Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 664: Chapter 485: Four Assassins_3

Gu Huaichun: ”They’re keeping a very tight leash on me now, and it’s a broad one too—they won’t let me have one-on-one contact with partners, nor do they agree to let me meet with directors and producers privately.”

”They’re worried about you being poached?”

”Various reasons, I guess.”

”Anyway, you need to have a backup plan. If—I mean if—one day you’re no longer popular, and you have no market, and all your connections and channels are with Yuehai, you’ll need help from others for a comeback. But if Yuehai abandons you, then it’s game over.” Zhou Yun said, ”And to be honest, I’ve never really liked those people from Yuehai. There’s just something off about their corporate culture.”

Gu Huaichun laughed, flashing a grin of shared heroism, ”I feel the same way.”

The two continued their chat while looking for books.

Soon, Zhou Yun had five books in her hands.

”I’m going to buy these.” She said.

Gu Huaichun nodded, ”Then let’s go check out.”

While they were at the checkout, the pair, both in matching sunglasses and hats, attracted even more sidelong glances.

But they left the bookstore before anyone could recognize them.

”You heading home? Want a ride?” Gu Huaichun asked.

”I drove myself.”

”Oh, you got your license?”

”Yeah, got it awhile back; you’re really out of the loop.”

”Who cares if you got your license or not.” Gu Huaichun teased.

Zhou Yun laughed.

”I’m not going to keep jabbering with you, I’m heading back.”

Little did they know, someone had snapped a photo of them and posted it online, claiming that they’d spotted Zhou Yun and Gu Huaichun on a bookstore date and that she had broken up with Song Chi.

However, nobody took it seriously.

Everyone knew that Zhou Yun and Gu Huaichun were friends. If two celebrities were really dating, who would choose a bookstore as their rendezvous?

Gu Huaichun posted a tweet with two photos—one of the books he bought that evening, and the other of the bookstore receipt showing the time, place, and book titles, with a caption: A serendipitous encounter while buying books, no cues please.

Yuk Chu saw the news and posted a selfie with Zhou Yun under Gu Huaichun’s tweet: Just said goodbye to Xiao Yun and then bumped into you. If you had said earlier you were at the mall, I would have included you for dinner.

Zhou Yun appeared in the comments, replying to Yuk Chu: Even if he’d said, he still wouldn’t have been invited.

Gu Huaichun responded with a middle finger emoji.

Song Chi chimed in late, asking Zhou Yun: Can I come along then?

Zhou Yun: I’m on a date with Xiao Chu, you guys can go on your own.

Gu Huaichun: Since Brother Chi got rejected too, I feel relieved.

Song Chi replied to Gu Huaichun: Meet you under your building tonight, followed by an emoji with a big knife.

Gu Huaichun: Hiding, hiding.

The witty exchange between them brought great joy to the netizens.

Everyone also came to understand the whole story.

Zhou Yun’s fans said: Anyone who knows even a little about Zhou Yun knows that Zhou Yun’s first film was shot with Gu Huaichun. If they could have been together, it would have happened long ago. Back then, everyone said they were a screen couple, and even that didn’t make them a real couple.

Zhou Yun liked that tweet. Seeing that, everyone understood what that like meant.

But still, some posted on Weibo: But, doesn’t anyone find it odd that Zhou Yun, already dating Song Chi and not single, still meets up with Gu Huaichun frequently?

The comments under this tweet were polarized.

One side saw nothing strange about it, arguing that even if one is in a relationship or married, it doesn’t mean cutting ties with former friends completely, as long as proper boundaries are maintained, and others shouldn’t interfere too much.

The other side agreed with this view, thinking Zhou Yun, now with Song Chi, should keep her distance from other men and not be so close.

The debate was fierce.

Some said: What kind of era is this where women are expected not to step outside, to break contact with all men once they’re married?

Some retorted: Then why do so many women insist their boyfriends delete other women from their WeChat?

Some countered: We never ask our boyfriends to delete women with whom they have normal social relationships, but what about those women who maintain ambiguity without any real social ties? Aren’t they just there for cheating?

Some argued: Doesn’t that prove you also believe men in relationships should keep their distance from other women?

Some responded: How has Zhou Yun not maintained distance from Gu Huaichun? If they’re seen entering hotels alone, that’s not keeping distance. But them being in a public place like a bookstore, even if they meet there on purpose, so what?
