System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Lu Cheng pushed open the door, and only then did Du Qiang coldly add, ”This time, you were lucky, and they won’t pursue it. If it happens again, no one can protect you.”

Du Qiang was still putting on his Oscar-worthy act.

Lu Cheng felt like laughing. If it wasn’t for the unique atmosphere in the department, he might have actually laughed out loud.

...

After the storm barely passed, only then did Zhang Tiesheng, working the night shift in the ward, finally have a moment to congratulate Lu Cheng: ”Xiao Lu, the selection exam, you’re probably already set for it.”

”Do you know when your batch will be transferred to the selected unit?”

Lu Cheng shook his head, ”Brother Zhang, I don’t know either. The practical exams and on-the-job assessments haven’t even started yet.”

”With your grades, there’s no need to worry about the practical exams or the assessments. Who dares to drag the practical exam scores so low? Especially when the reference group includes you?”

Zhang Tiesheng said with slight regret: ”You just came to our emergency department, and now you’re about to leave. To be blunt, Brother Zhang is really reluctant to see you go.”

After saying that, Zhang Tiesheng added, ”But working in the State will be better for your career, Lu Cheng, and your brother wishes you every success in the future.”

No matter their personal relationship, Zhang Tiesheng knew Lu Cheng was bound to make his way to a big hospital.

Before taking the selection exam, Lu Cheng had openly said he had talked with Union Hospital.

Sooner or later, he was going to move on.

Lu Cheng asked, ”Brother Zhang, how’s your suturing skill coming along?”

”I can barely manage the tension band suture!~ There’s no rush to learn the suturing technique, you go take the selection exam first; there’ll be plenty of time later.”

”At worst, I’ll just make more trips to higher-level hospitals.” Zhang Tiesheng waved dismissively.

It was Zhang Tiesheng who needed to learn, and it wasn’t reasonable for Lu Cheng to stay just for him.

As a student, if you want to learn, you have to take the initiative to find your teacher.

Seeing Lu Cheng not responding, Zhang Tiesheng continued: ”By the way, Xiao Lu, according to you, the County Health Bureau came to our hospital yesterday, and the inspection team wasn’t even aware or concerned?”

Lu Cheng nodded, ”That’s what I know for now. Not only was the inspection team in the dark, but even Director Tan Li from the Emergency Office at the State Health and Health Commission didn’t know.”

”And that’s after he asked around.”

Zhang Tiesheng pursed his lips, ”Yama is easy to deal with, the little demons are tricky—this old saying isn’t lying…”

”So you finished the surgery in the morning and didn’t come back until the evening, right? Did someone approach you privately?”

”When you take off, Xiao Lu, remember Brother Zhang’s name, okay? In case I need to ask you for help one day, don’t pretend you don’t know me.”

Zhang Tiesheng had quietly gathered some information.

The incident of an inspection team member being hospitalized was definitely a big deal, known by quite a few.

It wasn’t meant to spread widely, but it wasn’t something Zhang Tiesheng couldn’t find out about.

Lu Cheng was invited over to perform a consultation surgery, didn’t this mean he was recognized even at the high leadership level?

No matter how the people behind the scenes tried to define the spleen preservation surgery, the injured patient was definitely a beneficiary of the new technique. Even if he couldn’t directly repay Lu Cheng, he would remember him.

Otherwise, losing an organ is no small matter.

”They did contact me, but I didn’t go.” Lu Cheng replied.

Zhang Tiesheng was taken aback and instinctively retorted, ”That’s a bit naive of you.”

Lu Cheng said, ”It’s actually alright. They know who performed the surgery; it doesn’t matter if I’m thanked or not.”

”I didn’t go to Ji City for the gratitude.”

Lu Cheng was far from naive in his mind.

”That’s true. Giving gifts at the right time creates an obligation, which is better than exchanging pleasantries.”

Zhang Tiesheng’s eyes twinkled, though it wasn’t as noticeable under his stern expression: ”Xiao Lu, you do have some deep thoughts.”

Lu Cheng said, ”Brother Zhang, I really didn’t think that much.”

”However, I do think that until our technique is documented at higher levels, we shouldn’t perform the spleen preservation surgery again.”

”This time was an unexpected misunderstanding, but next time might not be.”

Zhang Tiesheng nodded, ”The County Hospital is a limitation for you, Xiao Lu, you can’t fully utilize your skills there.”

Lu Cheng recognized Zhang Tiesheng’s compliment as mere flattery and didn’t take it seriously.

...

Meanwhile, in Ji City, at the State People’s Hospital.

In a private room in the high-class ward, Xiao Mingqi, having confirmed with his doctor friends that his current treatment was a stroke of luck, felt quite regretful.

If he had known how hot-tempered the people in Xiangzhou were, he wouldn’t have said much.

Now, if things don’t go well, he might even be held accountable for breaching protocol.

It’s a complete mess.

Xiao Mingqi didn’t have any accompanying family members, at least not right now. But the message he received was that he would temporarily be transferred away from the inspection team.

First, because he was injured and needed rest. Secondly, since the incident had blown up, the inspection team, considering his safety, had also invited external experts for consultation.

This little incident wouldn’t affect his major prospects, but hoping for top evaluations in the near future was probably out of the question.

Of course, such matters didn’t bother Xiao Mingqi for long. For now, he felt fortunate just to have all his organs intact.

In a shallow pool, there are many turtles.

After muttering, Xiao Mingqi’s WeChat notification sounded again. He initially thought it was a message from family, but upon checking, he found it was a reply from Lu Cheng.
