System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Professor Tong’s side is advancing much faster.”

Chen Song retorted, ”Amputation is fine and all, but can we just hack at the model any way we like?”

”If you don’t believe me, let Tong Yuan’an and his team try making a damage model themselves.”

Lu Cheng’s question was indeed a bit unprofessional. He was in the research field but only partially understood it—out of the novice stage, but not fully initiated.

”Teacher Chen, don’t be anxious. This project can be worked on slowly. If it’s really not feasible, we can first discuss the differences between spleen suturing and liver organ suturing.”

”Spleen Preservation Surgery is a supplement to Spleen Removal Surgery, but Liver Preservation Surgery is definitely the core surgery in general surgery.” Lu Cheng suddenly said.

Chen Song scolded, ”Lu Cheng, don’t cause me trouble.”

”Things should be done one at a time, meals eaten bite by bite. I know you’re awesome, taking advantage of the booming times in hand surgery and general surgery. You’re very good at improving suturing techniques.”

”But that’s not how you tackle a topic. Don’t think about eating seafood when you haven’t even got breakfast sorted.”

Chen Song’s doctoral and master’s students trembled, not daring to speak. They watched helplessly as Lu Cheng and their teacher exchanged words back and forth.

After Chen Song finished scolding, his doctoral student Tao Shibin suggested, ”Master, Teacher Lu, how about we take a break and chat tomorrow?”

”We’re stuck at this step, and continuing to wrangle over it isn’t meaningful.”

Chen Song waved his hand, ”Let’s leave it at that for now.”

”Tao Shibin, you also check with your classmates to see if anyone specializes in animal experiment models, and bring them over.”

”In our time, there wasn’t even a specialized group for this.”

Lu Cheng: ”...”

...

The next day, Lu Cheng arrived at the hospital early, starting the normal rounds as usual!

Tian Zhuang’s shift in the ward during the day was very diligent, following behind Lu Cheng, recording all kinds of detailed information, including but not limited to medical orders and test results.

Just after the rounds, Lu Cheng noticed that Tian Zhuang had already prepared coffee, drinks, and snacks.

Lu Cheng was quite surprised. Previously, it took Tian Zhuang a long time to learn how to prepare coffee and drinks.

Tian Zhuang was still quite blunt and direct, ”Brother Lu, it was Brother Zhang who told me you liked these.”

”I’m going to write the medical records, take your time eating.”

”Got money now?” Lu Cheng joked with Tian Zhuang.

Upon hearing this, Tian Zhuang replied hesitantly, ”Brother Lu, Brother Zhang said that if you were to teach, each lesson would cost tens of thousands. I don’t have that kind of money.”

”I’ll come find you once I’ve saved enough!”

Lu Cheng became more certain. People are as courageous as they feel. Previously, it wasn’t that Tian Zhuang didn’t care about human relationships, but his finances were all tied up by his family.

With no money and little scheming, he could only passively be a straightforward ”boy.” ”No need for money. Just make sure none of your brothers come to trouble me.”

Tian Zhuang said, ”They won’t, Brother Lu.”

”Both of them, one just got out not long ago, and the other sold his house. They are both looking for jobs now.”

Hearing the hint of desolation in Tian Zhuang’s voice, Lu Cheng consoled, ”Tian Zhuang, they’re older than you. At their age, unless they’re second-generation wealthy, it’s expected to work. It’s not because of you.”

”Aren’t you earning by working?”

Tian Zhuang’s tone suggested that his brothers going to work seemed pitiable to him.

Tian Zhuang nodded, ”Brother Lu, I’m off to write the medical records. My performance bonus last month was more than before!”

After learning tendon suturing, although Tian Zhuang hadn’t fully mastered all tendon suturing techniques, his performance bonus division was definitely higher than before.

The more you work, the more you earn!

Lu Cheng then sat in the doctor’s lounge and just as he was opening a textbook on general surgery, his phone chimed with a message.

It was a message from Xie Yuan’an. She had already finished drawing lots, and the first event she would participate in was the spleen suturing track, in the second group. On the tendon suturing track, she made it into the sixth group.

Meanwhile, Tong Yuan’an actively shared with Lu Cheng the grouping information of Han Yunshen and others as they came in.

Xie Yuan’an suddenly said, ”Lu Cheng, I’m quite disappointed. It seems both Tan Guangbo and Liu Chan didn’t make it to the national competition.”

”I asked around for their names, but no one recognized them.”

Lu Cheng: ”???”

”Did you investigate me?”

Tan Guangbo and Liu Chan are names known to very few in relation to Lu Cheng.

They were two friends who entered the master’s assessment the same year as Lu Cheng.

”Mu Nanshu told me. I directly asked her to investigate.”

”But I also found out another piece of information. Are you interested in hearing it?” Xie Yuan’an was being quite gossip-prone.

With nothing else to do, Lu Cheng said, ”Go on.”

”I heard one of your bros is having trouble even graduating. Does that make you happy?”

Xie Yuan’an sent over an emoji with a microphone interview.

”Not interested,” Lu Cheng replied.

Lu Cheng didn’t think much of it. There are plenty of doctoral and master’s students who can’t graduate promptly. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not competent. Some might have the wrong plans during their doctoral studies and face delayed graduation.

After all, if you tackle a high-difficulty topic right from the start, it’s possible to have no thesis output by graduation, failing to meet graduation requirements.

”You’re being quite boring,” Xie Yuan’an seemed a bit let down.

”Truly not interested. They, no matter what, at least went through the process of studying, which I didn’t have.”

”Even if they end up graduating late, they’ll likely still earn their degree, while I’m just the same ordinary person,” Lu Cheng said.

”That’s true.”

Xie Yuan’an continued, ”But you’re not ordinary. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have easily made it to the semifinals at my age.”

”Tan Guangbo is in trauma surgery and is currently delayed. Not making it to the national competition is understandable. Liu Chan is in hand surgery, and he’s already graduated, yet he didn’t compete. It seems Huashan Hospital isn’t as legendary as rumored.”

Lu Cheng: ”...”

There’s legends everywhere, but more often than not, it’s just ordinary people.
