System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Didn’t I just tell you that with these selection exams, if others get wind of an insider deal, they’ll look for an excuse against you.”

”If they find out you have a medical dispute, even if they can’t bring you down, they’ll entangle you in trouble.”

”It’s a common tactic in civil service exams, reporting the competition, and if successful, one can smoothly land the job.”

Zeng Huanqi felt Lu Cheng was still a bit naive, having seen too little of society’s dark side.

Zeng Huanqi knew some quite extreme cases, where people would even dig into a competitor’s alma mater, published papers, and such.

They’d even check for any dirt at their previous workplaces.

Lu Cheng should focus on his future for now, doing less could be the safest bet.

”You might not know about others, but you know about Peng Kun’s matter, right?”

”Why is he so bothered now? Isn’t it because Xiang Kuihua found out the paper he published during his master’s was bought?” Zeng Huanqi bluntly pointed out.

Pursuing a master’s requires publishing papers to graduate, and Peng Kun was in an academic program, needing an SCI paper to defend his thesis.

When Director Peng Haibo was around, Xiang Kuihua didn’t want to cause a rift with him.

But as soon as Peng Haibo was taken for investigation, Xiang Kuihua exposed this, clearly having prepared in advance.

Peng Kun, who had an academic advantage, quickly crumbled in such an environment, now only focused on damage control.

Fortunately, Peng Kun should have other elders advising him, knowing to avoid further issues and transfer out of orthopedics to prevent Xiang Kuihua from digging deeper.

He would then find a way to wrap up the previous issues.

”Be prepared for anything, and just be cautious yourself.”

”Falsifying a paper and clinical disputes are different. As long as I’m honest in my work, it shouldn’t be a huge issue.”

”Clinically, as long as I don’t overstep in surgeries or get involved in economic problems, no one would really escalate things that much,” Lu Cheng reassured himself.

If Lu Cheng got disciplined for trying a reduction and failing, then no one would dare attempt manual reduction in the future!

Opting for surgical reduction would only use legal means to hedge risks.

This isn’t what the broader environment desires.

Only overstepping in surgery and economic disputes are firm red lines.

Currently, aside from banners, any other items may fall under ”bribery.”

Other items can be traded again, but banners, marked with names, cannot be resold.

Zeng Huanqi switched topics again: ”Yesterday, when Director Du and I were in surgery, he asked me to let you know that when he’s on duty next time, if there’s a spleen injury, he’d like you to join in.”

”Damn, it’s the first time I’ve seen such a lousy person.”

”I didn’t agree.”

Lu Cheng said, ”I follow my superior’s orders. From his first day, Director Du clearly stated not to cause unnecessary trouble when it’s not my shift, Brother Zeng, you heard that too.”

”You’ll have to testify for me then.”

”Of course!~” Zeng Huanqi nodded.

”Director Du is truly something. He grabs every surgery opportunity. If it’s not my shift, he doesn’t even allow us an appendectomy.”

If he weren’t the director, I’d...” Zeng Huanqi clenched his fist.

Previously, when Lin Qianlong was around, simple surgeries were alternately handled by Zeng Huanqi and Zhang Tiesheng.

Major surgeries were still handled by Lin Qianlong, who naturally had the most lead surgeon bonuses.

Now, even minor surgeries aren’t spared by Du Qiang. His character is unmatched, wanting all money in his pocket, no wonder Du Qiang couldn’t make it in general surgery.

Lu Cheng didn’t respond to Zeng Huanqi’s words because he realized everyone’s perspectives were truly different.

In Lu Cheng’s view, Du Qiang is quite the actor.

Moreover, Du Qiang can get things done. Within a week at the emergency department, Du Qiang managed to keep everything fairly ’organized’, and the number of surgeries wasn’t lacking.

Therefore, for stability’s sake, no one from the hospital bothered Lu Cheng anymore.

Because Du Qiang intentionally limited Lu Cheng’s clinical involvement, and since Tong Yuan’an was holding up in orthopedics, from a leadership perspective, if it came to choosing between Lu Cheng and Du Qiang, Lu Cheng could be the one discarded.

Sure, Lu Cheng had received awards, but in the County Hospital, the rule is whoever can get things done, gets to advance.

Those awards are nothing but vanity.

After all, Lu Cheng hasn’t truly brought substantial benefits to the hospital.

More importantly, Lu Cheng clearly isn’t interested, and nobody shamelessly insists on keeping you here…

The hospital is a public institution, not a private enterprise. No matter how well you perform, Lu Cheng, you can’t bring actual benefits to others.

While continuing to chat with Zeng Huanqi, Lu Cheng learned more about some things.

For instance, the acting dean of Long County People’s Hospital, Zeng Long’an, has gone to the County Health Bureau and the state’s health committee to cry more than once.

The complaint being Long County is remote, economically underdeveloped, unable to offer good treatment to directors, hoping for policy adjustments to improve conditions, otherwise, it’s tough to retain talent under the current situation.

Zeng Long’an also mentioned that Long County’s health standards are extremely underdeveloped, in dire need of more expert team support from provincial hospitals, hoping for preferential treatment in the pairing assistance policy by the state.
