System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

This type of injury is generally seen in trauma, rarely in chronic injuries, and only professionals can understand the nuances.

However, Chen Song, maintaining Teacher Lu Cheng’s attitude, asked more: ”Lu Cheng, did you say that your county’s Health and Hygiene Bureau penalized you before?”

”What was your penalty?”

”A warning and a one-week suspension from practice,” Lu Cheng said.

A week’s suspension from practice is just symbolic for medical personnel; it’s like no penalty at all.

Chen Song, a bit picky about food, had no intention of eating, folded his arms and said, ”This thing doesn’t affect your career, but it greatly affects the selection exam you’re currently participating in, right?”

Upon hearing this, Lu Cheng felt a sudden tension.

He had thoroughly researched the selection exam regulations, one of which stipulated no ”law-breaking or disciplinary violations”.

Although this penalty is indeed minor, once the big stick drops, Lu Cheng would be directly disqualified as ”ineligible to apply”.

If you’re not even eligible to apply, what use is it no matter how capable you are?

Lu Cheng said, ”Teacher Chen, are you saying?”

”This, it’s not to that extent, right?”

Chen Song shook his head, ”You still have seen too little; there are many smart people in this world, and many who can make things happen.”

”Maybe the competition for county positions isn’t that fierce, but in our hospital recruitments, each year there are all sorts of accusations flying around.”

”The fiercest competition is indeed the academicians’ selections, ha, there are many maneuvers outside of it.”

Lu Cheng: ”...”

I’m participating in a selection exam for a city-level hospital, yet you bring up the academicians’ selection, can that be the same level of competition?

Unexpectedly, Zeng Huanqi was right.

...

After having a meal with Chen Song, Lu Cheng called Director Du Qiang to inform him of the return time.

Lu Cheng’s surgical shift is twenty-four hours, so the exact return time needs to be accurately reported.

Then, Lu Cheng followed Chen Song to take a look at the animal laboratory, and only then did he feel a sense of being involved in a ’grandiose’ project for future research.

He realized that he too could participate and lead such an impressive project, that his research could be so rigorous, and that he had such a good experimental environment.

These were things Lu Cheng had long looked forward to but had never been involved in, so he felt quite awed.

Afternoon, 5:40 p.m.

Lu Cheng and Chen Song were planning to have dinner, unexpectedly, both received a call from an unfamiliar number.

Lu Cheng’s call was from Kyoto, while Chen Song’s was from Shanghai.

The two separated by some distance, each answered their call.

”Hello...” Lu Cheng chose to answer.

”Is this Dr. Lu, please?” The voice on the other end of the line was amiable.

”Yes, I’m Lu Cheng. May I ask who this is?” Lu Cheng replied.

”I’m Chang Song, a friend of Xiao Mingqi. I’m entrusted by my friend to definitely get in touch with you, Dr. Lu Cheng.” Chang Song’s voice was very pleasant.

”Did you dial the wrong number? I don’t know the person you mentioned,” said Lu Cheng.

Chang Song laughed, speaking in a standard Beijing accent: ”Dr. Lu Cheng, there’s no way it’s a wrong number; my friend repeatedly confirmed the number in detail.”

”The person who saved his life, my friend wouldn’t mix that up.”

”Mainly, it was during work hours before, so my friend didn’t disturb you, and I’m also working, with my own responsibilities, so I can’t rashly disturb.”

”I wonder, have you gone back, Dr. Lu? If not, could you let me treat you to a meal to express my gratitude on behalf of my friend?”

Chang Song’s words were very logical, and he gave Lu Cheng plenty of room to maneuver.

Lu Cheng thought about it, somewhat understood Xiao Comrade’s identity, and said: ”I’ve almost reached the highway. I’m still on call today; I was temporarily recruited here, not deliberately.”

”Oh, Dr. Lu, you’re driving? Then continue with your work; just take care and drive safely.”

After saying that, Chang Song lowered his voice: ”He’s driving, about to get on the highway.”

”Then let’s wait for another opportunity. Currently, given our identities, it’s really not suitable for private meetings.” A strange middle-aged voice came from the other end.

Chang Song conveyed: ”Dr. Lu, then I won’t bother you anymore. There will surely be a chance to meet next time.”

When faced with polite people, Lu Cheng was also polite: ”No need to be so courteous!”

After hanging up, Chen Song was still chatting in detail on his call. Lu Cheng waited for more than ten minutes before Chen Song returned with a very refreshed look.

It was clear he had encountered something good.

Of course, Lu Cheng didn’t ask what good fortune Professor Chen Song encountered: ”Teacher Chen, shall we go eat?”

”Yes, let’s go. Tonight, it’s on me; let’s have a drink together.” Chen Song set the tone in advance.

Lu Cheng jokingly said: ”Then Teacher Chen will have to get me a designated driver back to Long County, and also find someone to cover my shift.”

Chen Song said haughtily: ”You’re getting cheekier now.”

”Oh, by the way, during this national medical skills competition, I was going to recommend a few people to you. It might help your future.”

Lu Cheng thought for a moment and then realized he hadn’t told Chen Song yet that he wasn’t joining the competition.

”Teacher Chen, sorry, I forgot to tell you something,” Lu Cheng said, immediately explaining the situation.

This included his decision to forgo the national competition and his specific reasons.

Unsurprisingly, Chen Song gave Lu Cheng a playful slap and began to nag: ”So you told everyone else, just not me, huh?”

Lu Cheng quickly bowed his head in apology: ”I’m sorry, Teacher Chen, I forgot; it’s my fault, I sincerely admit my mistake.”

”But you’re not competing? Won’t it be boring during this time?” Chen Song countered.

Such a perfect occasion to show off, and Lu Cheng just let it slide?

Lu Cheng had long been tempered into a worldly man: ”Teacher Chen, when the time comes, I can be by your side, fulfilling my duty to you, and do research together, or else wouldn’t you be bored?”

The reason was foolproof.

Chen Song said, ”Let’s go, eat now!!~”
