System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”You don’t need to be so polite. The surgery was performed by Professor Chen Song. I mainly assisted, and my ability to come to Ji City was also due to the allocation of higher leadership.”

”You should be thanking Professor Chen Song and the relevant leaders more, otherwise I wouldn’t have known you were injured and needed surgery.” Lu Cheng’s words were rather calm and polite.

After reading, Xiao Mingqi tapped his phone screen with his right index finger, a smile appearing at the corner of his mouth, and typed back: ”Dr. Lu, you don’t have to be too modest either.”

”Although I’m not a practitioner in the medical and healthcare industry, my friends have said that being able to save the spleen this time was entirely lucky.”

”After all, the medical standards where I am now are indeed average, and even if similar situations occur elsewhere, there might not be a good outcome.”

”So, I have to thank you too, Dr. Lu.”

What Xiao Mingqi didn’t expect was that Lu Cheng didn’t immediately respond to the message he sent.

Instead, half an hour later, Lu Cheng replied with a message: ”I’m on duty, a patient came in, have to enter the operating room. Sorry.”

This is completely the conversation attitude between a doctor and a regular patient, neither warm nor cold, making Xiao Mingqi feel quite unaccustomed.

But Xiao Mingqi didn’t dwell on it, put down his phone, and rested.

He still had many tubes inserted in his body, making movement rather inconvenient...

Long County, in a certain residential area.

Dean Hu Qingshan made a call to Director Tian Qi of the Health Bureau at his home to inquire about the follow-up of matters, asking: ”Director Tian, so does this mean the matter will not be pursued further?”

”Yes, it was Zhang Qiao from the State Health and Health Commission who personally contacted me.” Tian Qi replied from the other side.

Hu Qingshan was puzzled: ”Director Tian, who contacted you previously then?”

Tian Qi replied: ”It was the Medical Administration section!”

Zhang Qiao is one of the deputy directors of the Health Commission, overseeing one of the offices of the Medical Administration section, with a higher rank than the office director of the Medical Administration section.

Hu Qingshan was well-versed and immediately stated: ”Okay, Director Tian, I will accept the instructions from higher leadership and will not conduct a retrospective investigation within the hospital.”

”But in the future, we will definitely regulate the scope of business within the hospital more strictly.”

Some matters, even if not pursued further, cannot be continued!

Tian Qi suddenly said: ”Dean Hu, the most important thing is for procedures to be normal. Dr. Lu is considered a talent in our county’s health sector. If he follows the regulations, no one would bother him.”

”Such talents should be valued by you, Dean Hu.”

”This is also the leadership’s intention.”

Hu Qingshan immediately replied: ”Alright, Director Tian, I will reach out to Dr. Lu Cheng to understand his personal thoughts.”

”If possible, see if we can retain Dr. Lu Cheng to continue working in the county.”

”Indeed, Dean Hu, sometimes we are also responsible for arranging leaders’ health and hospitality work in the county.”

”The more skilled individuals there are, the easier it is to arrange for such matters.”

Tian Qi then reminded: ”However, still be cautious, fully respecting personal wishes.”

”As far as I know, Dr. Lu Cheng’s interpersonal relations are somewhat complex.”

Hu Qingshan was silent for a while, not responding, yet understanding Tian Qi’s implication.

Lu Cheng’s interpersonal relationships are complex not only with the teaching hospital but also due to this unexpected incident that further expanded his network.

Skilled and irreplaceable doctors can build such a broad network so quickly.

This is an innate advantage that is irreplaceable in any profession.

...

In the early morning, 1:40 AM.

After completing a nearly perfect spleen removal surgery, Lu Cheng felt a bit agitated.

Returning to the break room, he covered himself with a blanket and fell into a deep sleep.

He tossed and turned for a full half hour before truly falling asleep.

The following day, when Lu Cheng began ward rounds again, the patient and family from the early morning surgery saw the patient’s good state, greeting Lu Cheng and the ward round with great courtesy.

”Thank you, Dr. Lu, thank you, Director Du...” The genuine smile on their faces could not be faked.

The patient and family had no idea his situation could have allowed for spleen preservation.

Nor did they know that Lu Cheng could save it, but also could not.

Lu Cheng didn’t dwell on this matter for long, after thoroughly checking that the patient’s drainage output was less than ten milliliters, he suggested: ”Director Du, this patient’s drainage output is minimal. I think the tube can be removed for review tomorrow.”

Du Qiang nodded, his tone serious: ”Then remove the tube tomorrow. The wound has recovered well, remember to check promptly.”

”The specific matters for review will be told when you are discharged. After a spleen removal, immunity will decrease, so regular long-term review is necessary, understood?”

The patient sighed: ”Oh well, there’s nothing I can do. Dr. Lu discussed this issue with me before the surgery yesterday.”

”Bad luck, it doesn’t hurt much now, which is the important thing.”

”Hmm, have a proper rest!” Du Qiang led the team to leave.

Lu Cheng, before moving past his bed again, turned to look at him one more time, hiding all complex emotions in his heart.

This world is unfair like this; in similar situations, some patients can preserve their organs, while some cannot.

Even worse, some hospitals can save a patient’s life, while in others, patients may face misfortune.

This isn’t a rule Lu Cheng can change, and he can only silently abide by it.

Because Lu Cheng wouldn’t gamble with his future and career, gambling is deadly, losing once means losing everything.

One day, all patients he handles will be able to openly preserve their organs, which is Lu Cheng’s understanding!

Time flows like water, and soon it was Friday.

Lu Cheng was about to embark on the selection exam’s practical assessment and shadowing assessment...
