Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 646: Chapter 444 Unexpected and Expected

Fortunately, the Ring of Winter, a Divine Artifact even powerful Divine Powers coveted, was reinforced again and again, and the armor held up.

Hill, looking at several Light Gates connected by the vortex, couldn’t afford to care which world they led to anymore, and exerted all his strength to move towards the outskirts of the vortex.

Although the speed of the vortex increased and the force of its impact grew the further out he moved, Hill, who was very familiar with tornados, knew well that while the source might indeed be safe, it was uncertain where that place would lead.

He had no desire to test whether the Bottomless Abyss liked Nature Warlocks as the legends suggested.

Hill truly had to be thankful for his formidable strength; his body was strong enough to withstand such assaults.

Otherwise, even with the Ice Armor, the vibrations would have been enough to end his life.

If he couldn’t hold on, he would have been pulled into the center of the vortex along with those unlucky ones.

Hill saw the two Giant Dragons; they had enough strength, but their immense weight, as well as being at the center of the vortex where it opened, meant they were quickly sinking.

The Undead Tribe that got caught up in it were decisive; those on the outside were swept away to death, likely heading to whatever world they were closest to.

Those sucked into the interior of the vortex disappeared back to Teraxil, being too far from the God of Time and Space’s Divine Artifact.

For once, Hill envied the Undead Tribe.

Although he saw several Paladins still struggling, Hill could only offer them his sympathy, but at least these legendary tin cans should have their own Main Gods trying to save them by all means.

The Holy Warriors who dared to stand and monitor the Star Gate at this time should be devout followers highly cherished by the Deities.

As Hill was about to reach the outer perimeter, he caught a glimpse from the corner of his eye of a Demigod Level Holy Warrior trying to lasso a passing companion with a rope.

After persisting in the vortex for half an hour, Hill finally spotted a Light Gate nearest to him.

The Light Gate had begun to waver and become ethereal, which Hill knew meant that the Star Path connecting multiple universes was close to collapsing completely.

Even leaving through the Star Gate wouldn’t guarantee reaching a real port but would land him somewhere random.

But still, Hill decided to trust his luck once more, for energy is always conserved, and so should luck be.

He had been unfortunate once; shouldn’t that exchange for a great stroke of luck!

Hill grabbed the edge of the Star Gate and found the seemingly ethereal rays to be quite firm.

Although unsure of the material used to create this Star Gate, Hill sensed the presence of nature and light in it.

Hill bound himself to the side of the Star Gate with those light lines, floating over a meter long, then took out a rope woven from the fibers of Crystal Flower ancestors.

Once the light ropes from the Star Gate are woven in, this rope could never be unwound again.

Reluctant as he was to use it because this was material for making a Demi-God Artifact! But with the same ropes accumulated over the years numbering in the thousands, Hill couldn’t consider wealth more important than life.

This Light Gate probably wouldn’t last another 12 hours, and if those Holy Warriors fell into the Abyss, they most certainly wouldn’t survive.

Dying elsewhere allowed at least for the soul to return to the Divine Kingdom, but the Abyss had countless ways to keep and defile their souls.

That fate, worse than death, was why those Holy Warriors dared not lose consciousness and none wished to abandon their companions.

Hill carefully wove the light lines tightly into the Crystal Flower rope, then pulled hard, and if it did not budge even with his strength, then this ten-meter rope should be able to pull those tin cans.

Quick to spot the approaching Demigod Holy Warrior on his side, Hill swung his right hand forcefully, sending the transparent yet sparkling rope directly in front of him several meters ahead.

The Holy Warriors, of course, had noticed the Mage who was about to escape.

However, for Tyr’s Holy Balance Knights, they had long given up on asking Hill for help; they didn’t dare believe there would be any Mage well-disposed towards them.

Not seizing the opportunity to give them a push directly into Abyssal Hell was already a sign of good character.

To actually be rescuing someone!

Even the Demigod paused for a second before lunging forward to grasp the rope just before it was almost pulled back by the vortex.

Hill chose him not just because he was close to the outer perimeter while trying to save his companion but also because he had enough strength to move in the vortex, even if it was just a few meters.

Others were doing well to stay put and not get dragged down.

Hill watched for a bit longer, and the Demigod Holy Warrior had already used the rope he carried to secure several companions.

Now with a means to survive, he tested the rope’s strength with a tug and began leaping to his companion’s position to save them.

The Holy Warriors of Tyr were indeed valiant, with one companion nearly reached the center and about to be sucked down; he didn’t hesitate and charged over.

And wisely, he used his own rope to tie up his comrades, not intending to make Hill pull them as well.

Hill smiled; although Tyr’s subordinates were notorious for their rigid minds and stiff styles, at least they were upright and honorable.

Even when their lives were in danger, they didn’t threaten the lives of others to save themselves.

Rescuing their companions was their own matter; they were grateful for any help from others.

Seizing the moment when that guy again reached his side, Hill put on the Crystal Flower gloves and started tugging on the rope, one pull after another.

The Demigod clad in iron initially busied himself ensuring the rope tied to his companion could hold, and didn’t notice anything amiss until he was pulled to the outermost edge of the vortex within a few tugs.

His gaze towards Hill was filled with gratitude yet tinged with confusion.

Hill gave one final tug, leaving the Demigod Holy Warrior hanging on the Star Gate, then nodded and bade him farewell.

Although the Demigod Holy Warrior wanted to stay, he glanced at the Star Gate, which was already flickering uncertainly, and decided to give up, giving Hill a significant nod in return.

Before Hill turned to leap out of the Star Gate, he saw another face flash through the eyes of the Demigod.

The old man with a bandaged eye was smiling at Hill.

He couldn’t help but be startled. Was this guy an avatar incarnation of Tyr?

Even though passing through the Star Gate was an unpleasant and jarring experience, Hill still wondered if it was because of his constant concern for his own safety in Ferun that he got caught in this big trouble?

Even Tyr couldn’t barge directly into a damaged Star Gate to save his subordinate; that would only result in an instant massive explosion, leaving no chance for survival for anyone inside.

That’s why those two dragons, though still entangled in battle, would rather plunge into the Abyss than use their Dragon Spell Magic.

And although Hill could instantly create a path of ice, he dared not use it either, instead continuously renewing a layer of Ice Armor only 1 centimeter thick on his body.

The Ring of Winter’s power was discrete and low-key, far from being able to elicit a reaction from the vortex.

Everyone had to rely on their own strength.

So if these Holy Warriors fell into the Abyss, even Tyr would find it unbearably painful.

To become an avatar incarnation for Tyr, nurturing a single Demigod would cost him thousands of years of accumulation.

Besides, they were also the most devout believers, the kind that might charge into the Abyss to save others for Tyr.

Hill’s actions, though out of kindness, made him quite happy to receive a better reward.

In the future, especially when on Ferun Great Land, should there be any enemy he couldn’t defeat, Hill could directly rush to the Temple of Tyr’s Hand to save his life!

Hill, plummeting from mid-air, exerted a great deal of effort to unfold his Wings of Wind and Thunder.

He floated, stunned in mid-air, gazing at the vast endless Weave opening before him.

Though the vision was due to his Mental Sea’s reverberation, it was more stunning than anything the eye could see.

He thought he knew where he had arrived, and didn’t need to wait for the future.

There was only a one-in-five chance, but he had reached Toril, the very place he wanted to visit later; the first order of business was to find out which continent he was on.

However, whatever the Red Dragon intended, its plans must have utterly failed now.

Hill soothed Agleya inside the pendant, asking her to inform the Tower Spirit Magic Plants that he was safe, then quietly descended towards the vast forest below.

Thankfully, this primal forest had no master; Hill directly reached out to a giant tree for communication, and was soon allowed to enter its heart space for rest.

Fortunately, his Force of Nature had not been affected.

Having found a sufficiently safe spot, Hill readily stretched out his spiritual power to connect with the Weave.

When he used the Wings of Wind and Thunder, it took nearly six times longer than before, despite it being an inherent spell inscribed in his Mental Sea.

If he couldn’t gain recognition from the Toril Universe, Hill’s casting speed would probably be no better than an average Mage.

Hill had thought he might attract the attention of Mystra, the Goddess of Magic, but found no reaction whatsoever.

He was a bit overconfident.

While Hill’s spiritual power quickly reached the essence of the world through the Weave, he merely obtained recognition from the source, with no special manifestations.

For Mystra, who had seen countless Mages, a Legendary Mage like Hill didn’t even register in terms of Destructive Power. And unless someone could threaten the safety of the Weave, even the most powerful Mage wouldn’t warrant her notice.

Hill laughed at himself, then began to inquire with the accepting tree about the surrounding environment.

Let’s not mention other things; just please, no Dragons.

He touched a ring with an odd design on his left hand; Hill wasn’t afraid of the Giant Dragons, but once they went mad, it was to the death.

Hill knew that he would be merciless with enemies, but he didn’t want to confront Dragons driven to irrationality out of desperation.

Then Hill extracted a spell from his mind: to confirm his location.

His knowledge of this world’s map wasn’t very precise, but he could at least determine which continent he was on.

As expected, it was Ferun.
