Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 617: Chapter 415: The Schemer Exposes a Flaw

During the time the Undead Tribe was trapped in Winterland, List could feel the occasional fluctuations outside the Magic Tower.

Before heading to Winterland, the Undead Tribe had entrusted the management of their carefully constructed camp to List.

For List, who had once controlled an entire territory, manipulating these basic magic arrays was a piece of cake.

Actually, these arrays were not very strong; even though List’s reaction to the external elemental fluctuations was quite noticeable, it was still difficult to detect the presence of a False God.

But people in this world could not understand why the Undead Tribe would entrust their painstakingly built camp to Hill, who was clearly not one of their own.

After sneaking into the Undead Tribe camp, they often used the shadows of abundant alchemy huts to hide where elemental fluctuations were more pronounced.

If it was about estimating the original identities of these False Gods, Hill truly had no intention of letting those legends who had only managed to run over on their own feet go unpunished.

The bounty offered by the Pantheon was not actually the highest on Hill’s end.

But there were always people who thought that just one Legendary Mage would be easy to kill, even with a Magic Tower, if they had enough people.

Hill suspected that the Coin Church, which was the most well-informed on the continent, had withheld the fact that the four berserker gods had been defeated at Hill’s hands.

This was the first time Hill had taken so many lives, and while the mages hadn’t bothered him, swordsmen, knights, shamans, thieves, and even some Chosen Ones really showed up in great numbers.

Hill was initially furious, but later he just didn’t care anymore, taking the opportunity to familiarize himself with various professions from other worlds.

The heritage of Teraxil was actually very ancient, probably because most professions had been passed down from elves.

With a gentle wave of his hand, Hill brought down a Meteor Shower on another fool who was unaware of his impending doom, although the skill was originally called ”Meteorite Fall,” Hill had also habitually started calling it ”Meteor Shower” like the Undead Tribe.

”Even if the Coin Church has blocked the news, so many have died, why are there still idiots coming out?” Hill asked quietly, ”The last ones who came, was there something wrong with their profession?”

”There are more thieves,” List calculated and immediately replied, ”Those who could only charge at the camp frontally are becoming fewer, and most of those who came later were thieves capable of invisibility.”

”That’s not right,” Hill shook his head, ”No thief in any world is foolish enough to fight a losing battle unless they have some compelling reason.”

Especially at the Legendary Rank, each one was a master of backstabbing, well-informed, and quick to flee, which is a basic skill for thieves.

”Although we can’t see their true forms, the last of the thieves to come were partly human, and partly I don’t know if they were halflings or gnomes, but all were quite short.”

Hill estimated that in just these few days, the legends who had died by his hands numbered over a hundred.

Even though the legends of this world were worthless, similar to the fake legends of the Undead Tribe, it should still be a significant blow to the powers behind them.

Hill suddenly paused, ”Are they gnomes or gnolls? Not halflings, they are a bit sturdier.”

List struggled to recall, Hill’s Meteor Shower was very fast at killing, but because it always caused the bodies to burn, it was really hard to tell just what these short thieves looked like after they died.

But with gnolls, even if they hid well, there were still discernible differences.

Since these legends all died in more peripheral locations, Hill disliked handling the bodies, choosing to deal with these deceitful individuals from a fair distance. List was only concerned about whether they were truly dead.

He solemnly nodded, ”I was too careless. Indeed, some of them seemed to have tails, and their mouths were a bit protruding. But there were definitely many gnomes, some people’s face masks were burned off first.”

Hill looked up at the horizon, where a few small black dots appeared.

Scattered members of the Undead Tribe began flying back to the camp, likely those who disliked the environment of Winterland and hurried away as soon as they finished their missions.

It was in the nature of the Undead Tribe, no matter how complex the mission, once someone completed it first, the rest of the large group would also finish very quickly.

Hill smiled, the Undead Tribe’s army would probably be back soon, and those two False Gods who had been squatting in the shadows, if they did not act today, it would be too late.

Glancing a few times at those False Gods firmly guarding the shadows, Hill felt a bit dazed, had he overlooked something?

This mastermind, his attitude towards his Divine Artifact, why did it seem like he was determined to have it?

”Are there only gnolls in this world?” Hill stood up, pulling out a book on racial introductions.

It merely stated that gnolls were a race living inside volcanoes, numerous in number, naturally fire-resistant, fond of mining, and inherently part of the Evil Faction.

What he really wanted to see had no description at all.

But this was impossible, how could there be so many legendary thieves without someone backing the gnolls?

Hill pulled out the introductions to gnomes and dwarves, discovering that most of them were involved in mining and equipment manufacturing for a living.

Especially the gnomes, who had almost given up all other hobbies to craft jewelry every day.

Yet, with the characteristics of these two races, there hadn’t been any famous equipment or jewelry reported in thousands of years!

He stood up, finding the auction catalogs from the years of the Golden Age Commerce.

This commerce liked to compile all their renowned auction items into catalogs and present them to some of their major clients for appreciation.

Actually, it was just to make them prepare the money earlier.

In any world, if it’s an auction, even slightly savvy businessmen will eventually come to this step.

Hill, when buying second-hand books, often saw these beautifully crafted booklets and felt fortunate that he wasn’t picky, as he collected any book he didn’t already have.

He had looked for a long time, in such an ancient world, yet it really lacked the appearance of those long-inherited ornate jewels!

Hill glanced at the Ring of Winter on his finger, its exquisite frost gemstone radiating a tempting glow.

He found a book about non-human races and came across a section on goblins.

In this world, goblins had become slaves to gnolls!

Although numbering in the hundreds of thousands, they ended up being controlled by the gnolls, who were said to only number in the tens of thousands.

Hill felt a bit dazed as he read it, for when the population of goblins exceeded a certain limit, they truly became a disaster.

If the gnolls were really that strong, they would have become the masters of the entire Ferun Great Land long ago.

Hill glanced outside at the camp, where the faster mages had already landed on the camp walls.

Hill noticed that they changed direction in the air; originally intending to return to their ancestral lands, they suddenly veered off course in mid-air.

These were probably undead from the Alchemy Hut who wanted to rest but noticed the corpses at the camp’s perimeter.

After whispering among themselves for a while, they raised their hands high and erected a firewall outside the camp.

Now, List didn’t have to worry about whether there would be any feigning death, as the undead seemed to have accustomed themselves to cleaning up the battlefield so decisively.

Hill had long discovered that the undead couldn’t loot the dead no matter whom they killed. Apart from these people’s space rings and weapons in their hands, their eyes simply couldn’t see the equipment on the bodies.

William and the God of Time and Space had actually considered a lot, not just to shield the undead from seeing the gore before them.

Hill glanced outside and suddenly took out a set of particularly luxurious mage equipment from his pendant.

From the circlet to the earrings, from the bracelet to the armlet, everything was included.

This set of element-enhancing jewelry in the style of Saral Court was a gift from Adrian.

When Hill became legendary, Adrian gave him many extravagant but impractical items. His jewelry-making skills were actually not as good as Melanie’s; it was completely a waste of gems.

But it was Adrian’s kind gesture, and he even told Hill to sell them if he ever needed to, but Hill never considered selling the set even when he was at his poorest.

Adrian wasn’t one to often engage in making alchemy equipment by hand. This was a gift he made sincerely to celebrate Hill’s achievement, which Hill cherished dearly.

However, Hill wasn’t interested in wearing it. Wearing such large elemental gems strung together had no purpose other than being heavy.

But today, they were suitable for making an appearance.

When Hill showed up at the second-floor landing window of the Magic Tower with the jewelry on, a shadow in the camp quickly pulsed, while another made a subtler movement.

Not like here, it was practically announcing its presence to Hill.

Knowing it couldn’t stay hidden, a tall figure in the shadows leapt up, and two streaks of silver light thrust towards the crystal landing window in front of Hill.

The undead on the city wall shouted angrily, and Hill even had the interest to listen to what they were cursing.

Then he couldn’t help but twist his lips.

The undead’s thinking really jumped around! In such an anxious moment, they could still shout, ”Scoundrel, let go of that beautiful young man, or I’ll haunt you for ten thousand years!”

Or something like ”Isn’t the abbess beautiful? Why steal a man?”

Hill sighed, his curiosity was really untimely.

The tall thief’s twin blades directly struck the crystal window, sparking a burst of intense sparks, and the undead’s giant fireball also rushed toward his head across half the camp.

However, Hill’s attention was captured by the shorter figure that darted out directly behind the tall thief and almost followed the twin blades to the crystal window.

They coordinated very well, although not of the same race, there was a great understanding!

Unfortunately, all their calculations were based on the assumption that the crystal window would shatter, allowing the first one to break it and throw the defending mage into disarray.

Unfortunately, the seemingly clear transparent window did not break at all.

They only managed to get hit by dozens of giant fireballs.
