System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

November 14th, Ji City. Xiangzhou People’s Hospital.

When Lu Cheng arrived at the personnel department of Xiangzhou People’s Hospital to report, he found that, as expected, there were only five people left in the emergency department for the follow-up assessment.

Originally, the emergency department had two positions, one in surgery and one in internal medicine, and a total of six people were supposed to participate in the follow-up assessment.

However, on the day of the written test, Lu Cheng received a call from Qi Mu, saying that someone had passively withdrawn from the follow-up assessment plan.

Of course, it was only after arriving that Lu Cheng learned that the personnel department called Qi Mu over to confirm in person that he wanted to voluntarily give up the follow-up assessment.

And as for Li Yuanlin, it was to confirm that Lu Cheng would be present for the assessment.

Otherwise, if Lu Cheng didn’t come and voluntarily withdrew from the follow-up assessment, would it not allow the third person to gain a huge advantage?

The personnel department had already sent the internal medicine people to the department for follow-up assessments. At this moment, Qi Mu and others had already returned to prepare to send the surgical team members for a three-day shadowing assessment!

Lu Cheng and Li Yuanlin were not following Qi Mu, but another colleague from the personnel department.

The first group to be sent was Lu Cheng and Li Yuanlin, as they were the only two for the emergency surgery, while other surgical departments were in the surgical building.

In the emergency department, after the personnel department confirmed the candidates for the re-examination with Xiao Zhaoxi, they routinely said, ”Director Xiao, another person has given up the shadowing assessment, and I’ve sent the other two to you.”

Xiao Zhaoxi nodded with a smile: ”Hmm, thank you, Teacher Long. We will certainly make good arrangements.”

The colleague from the personnel department was surnamed Long: ”Director Xiao, I still need to send other people for the shadowing assessment, so I won’t disrupt your work.”

Teacher Long had many more people to send and immediately bade farewell.

Xiao Zhaoxi said: ”Dr. Lu Cheng and Dr. Li Yuanlin, first of all, on behalf of our emergency department, welcome you to choose our department.”

”You guys passing the preliminary selection of the assessment exam surely makes you some of the best surgical doctors in the state.”

”No matter who of you stays in the end, I will be happy, although there is only one spot for the assessment exam, and there are two candidates now. I wish I could keep both of you.”

”But higher authorities haven’t given me that many spots, so at the end, I’ll have to make a hard choice.” Xiao Zhaoxi said, somewhat regretfully conveying pleasantries.

After Xiao Zhaoxi finished speaking, Li Yuanlin scratched his ear, looked at Lu Cheng, and shook his head lightly, saying, ”Director Xiao, actually, I’m just here to be a bystander today.”

”As you saw the score sheet Teacher Long from the personnel department just gave you, I don’t intend to continue wasting time. I’ll leave after reporting in a while.”

Xiao Zhaoxi was a bit taken aback, looking a little ’astonished’: ”Dr. Li, the shadowing assessment hasn’t even started yet, and you’re planning to give up?”

”Director Xiao, we all understand, and you don’t have to say such pleasantries. Even if I participated in the shadowing assessment, could you let me pass?”

”If I had known this, why waste time? It’s better to go back and do more shifts and prepare honestly for next year’s selection exam.” Li Yuanlin spoke very pragmatically.

”Director Xiao, I’m very sure, this is a voluntary, independent decision I’ve made. If the higher authorities call later, I will reply the same way.”

Without realizing he missed an opportunity, Li Yuanlin decisively turned and left.

Instead of being used for free labor at the State Hospital during a shadowing assessment, it’s better to go back early and handle some minor surgeries, and increase next month’s salary.

...

In the morning, at nine-thirty.

Just as Lu Cheng arrived at the emergency department and began the shadowing assessment, he was the only one left for the follow-up assessment.

This situation was also something Xiao Zhaoxi hadn’t anticipated beforehand.

Yet, Lu Cheng was indeed the person Xiao Zhaoxi wanted to recruit, so he directly took Lu Cheng to the surgery team office area to start introducing him to the staff——

”Director Tian, let me introduce you. This is Dr. Lu Cheng, here for the shadowing assessment as part of our department’s selection examination, previously worked at Long County People’s Hospital.”

”Xiao Lu, this is our department’s Director Tian Zhiliang, who will also be your leader in the surgical team in the future,” Xiao Zhaoxi said.

”Hello, Director Tian!” Lu Cheng greeted Tian Zhiliang with a smile.

Tian Zhiliang quickly shook hands with Lu Cheng: ”Hello, Dr. Lu, I have long heard of your reputation. Just one word, impressive!”

”Director Tian, you’re too kind,” Lu Cheng said modestly with a smile.

Tian Zhiliang, a bald man with a slightly rugged appearance, put his hands on his hips: ”I am not being too kind. Virtually everyone in our hospital’s surgery department knows of you, Xiao Lu!”

”About that surgery last time, at Xiangya Second Hospital.”

Xiao Zhaoxi immediately coughed: ”Director Tian, Xiao Lu is here for the shadowing assessment, so let’s not talk about things we shouldn’t discuss.”

Tian Zhiliang sheepishly laughed: ”Director Xiao, that’s my mistake!”

”Xiao Lu, just follow Director Xiao closely for the shadowing. Are there any other colleagues?” Tian Zhiliang glanced around.

Xiao Zhaoxi promptly handed the preliminary score sheet from the personnel department to Tian Zhiliang.

Upon seeing it, Tian Zhiliang immediately understood what was happening and gave up a thumbs-up: ”So, before it’s even started, Dr. Lu, you’ve already nailed the competition?”

”Doesn’t that mean it’s set?”

”Perfect, let’s have a drink after work today.”

Xiao Zhaoxi coughed again: ”Tian Zhiliang, I was only informing you about this, not telling you to take people out drinking. In our emergency department, drinking on workdays is prohibited.”
