”Yeah, that’s right, uncle, in your situation, you need to continue immobilizing for at least half a month after reduction.”

”Not a day less! Or it’ll easily dislocate again.” Lu Cheng said calmly.

Standing opposite Lu Cheng was a middle-aged man in his forties, slightly chubby but with a small face, whose eyes were darting around: ”Dr. Lu, after the reduction, I still can’t move?”

”Are you saying that because the reduction wasn’t done well?” His face was full of wariness.

Lu Cheng’s Adam’s apple moved up and down as he patiently explained, ”Uncle, if the reduction wasn’t done well, I would have taken you straight into the operating room for surgical reduction.”

”Manual reduction is one of the treatment options, and after joint dislocation, it’s not like you can resume normal movement right after reduction.”

The middle-aged man said, ”But I’ve seen online, in many videos, once the reduction is done, the kids stop crying immediately and can move normally... So, with your reduction, I can’t move?”

Lu Cheng patted his right elbow joint with his left hand, ”Uncle, to be more professional, the joint dislocations you saw online are radial head subluxations, a common type in children.”

”Your dislocation is an anterior shoulder dislocation. Have you ever seen videos of shoulder joint manual reductions?”

”In those videos, do the doctors also tell the patients they can immediately start moving?”

Radial head subluxation is one of the simplest joint dislocations, and the reduction is quick, something almost any orthopedic doctor can handle.

Such dislocations are diagnosed even without relying on imaging examinations.

”I haven’t really seen those.” The small-headed man shook his head.

”Exactly, your joint is already dislocated, meaning the soft tissue is damaged during the dislocation process.”

”The dislocation is reduced, but the soft tissue damage can’t recover immediately, so isn’t it possible for the joint to slip out again from the previous gap?”

”Let me give you an example, if you’re wearing a pair of shoes where the heel slips easily, unless you repair or sew them up, they’ll continue to slip.”

”That’s similar to the state of your joint’s soft tissue now, but unlike shoes, our body’s soft tissue can naturally recover.”

”That’s why you need rest.”

The middle-aged man was still wary, ”Are you sure it’s not because your reduction failed? I’ve seen many people online saying hospitals easily shirk responsibility.”

”Can you guarantee there’s nothing wrong with your manual reduction?”

”I can guarantee it. There’s no problem with my manual reduction operation, and the postoperative X-ray check results can confirm this.”

Lu Cheng continued, ”I also need to make it clear to you that even though your situation has been treated, you still need to remain immobilized for at least half a month for recovery.”

”And after half a month, you need to come back for a recheck to determine if movement is possible based on the specific situation.”

”If, during this process, you don’t follow medical advice and over-recover on your own, any resulting re-dislocation will have nothing to do with my treatment.”

”Normal people’s joints can get dislocated, so how can your injured joint be compared to a normal one?”

The small-headed man sensed Lu Cheng was getting a bit angry and said, ”Doctor, I don’t really understand all this.”

Lu Cheng nodded and replied, ”I know you don’t understand, which is why I’m telling you all of this. If you don’t understand, you don’t have to pretend you do.”

”As for the swelling and pain relief medication, you’re free to choose not to take them. You can buy them outside or later when the pain becomes unbearable, that’s fine too.”

”I’ve written down the names and instructions for the medication for you.”

”Do you have any other questions?” Faced with people who have a harmful view of medical staff, Lu Cheng decided to be straightforward.

These people generally believe that medical staff are only in it for the money, and whatever you suggest, they think it’s about increasing sales.

If you say anything negative, they suspect your treatment is problematic.

Faced with such individuals, Lu Cheng’s usual approach is to let them decide whether to buy the medication or not.

”Okay, Dr. Lu, I’ll buy them later.” The middle-aged man picked up his medical record book and was about to leave.

”Wait a moment, let me print out an electronic medical record for you and stick it on.” Lu Cheng smiled.

The medical record book can be lost, but the electronic medical record will always be archived on the computer.

Lu Cheng wrote the electronic medical record, even if not given to the patient, it served as proof that Lu Cheng had fulfilled his duty to inform.

Of course, Lu Cheng wouldn’t treat patients as ”enemies” to guard against, but a little caution doesn’t hurt, given the current poor medical environment.

Many people come to the hospital trying to act superior after facing frustrations in society.

…

After finally sending off the rare troublesome patient, Lu Cheng washed his hands and walked back into the emergency room.

Zeng Huanqi, who was on duty in the emergency room, naturally knew about this difficult patient, ”How was it? Is he gone?”

Lu Cheng nodded, ”Yes, he’s gone. He’s just a more careful and cautious patient.”

”He even just went to the internal medicine department, probably trying to find someone to confirm if there was a problem with your treatment.”

Zeng Huanqi said, ”At this critical moment, you still need to be cautious. If the patient is too troublesome, just let them go to orthopedics and deal with it...”

Lu Cheng said, ”Brother Zeng, there are very few people like that. If they’re really unreasonable, they usually dig traps for you even before the treatment begins; such people can be ignored.”

Zeng Huanqi looked at Lu Cheng with interest, ”Actually, Xiao Lu, at this point, why bother being so concerned?”
