System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Good wine needs no bush’ doesn’t hold true in clinical practice, let alone elsewhere,” Lu Cheng said with a composed expression, uttering these words naturally.

Mu Nanshu’s understanding of clinical practice and medicine wasn’t as deep as Lu Cheng’s; what she knew belonged to the ’mystical and strange’ realm of the research world!

Mu Nanshu wasn’t foolish and could roughly grasp what Lu Cheng was expressing: ”From what you’re saying, it seems you still hold some grievances against your current director?”

”Didn’t you say Director Du was just playing along with you?”

Lu Cheng nodded, ”Playing a role is for outsiders, but after watching, outsiders even believed it.”

”It’s about the situation, not the person.”

”Although Uncle Du is doing these things to solve some troubles for me at the moment, for instance, our previous Director of the Emergency Department, Director Lin Qianlong, has gone to Feng County, yet his troubles still persist.”

”He still has to come back from time to time to resolve some issues.”

”But all this indicates that in the county, as long as you act, everything can be covered up.”

”What the higher-ups see is what’s practical; they don’t consider anything else.”

Mu Nanshu had been in Long County with Lu Cheng for several months, and during this time had seen many things with him.

These things probably happened when Mu Nanshu was in middle and high school, but she would not have focused on them at that time.

In fact, if it weren’t for Lu Cheng working in the county hospital, Mu Nanshu’s attention wouldn’t be drawn either.

Everyone’s field of vision is confined to their own circle; for things outside their circle, even if they know about them, the understanding isn’t particularly deep.

Mu Nanshu said, ”Let’s not think too much about it. Didn’t you say before that such an environment isn’t of your making, so you can’t correct it?”

Lu Cheng replied, ”I thought that way at first too; out of sight, out of mind.”

”But a few days ago...” Lu Cheng hesitated.

”A few days ago, Brother Zhang in our department told me that some patients’ families had asked about this matter.”

”But Brother Zhang also couldn’t do anything; some surgeries just can’t be performed by you, regardless of what you do.”

”Zhang Tiesheng said that although the families were swearing, they didn’t have any other choice.”

”Of course, there’s nothing I can do about such a situation either.”

”Perhaps moving too fast with technology may trap oneself in a moral dilemma.”

”Book Bag, let me ask you, if there’s a patient who died, and you know you could save them but rules and procedures don’t allow you to, and neither do your superiors and leaders, what would you do?”

Mu Nanshu replied without hesitation, ”Adhere to the rules and procedures.”

Lu Cheng later told Mu Nanshu that during the selection exam, he encountered a ’two-faced’ situation where someone leveraged the inspection team’s presence in Xiangzhou to play little tricks.

Just a bit more, and Lu Cheng would have been implicated.

Later, Lu Cheng analyzed that if the inspection team this time was a medical inspection team, they would have professionally addressed the ’out-of-scope practice’ issue, and he and Lin Qianlong would have to confront it head-on.

The reason it passed quietly was because there wasn’t scrutiny from the top, nor probe from below!

If leaders don’t investigate you, and patients and their families don’t report you, nothing extreme would be used against you to achieve procedural justice and ruin you.

Except if there’s a problem!

”If procedures and rules are completed, and for various reasons, you still can’t continue to fulfill your duty to save people?” Lu Cheng questioned again.

”What do you mean?” Mu Nanshu sensed that Lu Cheng’s words had deeper implications.

Lu Cheng said, ”Book Bag, your understanding of technological innovation in clinical practice isn’t thorough; new technology innovation is divided into new surgical techniques and operational optimization.”

”A new surgical technique must go through all the preparatory procedures.”

”But operational optimization doesn’t need to; as long as it’s a deputy chief physician or above, they can optimize it based on their experience as they see fit.”

”For instance, tendon suturing is such a technique in clinical practice. Whatever technique you use to suture a patient, you will have support for it.”

”Similarly, splenic suturing is also one. Splenic suturing is one of the standard procedures, and the current suturing techniques only optimize the original suturing operations.”

Mu Nanshu, after listening, raised her voice, ”Then in such a case, why doesn’t Director Du let you do it?”

”What’s he thinking?”

It means, in part of last month, there was a reason Lu Cheng couldn’t operate, but now that reason doesn’t exist anymore, it’s no longer an ’absolute no.’”

”Director Du said not to draw attention, to remain silent for the sake of silence.”

”Currently, the structure within Renmin Hospital is chaotic; the former dean, Director Peng from orthopedics, and the director of the laboratory department have all received clear replies from the higher-up disciplinary commission.”

”Some non-director senior doctors related to these people were also partially implicated.”

”So, right now in the hospital, almost every department faces a talent shortage; surgeries, treatments, and outpatient visits are all significantly reduced.”

”These figures are something neither the hospital nor the health bureau can allow, so in this situation, any capable doctor seeking a disguised departure won’t be permitted.”

”Take, for instance, Deputy Director Tayama from orthopedics; he also has some economic issues, but he is the only representative of sports medicine in our hospital.”

”He isn’t the department head, so he’s only lightly reprimanded.”

Curiously, Mu Nanshu asked, ”What about Peng Kun from orthopedics?”
