Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 645: Chapter 443: Disguised Passerby, The Exploding Star Gate

The time for the Star Gate to open again soon arrived, and Hill anchored his ship beside it.

He intended to be among the first to enter, after all, if that Red Dragon really wanted to pass through, it would certainly be mingled in with the crowd.

But the charging arrival of Agleya made him stop in his tracks.

The Little Sea God had been quite unhappy ever since she learned that the leopard had broken through her blockade and made it here, looking ready to kill.

Hill acted a moment too late to stop her, and Agleya’s avatar was already charging at Merkel, her trident moving swiftly.

As Hill hurried to put away Marsha’s core box, his white-sailed ship was blasted into a wreck.

Alice, not wanting to be seen, could only float in mid-air, trying to erect a light wall for defense.

”Alice, put your puppets away,” Hill said to her, ”then hurry and take Merkel through the Star Gate, just wait for me on the other side.”

Alice clumsily switched off several puppets and put them into her Space Ring, then headed straight for the Star Gate. She was too pressed for time to care about the pointing fingers of the Undead Tribe.

The agile leopard leaped toward the Star Gate, multiple deep, bone-showing wounds on its body, but it still smashed through the Star Gate with Alice.

”Hill’s Dad!” Agleya called out with her trident raised, a displeased look on her face, ”Has Alice gone mad? Why is she still keeping him?”

Hill sighed helplessly and beckoned her over, ”Alright, Agleya, never mind their mess, it’s been a long time, let me have a good look at you.”

Agleya couldn’t help but tilt her head, looking at Hill, ”Hill’s Dad, are you saying that’s just a mess? I thought you would have slain that leopard?”

Watching as Agleya slowly approached, Hill activated the power of the Barrier within the Ring of Winter. Although the Ice Barrier was extremely cold, as long as it kept the excited Undead out, it was fine.

Only then did he resist the urge to stroke her hair, ”Alice and Merkel have signed a Magical Beast contract. Their affairs won’t be clear for hundreds of years.

I used to worry about Alice because the Monster Nation is bound to cause chaos, risking her very life.

But now it’s just the two of them, and whatever it turns into in the end, I don’t plan to interfere.

Breakups and makeups are common between men and women, and a father can’t control his daughter’s love life.”

Agleya wrinkled her nose, ”Alice really is boring. She’s not weak, yet she chooses to wallow in love.”

Her eyes twinkling mischievously, she said, ”Why bother taking it to heart when you can just enjoy the passion?”

Hill couldn’t help but pat her head, ”There are things that can be done, but not said, understand?”

Agleya pouted, ”How did Alice become a human? Is she giving up being a Spirit of Nature? Well, that’s normal, there are a few Spirits of Nature that indulge in love, she’s indeed one of a kind!

No wonder she looks like a cat, she was never quite normal to begin with.”

Hill sighed, ”The birth of a Spirit of Nature requires not only a pure soul but also a unique power. Do you remember where Spirits of Nature are born?”

Agleya looked up slightly, ”In forests and the wild, right?”

Hill flicked her forehead with his finger, ”In forests and wilds with Elemental Ore! Only when that Elemental Ore is fully matured can the life force born from it merge with a soul, becoming a Spirit of Nature.

Otherwise, with so many pure souls, Spirits of Nature would be everywhere!”

Countless children die young among humans throughout history, yet there are only less than a few dozen Spirits of Nature. They are influenced not only by their original souls but also by the Elemental Power that shaped them.

Agleya blinked, ”I remember, Master Fran seized his territory from that leopard, right?”

”Merkel occupied that mine for hundreds of years, and his aura was greatly influenced by it. Alice showed an affinity for him from the start. I always felt it might be because that mine was her birthplace,” Hill said without hiding his helplessness, ”It’s rare to find a second mixed-type Elemental Ore on the whole continent, so Alice’s capricious nature isn’t so strange after all.”

Agleya couldn’t help but snort, ”No wonder she awakened skills from both the Sun System and the Moon System—chaotic and colorful, fitting for her.”

”Let’s not worry about her,” Hill said with a smile, ”Alice won’t suffer, and love... some may be hurt so deeply that they can’t extricate themselves, but Alice isn’t one of them.”

Agleya nodded. As long as Alice was living well, she didn’t mind that fellow keeping a leopard as a lover.

She spun around energetically in front of Hill, ”Hill’s Dad! Have I gotten taller?”

Hill nodded, remarking with a sigh, ”In such a short time, you’re only half a head shorter than me now!”

”But Hill’s Dad, you chose to stop growing, right?” Agleya looked coyly, hanging on Hill’s arm, ”Haiweirsen is so tall! It wouldn’t have been a problem for you to keep growing taller.”

”You’re talking about the Ring of Winter?” Hill smiled helplessly, ”That has nothing to do with it; I’m naturally just this tall. Don’t forget the other bloodlines in my body.

If I hadn’t been sure that I couldn’t get any taller, that growing more would just make me look like this, I definitely would have let myself become a big burly fellow!”

Agleya’s face changed, ”Let’s not consider that, Hill’s Dad.”

Hill laughed uncontrollably, ”It seems Agleya doesn’t like knights very much, does she?”

Agleya wanted to deny it, but she hesitated and glanced at Spencer, who was standing at the entrance of the white palace, looking around. Could it be that her Hill’s Dad had always wished for her to grow into the robust stature of a knight, which was why he was on such good terms with the King of Saral and his lackey?

Agleya imagined it for a moment and shivered slightly. She quickly shook her head to cast that inopportune fantasy out of her mind, believing that her father’s handsome baby face was more suited to being a mage.

She quickly changed the subject and started to talk to Hill about Teraxil.

Hill walked slowly with Agleya towards the Star Gate, with many fervent gazes upon them.

The Undead Tribe was very excited to find out the identity of the blonde beauty. Could it really be Alice?

Upon realizing that Hill had opened the Isolation Array in full view of the public, most of the Undead Tribe turned and charged through the Star Gate, eager for a close-up view of the cat girl turned beauty.

But still, some stayed behind, staring intently at Hill and Agleya.

”Hill’s Dad, why are they staring at you like that?” Agleya asked in confusion. ”Haven’t the Undead Tribe already grown accustomed to your face?”

”Probably because Agleya is too pretty. If it wasn’t for Alice being alive and staying here, even more would be looking,” Hill said with a smile.

Alice and Agleya indeed represented two different styles of beauty.

Some liked sweet and cute, plus the allure of a cat girl, so they naturally rushed over to look at Alice.

But surely, there were also those who preferred the ethereal and detached style of a petite fairy. The cat girl could wait for another day, and once Agleya left Hill’s side, she wouldn’t easily reveal her true form again.

Agleya indifferently said, ”What’s the use of looking?”

Hill was extremely helpless: ”Agleya, please be considerate of your old father.” Even if you are dazzling, please don’t dance in front of me, alright?

”Don’t worry, Dad,” Agleya, resting her head on Hill’s shoulder, said with a smile. ”For now, I have no such interest. Enhancing my power is what I most want to do now.”

Hill nodded in agreement.

As he turned to speak with Agleya, he noticed that Spencer had come over and hurriedly nodded a greeting: ”Has His Majesty the King already left? Knight Spencer.”

”Yes, he’s already reached Teraxil,” Spencer said with a relaxed expression on his face. ”I can go back now too.”

Hill gently retreated with Agleya: ”You guys go ahead, Agleya and I will chat a bit more before leaving, as we won’t know when we’ll meet again.”

Spencer nodded and headed straight for the Star Gate.

Hill walked expressionlessly with Agleya towards where the Undead Tribe was crowding, many of them looking down at their tablets.

”Damn it!” With the explosion happening behind them, Hill couldn’t help but curse under his breath.

It was still too late.

Luckily, the group of Undead Tribe following them blocked most of the damage, but Hill and Agleya were still pulled into the vortex created by the Star Gate explosion.

Worriedly, Hill looked at Agleya, who was grasping his arm tightly, and struggled to concentrate on pulling her into the pendant.

”Hill’s Dad! Let me out, this is just a projection of myself!” Agleya shouted anxiously from inside the pendant.

”Stop shouting, you’ll distract me,” Hill cautioned and then fell silent.

The Ring of Winter was working hard to maintain the ice barrier, so Hill was relatively safe for the moment.

As expected, Agleya dared not shout anymore and sat anxiously in the pendant, waiting with the company of Li Si and Marsha.

Hill turned his attention to the battle over there.

The one disguised as Spencer had reverted to his prototype, and under the claw of the Chromatic Giant Dragon, the Red Dragon laughed manically as he spat out purple flames at the Star Gate which was on the verge of collapse.

”Have you gone mad?” Tiamat roared. ”If you die, do you think she can survive? The egg without a dragon’s nurturing?”

”Hehehehe~” The Red Dragon just sneered, continuing to spray flames wildly.

”No, you are not—” Hill didn’t hear the rest as he was swallowed by the intense explosion and pulled into the center of the vortex.

With all defenses up, Hill watched in trepidation as layer upon layer of arrays and magic shattered around him.

In his hand, he clenched his most important escape route, intently gazing at the Ice Armor that creaked under immense pressure.

The only thought in his mind was: has someone stolen his luck?
