Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 642: Chapter 640: Airborne Troops—Gray Yaksha

Upon the reminder from Eldest Princess Anna, Gu Xi immediately reacted, realizing it was not time to let his guard down.

Although he had the upper hand at the moment, the main forces of the nearby Yaksha had yet to make their appearance.

”Retreat inwards, Skeleton Shooters quickly take your positions, prepare to face an even larger battle.”

Under Gu Xi’s command, the troops that had halted their advance to fight the Yaksha once again moved toward their originally planned battlefield.

As for the remaining Yaksha here, the leftover Undead Corps would naturally handle them.

Gu Xi had no need to leave all of his troops here to await the battle’s outcome.

With his subordinates, Gu Xi quickly entered the open space that had just been encircled.

Arriving there, Gu Xi immediately deployed the Soul Summoning Tower.

With the Soul Summoning Tower in the battlefield, Gu Xi could replenish his forces at the first opportunity.

Even a slight reinforcement would be beneficial for the future battle situation.

As Gu Xi set down the Soul Summoning Tower, a group of Flying Yaksha suddenly appeared in the sky.

This was the fourth type of troop among the Yaksha.

It was evident that this flying team had a higher level and status than the Yaksha outside the Earth Demon Cave. Apart from anything else, just their armor was different from the previous two types of Yaksha, who draped tents over themselves.

Instead, they used a cloak woven from feathers as their armor.

The weapons in their hands were a kind of short Curved Saber.

Clearly, they were a troop with extremely high mobility, relying on short-distance strikes to inflict damage and fight.

With this situation, a thought suddenly occurred to Gu Xi.

”This type of troop likely has low life force.”

With this thought, Gu Xi immediately raised his Cold Wind Staff.

”Death Witch Summoning!”

In three consecutive casts, Gu Xi summoned thirty Necromancers.

Once these Necromancers appeared, Gu Xi positioned them around the Soul Summoning Tower.

”Follow me and use Bone Curtain to fortify the last defense on the City Wall.”

Under Gu Xi’s command, all the Necromancers, along with Gu Xi, cast the Bone Curtain spell.

The first wave of Bone Curtain, naturally, blocked the sky, addressing the biggest issue in this area, while also halting the incoming Flying Yaksha team.

Then all the Necromancers began to place Bone Curtains on the newly built City Wall.

As they erected the Bone Curtains, Gu Xi assigned them a new task, ensuring they replaced any missing sections swiftly.

They did not need to take action otherwise.

With the Bone Curtain in place, the speed of the Flying Yaksha slowed.

These Yaksha were no fools.

They clearly understood that the suddenly rising Bone Curtain was specifically to counter their flying team.

It seemed that Gu Xi had thoroughly fortified his city defenses to the maximum.

Originally, they intended to fly into the city and ambush the brave fighting forces inside, but now, they had to find other methods.

Just then, the Scarecrows positioned at the Garrison Gate took action.

They possessed net-throwing abilities, and as a ranged force, they had certain expertise in anti-air combat.

When Gu Xi positioned the City Gate, he anticipated potential flying units from the Yaksha, so he aligned the Garrison Gate with the City Wall facing the Earth Demon Cave.

These Scarecrows were able to spot the incoming flying units at the first opportunity.

Initially, the Flying Yaksha’s speed was too fast for the Scarecrows to pinpoint their location.

But once Gu Xi’s Bone Curtain rose and they paused in the sky, the Scarecrows seized the chance, throwing their nets out directly.

A flock of crows then took flight, attacking the airborne forces.

This was one of the advantages the Scarecrows held over other shooters.

Other archer teams couldn’t reach targets beyond a certain height or distance.

But the Scarecrows were different; their released crows could attack from any distance, and their assaults were continuous.

The crows, upon release, immediately engaged in a struggle with the Flying Yaksha.

Unluckily for the Yaksha, some were ensnared by the nets, with their wings trapped, rendering them unable to fly.

Under such conditions, fighting the crows was naturally impossible.

Unable to combat in such situations, they were struck down to the ground by the crows and then dragged away by the Tree Pit of the Dead, becoming part of it.

Of course, some Yaksha were unaffected by the net attacks, and when faced with the crow assaults, they used their superior agility to dodge and then sliced through the charging crows with their sabers.

This air battle indeed showcased the capabilities of the Flying Yaksha to Gu Xi.

Their life force might not be strong, but their mobility and attack speed were indeed high.

If they could be slowed down, then these flying units wouldn’t be challenging to deal with.

Gu Xi pondered this and then glanced back at the battlefield behind him.

As the Flying troops were blocked by Gu Xi, the battle at the rear was unaffected and was nearing conclusion.

Seeing that the rear was secure, Gu Xi finally felt at ease and then performed the Death Witch Summoning three more times, summoning thirty Necromancers.

Gu Xi then commanded these Necromancers, ”Follow me and use Death Ripple!”

Upon hearing Gu Xi’s command, the Necromancers quickly gathered around the Soul Summoning Tower, following Gu Xi’s lead to cast Death Ripple, using the Soul Summoning Tower as the center and the Necromancers as channels.

This wave of Death Ripple extended to at least over three hundred meters.

The Yaksha in the sky naturally weren’t spared.

This time, Gu Xi finally saw what he wanted to see.

These Flying Yaksha, with their weak life force, were effectively countered by Death Ripple.

With Gu Xi’s high intelligence and the assistance of so many Necromancers, the power of Death Ripple was heightened by a few degrees.

With one wave, at least more than half of the Yaksha were killed, crashing to the ground.

At the same time, Gu Xi learned the name of these Yaksha.

[You have slain a Gray Yaksha (Level 8), gaining 191 Experience points.]

As the Gray Yaksha fell, the Scarecrows at the Garrison Gate started releasing new crows again, adept at seizing the opportunity to attack any remaining Gray Yaksha to accrue enough experience for their upgrades.

With each Gray Yaksha slain, Gu Xi observed that one of the Scarecrows stationed at the Garrison Gate underwent a transformation, with copious amounts of blood dripping from the straw, eventually forming a Blood Armor.
