Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 602: Chapter 400: The World Descending into the Abyss is Never Innocent

Looking at several members of the Undead Tribe he was quite familiar with, Hill took out some dessert juice to entertain them.

Clutching the juice, the ”Old Age Striking King” drank a big gulp and laughed heartily, ”But with Mr. Hill’s strength, there really wouldn’t be any problems! Now we can submit our mission! We really got lucky.”

Hill smiled softly, ”It seems like many people in Tevalon are from the Neutral Faction. Is that a bit troublesome?”

”Their Main God has become our enemy. So, most of them are hostile towards us, which makes them enemies, no matter the faction,” Junqi shook his head, ”and I don’t even know how it got out, saying that we from the Undead Tribe leave no survivors and love to slaughter cities.

The resistance was fierce on Reyes’s side. It wasn’t until later, when they found out that we didn’t harm any neutral civilians, that some people surrendered.

But almost all of that god’s followers died in battle.

Speaking of which, why would people in this country think that we are so ruthless? The families of those knights who died in battle almost committed collective suicide!”

”When you attacked those countries, did you destroy the Goddess of Gold Coins’ commerce guild as well, and kill all its members?” Hill asked thoughtfully.

”What Goddess of Gold Coins?” a Knight asked curiously, ”Isn’t there one god per country in this world? We didn’t cut down any deity called the Goddess of Gold Coins!

And when we kill, we only consider the color, no matter who it is. That country of Lady Venom, there were hardly any sane people, so they’re definitely wiped out.

Their country has the custom of cannibalism. Many children are fed ground human baby meat from birth, which is revolting, and we couldn’t accept it, so in the end, we almost completely killed off that country.

Other countries were fine, although they were also of the Evil Faction, they didn’t have such revolting customs.”

Hill suppressed the wave of disgust in his heart. How could the Goddess of Spring still be in the Neutral Faction? Could she still have followers? The citizens of the Spring Country must all be cursing her, right?

Gods of the Evil Faction would never be so shameless. Even though they’re very harsh on their followers, they would protect them from outsiders.

The ”Old Age Striking King” seemed to remember something and suddenly ran outside. Hill quickly sent a Puppet to follow, so he wouldn’t get lost after throwing up.

And clean up the mess by the way.

”We’re okay, but it’s a bit too much for the girls. Although demons also eat humans, it somehow doesn’t feel as disgusting. Maybe it’s because there are no corpses to see, and there aren’t those children who become part of the Evil Faction without understanding anything,” Junqi sighed lightly, ”We definitely went overboard there, practically killing everyone with even a hint of red in their names.

That Gold Coin Commerce Guild that Mr. Hill mentioned, probably died like that, too!” Hill was silent for a while, trying to calm the turmoil in his heart, seeing just a glimpse of why this world was slipping towards the Bottomless Abyss.

Even the Bottomless Abyss rarely sees countries that feed on their own kind!

”It’s rare for anyone in this world to offend the Goddess of Gold Coins. She is the only deity in this world that can issue currency; humans do not have the right to mint their own coins!” Hill looked at the ”Old Age Striking King” who had returned dispiritedly, pouring her a cup of steaming milk.

Yet the members of the Undead Tribe all looked bewilderedly at Hill.

”Haven’t you noticed that in this world, transactions can only be made with specific gold coins?” Hill took out the Blue Crystal Card and Gold Crystal Card to show them, ”These cards are a substitute for large sums of money.”

Listening to Hill’s detailed explanation, the members of the Undead Tribe looked at each other in confusion.

Junqi laughed awkwardly a few times and said deflatedly, ”No wonder when we used gold coins to make purchases, those merchants looked at us like we were robbing them. So they don’t recognize the gold coins from Teraxil, do they?”

Hill helplessly wiped his forehead, ”When you were in the Secretive Country, did you trade with Tevalon’s Wandering Traders? With your gold coins?”

The traders didn’t dare say anything at the time, because indeed, the reputation of the Undead Tribe was terrifying over here, and they were afraid of dying.

But knowing that the Undead Tribe had slain gods several times and still calling for their own Main God for rescue, isn’t that like the God of Travel was digging a pit for his own followers?

Of course, it could also be the God of Secrecy causing trouble, using the God of Travel as a shield, but without these followers, the god certainly wouldn’t take action voluntarily.

If the God of Travel had independent thoughts, he probably wouldn’t have gone. However, in this world, most deities are puppets of their divinity, so it’s normal for them to walk into their own demise.

The ”Old Age Striking King” said in an unbelievable tone, ”Their stuff was quite valuable. We even asked whether to pay with gold coins or crystal stones, and they chose gold coins themselves!”

Hill sighed, ”Then it can only be considered bad luck for the God of Travel.”

”Are the gods of this world so approachable?” another Knight asked incredulously, ”A god personally steps in for a merchant’s money?

Isn’t that like I walked out on a meal, and the other party brought out an Electric Cannon?”

”You said it yourself, it’s an Electric Cannon!” the ”Old Age Striking King” answered crisply, ”Not an antimatter cannon, which only the officials can use. As for the Electric Cannon, wealthy people can manage to get their hands on a couple.”

Hill felt that the comparison was somewhat off but seemed to make sense?

”The gods of this world are strange,” Junqi concluded, ”No wonder Old Dog always says they are almost like children’s toys, not very smart. To avoid trouble, many functions were reduced.

This world might be some kind of playground a True God created for their children, huh?”

Hill was taken aback. Was this what the Undead Tribe thought?

The difference between a testing ground and a playground is significant.

He gathered his thoughts and stopped pondering that; with the ability and number of the Undead Tribe, the result would probably be seen very soon.

But as a human, Hill wished it was a chessboard with deities as pawns, where each move was made to achieve a certain goal.

Not some trivial game where both deities and humans were mere tools for amusement.

That would be a disgrace even in death.

”Mr. Hill,” Junqi suddenly spoke with a serious tone, ”William has sent a message asking that you stay within the Magic Tower for now, and wait until we’ve cleared out the nearby enemies before venturing out.”

”I don’t have any other requirements,” Hill said indifferently, ”but I’d trouble you with something—I want to collect the books of this world.”

”No problem,” the Old Age Striking King said cheerfully. ”Baldy told us to collect any book we come across in this world, especially those exceptionally luxurious and noble magic books.

Since we know Mr. Hill is here too, then the books must have value.

Compared to the last world, Gerns, you should enjoy the books of this world more, right?”

Hill nodded contentedly, ”Of course, even duplicates are fine, I’ll collect them all. But this world doesn’t have much in the way of valuable alchemy equipment, aside from a few special materials, I won’t collect much else.”

”We understand,” Junqi scratched his head, ”Special materials, you mean those marked as products of Felunryel? I don’t see much difference from those of Teraxil.”

”The composition of materials is merely a matter of differing proportions, which could lead to quite opposite effects,” Hill replied with a smile, ”That slight difference is something an alchemist could calculate for ages and still possibly not achieve, yet nature does it with ease.

As long as they’re available, no matter how little, I will collect them.

But, I don’t have much money in this world, so for particularly expensive items, we better settle with crystal stones.

The gold coins of this world only have value in this world.

Crystal stones are what always retain their value.

The traders you’ve encountered before were probably either low-level or harbored ulterior motives, otherwise they would not have failed to see the value of Elemental Crystals.

For them, Elemental Crystals can also be considered a kind of barter.”

The Undead Tribe made a few disinterested ’ohs’ and ’ahs’.

A few of them were fervently scribbling on their tablets, likely informing their compatriots that the gold coins given by William were no longer of use.

Speaking of which, thanks to the Undead Tribe’s generous spending, Saral Gold Coins seemed to be on the verge of dominating the entire world.

However, that doesn’t mean other countries don’t have their own currency, it’s just that many people prefer to settle international transactions with Saral Gold Coins.

After all, Saral has retracted the nobility’s rights to mint currency; the gold content in Saral Gold Coins is relatively stable and considered high throughout the entire Teraxil.

The Dwarf Kingdom’s dropped super mines all ended up in Saral’s hands, and nobody else could compete for them, given the significantly different mining methods.

All they had to do was to repeatedly harvest swarms of Emerald Butterflies.

Those green plants, once plucked, could be thrown into furnaces to decompose into various metals found in the occupied mines.

Yet countries unaware of how to harvest these plants could only watch as the Saral People reaped their bountiful harvest from time to time.

Those flowers, while seemingly tender, are tough to harm without knowing the proper methods, as they can withstand burning and cutting.

Unless a Sky Knight wielding high-level weapons personally did the harvesting, few countries could afford the exorbitant cost of hiring them.

Most crucially, the price Saral charges for minerals is not high, far less than what it would cost to hire a Sky Knight for such work.

Now that Saral mints its own gold coins, as long as those Dwarf Mines remain in their control, their supply of gold coins will be inexhaustible.

But what Hill couldn’t understand was the fact that the Undead Tribe had been in this world for several months; did they really not know about the gold coin issue?

They seemed to have made purchases, but only using Saral Gold Coins and crystal stones.

Hill tried to think with the logic of this world.

Could it be that they assumed the Undead Tribe wanted to seize the divinity of gold coins because they destroyed commerce guilds like Golden Era? Or was there someone who wanted to make the Undead Tribe enemies of the ever-standing Goddess of Gold Coins?
