was renamed Shadow, which Chen Wen helped to come up with.

”Let’s not talk about the names now. When does the military arrive?”

Chen Wen shifted the topic.

”Noon.”

The two chatted as they waited.

...

Two hours later, Liu Yu also arrived.

Chen Wen was about to ask about his application to join the military rescue team when Liu Yu, looking a bit dejected, said, ”The rescue team organized last night returned, and the news isn’t good!”

”They didn’t go far before someone almost fell off a cliff due to the slippery ground. Not much further, another person was bitten by a bamboo pit viper hidden in the bushes, and they just returned.”

This news left everyone shocked and somewhat flustered.

If the professional rescue team encountered such issues not far into their mission, what about Yan Bian and his team?

Everyone didn’t dare speculate further.

Meanwhile, Wang Zhi couldn’t help but glance at Chen Wen, a bit amazed.

Chen Wen had doubted the rescue team since its formation.

Could it be that Chen Wen was highly skilled in rescue operations?

Unbeknownst to them, Chen Wen’s judgment was entirely based on his knowledge of the Ailao Mountain terrain.

This kind of terrain isn’t suitable for large-scale search operations; only small teams probing is appropriate.

”It’s a tough situation!”

Leaning against a chair, Liu Yu sighed, ”Oh, and Chen Wen, as expected, your application was rejected.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen’s expression darkened.

He began considering other options in his mind.

However, as Chen Wen pondered, the sound of vehicles approached, and the bus returned with the family members.

...

When the families arrived, the camp immediately descended into chaos.

There were cries, shouts, and angry curses.

Liu Yu and Lv Guocheng quickly stepped out of the tent to assist the police in calming everyone down.

As the initial organizer of the team, Lv Guocheng’s presence held sway, and many family members restrained themselves upon seeing him.

Chen Wen and his team noticed Yan Bian’s wife, children, and parents had arrived, and they hurried over.

Though chaotic, through everyone’s efforts, the disorder was somewhat alleviated.

However, Yan Bian’s wife was now overwhelmed with grief. She grabbed Chen Wen and asked, ”Chen, I ask you one question, tell me truthfully.”

”This morning, was a rescue team sent out? Did they not go far before several were injured and returned?”

Chen Wen looked around awkwardly, silently cursing whoever revealed this information.

He had only just learned about it himself!

Seeing Chen Wen’s expression, Yan Bian’s wife’s tears began to flow profusely.

Her voice was filled with lament, ”I knew it! I just knew it! Old Yan, this time... Chen, tell me, will he come back?”

Hearing this, Chen Wen felt he had to say something.

He immediately put on a solemn expression and said, ”Rest assured, he will definitely return!”

The firm and forceful words drew attention from the surrounding people.

Some family members recognized Chen Wen, as his face held some recognition domestically.

After all, Chen Wen was once labeled by many media outlets as the modern-day Robinson Crusoe.

Seeing the once-castaway Chen Wen confidently say this, some family members felt a glimmer of hope.

They gathered around, asking Chen Wen about the chances of survival this time, when a new rescue team would be dispatched, and who the members of the new team would be.

All the chatter left Chen Wen a bit overwhelmed.

Reluctantly, Chen Wen raised his hand, signaling everyone to quiet down.

He thought for a moment, choosing not to say empty words or platitudes, and said directly, ”They will definitely return! The rescue team is being organized and consists of elites!”

At this moment, one hopeful family member asked, ”Will you join them?”

Chen Wen nodded instinctively, saying, ”I will, even if I’m the only one, I will go into the rescue!”

Just after saying this, Chen Wen realized it might not have been appropriate.

Sure enough, after hearing this, the expressions of the staff responsible for maintaining order changed slightly.
