Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 640: Chapter 438

Hill looked indifferently at the Level 12 Mage before him, feeling that the man could still understand his hints.

As long as they were descendants of Santos and he still controlled the Magic Tower, they could come to perform this bloodline verification.

If Hogan could control his people, there wouldn’t be any issues, but if anyone took advantage of his inattention to secretly record their bloodline, Hill would not reject them.

If Hogan was wise, he would not think about turning this magic tower into his own private territory.

”But with such a powerful shockwave, Reyes City could hardly hold! We definitely need to construct a new city. Why can’t it be here?

After all, everyone else has left.” Hogan finally voiced his thoughts.

He had set his sights on the camp below the Magic Tower, intending to construct a new city there.

Although Hill had left, he wouldn’t possibly keep such a large Array running, but with so few people left, even if more came, they couldn’t possibly exceed ten thousand.

This place could completely accommodate them, the ground at the campsite was made of obsidian!

When out of money, just thinking about selling a piece would be enough for him to build a city, not to mention that he still had enough food.

Hill smiled coldly, ”What happens here doesn’t concern me. I won’t be coming back to Felunryel, consider what you want to do by yourselves!”

Noises came from a window by the side, and Hogan, who had been deep in thought about how to continue persuading Hill, couldn’t help but look over.

Then, he froze, staring blankly in that direction.

Hill glanced at Alice, who was making the noises and was now giving him an embarrassed smile.

Several days had passed, and Marsha had long abandoned the monochrome robes Hill used and made a more suitable, light purple, gauzy, flowing long dress for Alice.

Alice’s gold hair cascaded down, parted by several strands from the center and sides braided into fishtail plaits, complemented by a thin hairband adorned with purple lilac flowers.

Her lovely smile and slight dimples made this blonde beauty appear so refreshingly sweet.

Hill could understand why Hogan was spellbound, but couldn’t tolerate it.

”Mage Hogan, I think you need to have a good discussion with your family,” Hill said solemnly, ”Ask them if they all plan to stay in the Magic Tower. My departure is imminent, and apart from the magic tower, I can’t leave you with anything else.”

Hogan suddenly came to his senses, ”Ah! Mage Polanio, I...”

Hill raised his hand, ”You can go back first, perhaps there are people below who want to return to Reyes. Since you led them out, you should also take them back.

I don’t have the manpower.”

Hill flashed a slight smile, unless Hogan hired the Undead Tribe.

Unfortunately, these few couldn’t be tricked with just a little money.

List appeared in front of the two men, and Hogan promptly took his leave respectfully.

Hill knew he had been very unapproachable.

But for such a deceitful fellow, Hill would definitely not give him any chance to flatter Alice; as nice as it sounded, it seemed like an insult.

”He didn’t say to let his family also use this Crystal Ball to confirm their bloodline once.” Watching Alice leave, Hill couldn’t help but speak.

”That’s their family’s affair,” Hill smiled, ”And besides, despite his lengthy speech, hardly any of it was truthful.

How could his family members only be those downstairs?

Weren’t his grandmother and their parents Mages too?

Since no one in Reyes City knows of their connection to Santos, as a family following the City Lord, they must be living well.

And seeing his behavior during the occupation by the Undead, it doesn’t seem like he has a feud with the Undead, which suggests that those Mages in his family are still alive.

He doesn’t want to tell the truth but still wants to gain advantages from me? He must think too highly of me, right? Or does he think I’m a naive fool?”

Alice listened to Hill’s words, stunned, and couldn’t help but tilt her head to the side, not understanding anything he said.

List appeared with a smile: ”He immediately went back to those Mages, ignoring the pregnant woman. It seems the Hogan Family has many secrets.”

Hill couldn’t help but laugh, ”They’re thinking too much. My only respect for Mage Santos was to leave this Magic Tower to his descendants.

As for who they are, I don’t care.

The affair here in Felunryel is almost over.

List, you go and clear up whatever needs to be cleared! The Gods of Ferun are probably about to start managing their respective faiths.

Staying here is meaningless for me.

If we still have to deal with the Undead, we had better stay near the Star Gate first.

Tell those few Undead to come with me!

Leave this place to the Hogan Family, and ignore everything else.”

Hill thought for a moment and then added, ”Especially those children, do not feel any pity for them however pitiful they are. I suspect, during the time the Undead were in Reyes City, those Mages who sided with them leaked quite a bit of information to me.”

Hogan’s attitude was certainly not just a casual mention as one might expect from someone of the Undead Tribe.

He must have already confirmed that Hill is of Kind Alignment to address him with such sincere tones, showing an entirely innocent facade.

Although Hill enjoyed conversing with him, he did not believe that the Magic Conductor was sent to the Lord’s Mansion afterwards.

The Gold Coin Commerce Guild might do something unorthodox for an Archbishop, but without the tacit approval of the Lord’s Mansion, they would never dare to set such a trap at their own auction.

Hogan’s grandmother might not want Santos returning and competing with her son, who has Mage Aptitude.

Of course, Hill thought this way because he was too familiar with the scheming among the nobles.

After all, Hogan even hesitated to mention how good the relationship was between his grandmother and Santos.

Clearly, the two were in a marriage of convenience rather than of love.

Santos had no great expectations for them; otherwise, knowing his descendants were near the Magic Tower, he wouldn’t have left just those things inside the tower.

What he wanted was merely to ensure his bloodline survived; as for the family name, he had no interest in continuing it—Santos might even be happier if the Bawudong family disappeared completely.

Hill suddenly let out a laugh.

”Dad, what are you laughing about?” Alice came over and asked curiously.

”I’m starting to wonder whether Mage Santos is really dead,” Hill said lightly. ”Taking all his apprentices away might also mean he no longer wanted to return.”

He could have ventured to settle in another country or even on an island.

Even if he were really unlucky and faced complete failure, in Reyes, he still had descendants alive.

Ah! Indeed, it’s impossible for such a great Archmage to be so impoverished! He simply didn’t want to continue building here anymore,” Hill mused.

Hill let out a satisfied sigh; he had always harbored some resentments about the supposed poverty of Santos.

”Why would Hill think that?” Alice blinked her big eyes. She had heard too much today and didn’t want to think anymore, ”Is there a clue in the Magic Tower?”

Hill nodded. Mage Santos was probably the person who collected the most comprehensive set of maps and history of the continent; he was very interested in islands.

Despite only skimming the surfaces, Hill, who had read every book, could still tell.

The control zones of the Orc Deity over the seas and the territorial control of the Goddess of the Sea were of particular interest to this great Archmage.

Hill hadn’t considered this before, but the task that prevented Santos from returning was indeed a delivery to a seaside city.

There, it was possible to be robbed by orc pirates, or even for the Goddess herself to cause a maritime disaster to extort money, thus requiring very strong protection forces.

But the divine power in that area was not as omnipresent as on the mainland.

And having read so much, as an Archmage who could ascend to level 17 on his own power, it was normal for him to have doubts about this world.

Hill thought it completely explained why a Magister, who worked so hard for a living, would end up so impoverished.

For a new homeland, maintaining just a superficial appearance was enough for this old Magic Tower.

Moreover, he hadn’t completely abandoned his old home—wasn’t there still an heir?

Santos might even have brought Lady Hogan to see his Magic Tower, so the Hogan family didn’t have a strong desire to inherit this tower.

Otherwise, with such a powerful and rich Magic Tower right under their noses, how could the Hogan family not feel tempted to act?

’If it wasn’t discovered, then I’d have made a profit,’ is the best excuse for greed.

Therefore, this seemingly unvaluable Magic Tower was the most suitable.

Hill thought back to what he had found in the Magic Tower at the beginning; although they didn’t seem like much, they were enough for a Mage who had just reached level 17.

At the very least, going out with a merchant caravan as a bodyguard would pose no problem.

Mage Santos was betting on his own luck; if that illegitimate child died earlier than the Magic Tower’s Array completely failed, then he was in profit.

”If he’s really alive, would he return?” Alice asked, looking up.

”Such a smart mage would only act as if he were long dead,” Hill smiled slightly. ”Besides, isn’t Mage Santos known for his good luck?”

Hill couldn’t help but stretch lazily. ”I’m also lucky. There probably isn’t a Magic Tower more suitable for me in this world—Santos originally left this tower as a way out for his descendants, completing all the basic knowledge for a mage for me.”

Alice laughed happily, ”Hill’s Dad always gets what he wants!”

”Sir.” List suddenly appeared, ”We have an unexpected visitor.”

When he appeared, he couldn’t help but glance at Alice.

”His Majesty the King, they released you so quickly?” Hill ground his teeth.

Alice’s smile gradually faded, ”Is it Merkel?”

Seeing List nod, she looked at Hill, ”Dad! Can I handle this myself? I’ve been preparing mentally for a long time, and I’ve thought over what to say many times.”
