System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”When you’re on the surgery shift, you can see any orthopedic cases, but when someone else is on duty, orthopedics has to handle all orthopedic cases.”

Zeng Huanqi said this and then strangely glanced at Lu Cheng: ”We all suspect whether you have some shady dealings with Xiang Kuihua.”

”Definitely not. Director Xiang probably holds a grudge against me.” Lu Cheng said with a bitter smile.

”That may not be the case. Xiang Kuihua has been quite comfortable recently in Director Dai’s position.” Zeng Huanqi shook his head.

”And he’s not targeting you since taking office, why is that?”

Zeng Huanqi wasn’t specialized in orthopedics; he only knew that Lu Cheng won an award. He didn’t understand the value of the award Lu Cheng received in the competition and didn’t ask for details; he just knew Lu Cheng was impressive.

Xiang Kuihua was different. He was in orthopedics, so even though he didn’t attend the competition, he would hear rumors in the profession, and some people might seek him out to inquire about Lu Cheng.

Thus, as long as Xiang Kuihua isn’t particularly ”out of it,” he wouldn’t target Lu Cheng.

In professional matters, identifying a problem doesn’t mean there truly is one, especially since Professor Tong Yuan’an is still around.

”What about Professor Tong?” Lu Cheng asked.

”Director Xiang didn’t specify, but besides limb severance surgeries, Professor Tong rarely participates in other cases.”

”And he only takes shifts on odd days.” Zeng Huanqi shook his head, not knowing the interaction between Xiang Kuihua and Tong Yuan’an.

But Zeng Huanqi could perceive that Tong Yuan’an was acting like a big-shot supervisor when he came to the emergency department.

Lu Cheng asked: ”Brother Zeng, do you know the name of the orthopedic doctor going to the countryside this time?”

”It seems to be someone named Hu Yi; I haven’t figured out exactly where they’re from, and orthopedics hasn’t shared anything.” Zeng Huanqi replied.

Zeng Huanqi wouldn’t conduct a thorough background check on the countryside doctor for orthopedics.

Damn!

Tong Yuan’an and Hu Yi are exploiting the situation quietly.

Both are from Xiangya, and they’re from the same team; Hu Yi is using the ”going to the countryside” excuse to learn new techniques.

Or you could say, Hu Yi came to learn the technique anyway, not too busy, so they added another countryside slot.

For countryside support, everyone is happy to see more people aiding remote areas as long as the top units can send people.

The situation is often that top units can’t spare enough people.

...

November 11, Wednesday, Lu Cheng’s emergency surgery shift.

Lu Cheng left early to have breakfast and then rushed to the hospital.

Lu Cheng got to the department at 7:30, only to find Du Qiang was already there ahead of him.

Moreover, Du Qiang’s face looked extremely grim.

Upon seeing Lu Cheng, Du Qiang didn’t even pretend and directly shouted: ”Lu Cheng, come to my office.”

Lu Cheng followed Du Qiang straight into the director’s office.

Once the door was closed, Du Qiang anxiously knocked on the desk: ”Lu Cheng, you’re in big trouble this time.”

Lu Cheng looked puzzled: ”Uncle???”

”I just got word that the provincial award you received caught the attention of the inspection team, and they want to investigate this matter!”

”They are looking into how the techniques you won the award with were learned, whether clinical patients were used for experiments without reporting, and if many unauthorized clinical operations were conducted.”

Du Qiang gazed in astonishment at Lu Cheng: ”You never said you won the first prize at the provincial competition!”

”I did mention it, didn’t Dean Hu even announce it?” Lu Cheng said.

”But you didn’t say you won the first prize for new techniques?” Du Qiang’s voice was somewhat distorted.

Lu Cheng was silent for a moment, then asked: ”Uncle Du, didn’t Director Huang go over yesterday? What was the result?”

”Director Huang’s explanation didn’t make sense; the higher-ups aren’t checking Director Lin Qianlong’s unauthorized surgeries. They want to verify the origins of your award-winning ’suturing technique’.”

Du Qiang said: ”Lu Cheng, you’re just one person, and if the inspection team focuses on you, you’ll be in big trouble.”

The inspection team arrived in Xiangzhou, Dean Peng automatically sought them out to confess, making Long County People’s Hospital a key investigation unit.

Some minor issues certainly won’t catch their attention.

For instance, economic issues, if the amounts aren’t substantial, say only a few thousand, would anyone bother checking?

But Lu Cheng’s case is different; a county carrying out ”new technology”?

Sounds like ”human experimentation,” isn’t it?

Wouldn’t that stand out and draw attention?

Although it hasn’t been entirely characterized yet, things are heading in that direction.

Lu Cheng asked: ”But I didn’t practice illegally in a clinical setting?”

”Director Tian and Director Huang received this response! It’s news from the state.”

”Since they’ve chosen to go public, maybe they’re holding some key evidence.” Du Qiang said.

”Lu Cheng, I never anticipated this.”

”You’re driving your Uncle Du crazy.” Du Qiang couldn’t play smart anymore; he was just worried.

He stood up and paced the office with a cigarette.

Lu Cheng said: ”Uncle Du, I didn’t conduct human experiments, nor did I perform many suturing techniques clinically. I didn’t practice on humans.”

Du Qiang asked: ”Where’s the evidence?”

”I have it!~” Lu Cheng replied.

”You have evidence? How do you have evidence?” Du Qiang asked, puzzled.

”Uncle Du, you don’t need to worry; I’ve kept evidence.” Lu Cheng has a habit of videotaping his practice sessions.
