Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 623: Chapter 421: Hill with a Longing for Nesser

Hill’s pleasant life was indeed disrupted by List.

Although he considered ignoring it, he still furrowed his brows and turned off the soundproof array, ”What’s the matter?”

”The Undead Tribe has sent a message. Merkel has arrived. Currently, he is detained by His Majesty the King at the Star Gate.” After struggling for a while, List finally knocked on the door; he heard that William had locked Merkel up in a cage.

List couldn’t gauge Hill’s true feelings towards Merkel, so he hurried to report the news.

Hill was stunned for a moment, glanced at the pendant he was holding—Alice was asleep, lying on the plush sofa, curled up close to the armrest.

”His Majesty the King, he hasn’t harmed him, has he?”

”They say he’s locked in a cage, hanging from the ceiling of the great hall.” List tried to control his curiosity. Hill’s attitude seemed truly odd.

He described in detail the information received from the Undead Tribe, especially the fact that Merkel had already dispersed his Divinity.

”As long as he’s not dead. Besides, how could the King of Saral do something so foolish?” Hill snorted with a sneer, ”Foolish leopard!

Blinded by false victories, did they fight for the war?

They acquired such vast lands without paying a sufficient price; even the Wolf Tribe, who entered the fray from the outset, doesn’t have a domain as big as theirs!

His subordinates, who haven’t endured the cruelty of war, how could they fear Alice’s power?

The mismatch between ambition and ability results in this end.”

But my Alice, why should she pay the price for their ambition?”

They? List slowly pondered the word, coming to a realization.

The statues of White Wolf God and Lake Goddess have always stood erect in their valley! Is this a repeated trick from the side of human deities?

Hill gently picked up the dagger on the table, deftly spinning it into a flourish.

”Merkel’s fate is up to Alice to decide,” his lips curled into a grim smile, ”But before that, I need a leather sheath for the knife. Black would be best!”

Initially, the human powers led by the King of Saral even handed over all the territories outside the mining fields to those Magical Beasts, and Hill knew then that they had a scheme against them.

The nature of Magical Beasts could be seen from the era of White Wolf God; they are even more selfish and greedy.

Why did Silvermoon Wolf God have no intention of following in his brother’s footsteps, choosing only a Racial God instead? Aside from worrying about possible harm from Human Gods, it’s also because other Magical Beasts of different species are simply not trustworthy.

Back then, it was their Wolf Tribe that followed White Wolf God to death.

Most of the other Magical Beasts died at the hands of Dwarves afterward.

Therefore, Hill has always been disinterested in the affairs of the Monster Nation; its downfall was certain after they carelessly took over the entire Dwarf Kingdom.

For Hill, who has always been wary of Magical Beasts, some things are better dealt with earlier. At least Alice hasn’t sunk too much cost yet and won’t feel too reluctant about leaving Merkel.

If they become gods later, they could have children! What should Alice do if something like this happens again?

But Hill hopes for Alice to enjoy the fruits of love for a while longer, instead of seeing it all collapse after a hard struggle.

So he has already treated that leopard as if it were dead. If Alice doesn’t want him, what does that leopard amount to?

However, Hill really didn’t expect Merkel to actually come after her; whatever the reason, it seems he does have some true feelings for Alice.

”So we leave it for now?” List asked hesitantly, ”It doesn’t seem right to have him hanging there in the human Royal Palace, does it? If Alice still...”

”That’s Merkel’s own business now. At least his life isn’t at stake. If he decides to seek revenge in the future, that’s none of my concern.

Even if Alice eventually forgives him and they seek revenge together,

I will at most craft a few more weapons and equipment for Alice,” said Hill coldly, ”Why would the King of Saral and those human Gods think that after they have hurt my Alice, I would still cooperate with them amicably?”

Hill let out a sneer from deep within his throat, ”If they think Uncle Adrian has a great influence over me, then they’re sorely mistaken!

Apart from my maternal grandfather, I can discard everything from Saral!”

List stood solemnly, truly not expecting Hill to one day utter such words!

For Hill, everything from his previous life indeed greatly influenced him; his fondness for the God of Time and Space and William also stemmed from this.

Especially William, Hill has always felt an extraordinary kinship towards him, and List knew why.

And his human identity is something he could never let go of.

Otherwise, with Hill’s attributes, he would have set upon the path to godhood a long time ago.

List quietly bowed his head.

The matter concerning Alice seems to have slightly altered Hill’s attitude towards the human Gods.

”I was wrong before,” said Hill coolly, ”I forgot that I am a free Mage and placed my relationship with the human Gods too close.

Gods, no matter the faction, are always overreaching.”

At first, I was only worried about the existence of the Undead Tribe, so I planned to feign compliance!

How did I almost become one of their faction?

I guess I still miss everything about that world, even the Undead from different worlds felt familiar to me.

From now on, I should let go of some things.”

List almost sighed; Hill’s rage during this period was only being suppressed by reason.

It was even a bit extreme, and he only hoped that, after Hill vented his anger, he would be able to calm down. Otherwise, Hill would certainly regret it later.

List didn’t believe that Hill could give up everything from his past; those were his eternal treasures in his heart.

Hill looked indifferently at the sky outside the window; once certain things were spoken aloud, it seemed impossible to suppress the anger.

He could understand why William and the God of Time and Space stood with the Magical Beasts against them this time. No matter how good his relationship with William, they would not abandon their racial opposition.

But what angered Hill was that they thought it was acceptable to target his beloved daughter Alice without even informing Hill... He could understand racial wars and would remain silent during them, but if they went after his daughter and kept it a secret from him, what did that mean?

It was as if there were no issues at all with Alice not being openly attacked!

Hill didn’t care about making concessions in terms of materials, he truly embodied the detachment of considering wealth as something external.

But when it came to people he truly cared about, Hill wouldn’t think it didn’t matter.

Although William sensed that Hill was somewhat dissatisfied with the situation, he still took it too lightly.

For him and the God of Time and Space, personal affections and small loves would never outweigh matters of state. Thus, he believed Hill would forgive the Human God, especially those two who acted directly, after being angry for a while.

After all, after seeing the Magical Beasts occupying most of the Dwarf Kingdom, Hill showed no sign of warning Merkel.

But Hill’s silence was under the premise that William’s methods were aboveboard.

It was Merkel and his followers who blundered into it, lured by interests, and all the more so for the Magical Beasts, who were blinded by greed.

However, the direct action taken against Alice struck Hill’s fatal weakness.

Initially lacking in power and becoming a pawn for the World Will, he was very dissatisfied.

His only resistance could be to become Legendary as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, he later discovered that the World Will liked to use him because he was its own offspring, born to work for it.

Hill had nothing to say and resigned himself to his fate.

But now that he had become so powerful and believed he could protect all those he cared about...

The incident with Alice was like a slap in the face!

Just because he was usually gentle and identified with the human race, they could take Alice as a pawn and dispose of her without saying a word?

Hill felt they took him for too gentle.

So he simply left William’s protection and came out to seek a new direction for his research.

Hill no longer wished to let William know him so well and understand him so deeply.

The God of Nobility and the Goddess of Love, huh?

The day he returned to Teraxil, he would settle the score with them!

Hill glanced at the dagger in his hand; the runes and array on the Dragon Fang gave him plenty of new inspirations to delve into thoroughly.

He hoped that one day he could set up a Great Magic Formation capable of sealing off the Divine Kingdom!

Then, let those two experience what it felt like to look out of their window in utter disgracement.

”Sir,” List couldn’t help but ask, ”If the Undead are sent to the Toril Universe, do you plan to follow them?”

Hill used to fear that world like a tiger, and when he left Teraxil, he said he would never go to Ferun. However, List felt that Hill had changed his mind.

”List, how powerful do you think that Great Archmage who could perish together with the Goddess of Magic is? The story of Nesser now holds great appeal to me.

Sometimes, even if the forces behind you are strong, you still need to be formidable yourself.

If I had a Floating City that could fire indefinitely, wouldn’t many problems automatically bypass me?” Hill paused for a while before answering.

”So, you’re saying that if the Teraxil World Tree consults you on the attitude towards sending the Undead to Toril, you wouldn’t object, right?” List asked, looking down.

”Why do you say that?” Hill was curious, ”Is there something I don’t know?”

”Originally, Coron intended to buy the Undead from Teraxil, but the God of Time and Space and the King of Saral were unwilling.

After all, they have contributed a lot to the current state of Teraxil, so the World Tree rejected this proposal.”

Hill listened intently, waiting for his ’but’.
