System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”There are no weekdays in the Emergency Department, Director Xiao, you might as well say no one is allowed to drink.”

”Speaking of weekdays, it’s the weekend today. Is our department closed and on break?” Tian Zhiliang had a strong sense of sass, and his voice was very loud.

Xiao Zhaoxi didn’t feel like debating these topics. As the hospital operates beyond labor laws, only those in the field understand the length of work hours: ”Director Tian, let Lu Cheng start with you.”

”Anyway, according to the rules, he needs to follow a deputy high-level physician like you the whole time on duty.”

”Just be responsible for the grading when the time comes.”

Tian Zhiliang laughed: ”No problem, I can give any score, I can do it right now.”

Lu Cheng is the only one being assessed as an apprentice, giving him a score of sixty or seventy is decent and not outrageous.

Besides, it’s just Lu Cheng competing on his own.

This is called exclusive enjoyment.

...

Of course, Lu Cheng not only found his apprenticeship assessment going very smoothly, but shortly after he reported for the follow-up assessment, he discovered he had an extra meal card.

This was directly obtained by Xiao Zhaoxi from the logistics, with his name already on it. Xiao Zhaoxi handed it to Lu Cheng, then handed over his own meal card, saying, ”Xiao Lu, take this meal card first, but don’t use it yet. You can use my card.”

”While it’s not necessary to sweat the small stuff, it’s also not good to act too ostentatiously.”

”We’ve also acquired the work uniforms for you. Although you’re temporarily not on duty, a cabinet in the department is reserved for you.”

”The top left cabinet in the break room is yours, and the fourth cabinet in the office is yours. You can store your personal belongings, toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel, etc.”

Lu Cheng nodded upon hearing this: ”Okay, Director Xiao.”

”Hmm, there’s nothing else, just follow whatever Director Tian is doing.” Xiao Zhaoxi added.

Lu Cheng said: ”Director Xiao, there’s no need for the card. We don’t even have time to eat in the cafeteria. We all order takeout.”

Xiao Zhaoxi hinted: ”Just keep it. You can buy drinks with it. After all, you’re just following, you have free time.”

Hearing that, Lu Cheng immediately understood, and quickly took Xiao Zhaoxi’s card to the downstairs kiosk, bringing back seven or eight bottles of drinks.

Tian Zhiliang saw this and exclaimed: ”Lu Cheng, are you leading us into corrupt actions?”

Lu Cheng replied: ”Director Tian, not quite, just a few drinks can’t be considered corruption. If so, we’re screwed.”

Tian Zhiliang wasn’t really nitpicking over details, he took a bottle of iced coffee and twisted open the cap, calling out: ”Guys, Lu Cheng bought drinks, come and get them yourselves, don’t make me call names.”

The Emergency Department at the State People’s Hospital is much larger than the team at Long County People’s Hospital, with seven or eight doctors on duty at the same time every day.

In total, there are 16 doctors, 31 nurses, and 11 senior positions here, including 1 chief physician and 7 associate chief physicians!

While everyone was getting drinks, Lu Cheng also got to know a few people.

...

”Are you saying that one in the surgery department has an extremely powerful background? The whole surgical team has only him as an apprentice for the assessment, it’s too obviously predetermined, isn’t it?” Nurses at the hospital were gossiping.

For the follow-up assessment at the Emergency Department, there was not only Lu Cheng but also two female doctors and one male doctor from the internal medicine side. Three of them were having ’healthy competition.’

In contrast, Lu Cheng was enjoying himself following Tian Zhiliang, almost to the point of having drinks together for camaraderie.

”I heard that Dr. Lu Cheng’s written exam score was so good, it made the other two feel incapable.”

”His score was thirty or forty points above the second place,” a young nurse said.

Another older nurse exaggerated slightly: ”No way? How could there be such a huge gap, were the questions leaked?”

”I wouldn’t know about that, Sister Zou,” the younger nurse shrugged.

Just as they were discussing, Tian Zhiliang passed by with Lu Cheng, hearing everything clearly. He knocked on the nurse station: ”What are you up to?”

”Didn’t you notice the medical orders? Review them, we need a debridement kit.”

”Director Tian, I’ll get it right away.” The elder nurse quickly put her phone down.

”Hurry up, I thought you were all ready, just chatting here.” Tian Zhiliang’s tone was cold, with a hint of warning.

Lu Cheng remained silent.

After the nurse brought the debridement kit, Tian Zhiliang said: ”Xiao Lu, you’re a mature doctor too. Later, when someone comes in for debridement and suturing, you’re in charge.”

”In our hospital’s Emergency Department, this is our most regular business. The other cases are mostly weird diseases.”

”Like extracting light bulbs and tennis balls,” Tian Zhiliang joked.

Lu Cheng’s eyes flickered, not responding to the joke, but asking: ”For appendicitis and such, our Emergency Department doesn’t handle them?”

Tian Zhiliang replied: ”There are plenty of people in surgery, you can call for a consultation anytime.”

”If we can’t handle it, we won’t get it.”

”This is a true Emergency Department here.”

Tian Zhiliang knew that some county hospitals’ Emergency Departments would compete for surgeries with specialty departments, and even managed to get them.

But the specialty strength at the State People’s Hospital was strong, and the Emergency Department couldn’t compete.

Lu Cheng: ”...”

”Director Tian, when I perform the operation, please watch over it,” Lu Cheng said.

”Alright.” Tian Zhiliang couldn’t completely let go either.

Though he knew Lu Cheng’s surgical skills were high, he was still responsible for mentoring Lu Cheng during the assessment.

Once Lu Cheng started, his actions were swift and skilled.
