Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 148, Second Profession Branches

Translator: Silavin

Seeing that Lu Fan had reached Level 30, Han Ke, Qin Qiu, and the others accompanying him were all happy for him.

After such intense Levelling and Dungeon Instance clearing, everyone’s Levelling speed was very fast.

Lu Fan was at Level 30, and Jian Ying was at Level 29, probably only needing a few more days to reach Level 30 as well.

Qin Qiu and Tao Xiaoman were both at Level 26, and even Han Ke, who has a Non-Combat Specialised Profession, was at Level 22, with much Higher Attributes than before.

Lu Fan had the Highest Level among everyone and was also the first to reach Level 30, eligible for his Second Profession Change.

Everyone was quite excited about the Second Profession Change. Seeing that Lu Fan had reached the Level for his Second Profession Change, everyone was thrilled and immediately wanted to accompany him to the Profession Change Hall for his Second Profession Change. They were all curious about what new Profession Lu Fan would change into after his Second Profession Change.

Dragon Tamer was already a Hidden Profession, and no one had ever awakened its Profession Characteristics. So far, there were no records of any Dragon Tamer undergoing their Second Profession Change.

Once Lu Fan underwent his Second Profession Change, he would definitely make history.

Seeing that it was only afternoon and everyone was excited to see him undergo his Second Profession Change, Lu Fan directly decided. [Alright. No more Dungeon Instances, let’s go for my Second Profession Change first!]

The group exited the Dungeon Instance and headed straight for Dragon Capital University’s Profession Change Hall.

The Second Profession Change did not require a Priest to perform Profession Awakening. They just needed to use a Profession Change Array instead, which needed peculiar materials to construct. One could only undergo Second Profession Change after entering the Array.

If done outside, the materials needed for one Second Profession Change would conservatively cost about 5 million Dragon Coins. Even then, one might not have the right method to construct the Profession Change Array.

This was where the importance of being in a good University was highlighted.

Dragon Capital University’s Profession Change Hall completely eliminated unnecessary troubles for students. Whether for Second Profession Change or even Third Profession Change, they could just directly come here.

Of course, Profession Change was not without conditions; it required consuming a certain amount of University Points, which could always be gathered somehow.

Since Lu Fan was someone who did not lack University Points, he did not need to worry about his Second Profession Change. As long as he reached the Level Requirement, he could immediately have his Second Profession.

Dragon Capital University’s Profession Change Hall was not very large, and there were not many people.

After Lu Fan and the others arrived, Lu Fan first registered, had his University Points deducted for the Profession Change, and just needed to wait for his turn.

Those Level 30 Profession Change Players waiting here all had excited expressions. When their names were called, they would go to the exclusive rooms in the Profession Change Hall for their Second Profession Change.

“…Hahaha, I’m a Ranger now! I will be as graceful as the wind from now on. I won’t have to fear Assassins in PvP anymore!”

“You actually chose Ranger for your Second Profession? I thought you’d become a Arrow God, that’s why I changed to Guardian Knight. Now what? Who’s going to be our Main Damage Dealer when we clear Monsters?”

“Ah, dealing damage is easy! Didn’t our other team member become a Fire Mage? With him as our Main Damage Dealer, clearing Dungeon Instance will be a breeze, right?”

“That’s true. But you’re really stubborn. You know Rangers aren’t in demand for Dungeon Instances nowadays, yet you still chose it.”

“What’s wrong with Rangers? Rangers might not have as high Damage Output as Arrow Gods, but they’re cool! High damage is temporary, coolness is forever!”

“…”

The two seemed to be roommates, and they left the Profession Change Hall together, chatting and laughing.

Soon, a teaching assistant called Lu Fan’s name.

Lu Fan quickly stood up and followed this teaching assistant to the room with the Profession Change Array.

On the way, the teaching assistant explained the steps for Second Profession Change to Lu Fan. Afterguiding him to the room, the assistant left.

In this room, there were only ten stone pillars made of polished crystals, covered in runes. Although the room was dim, these crystals emitted light on their own, so they illuminated the entire room.

Following the teaching assistant’s previous instructions, Lu Fan went to the centre of the stone pillars, sat cross-legged, closed his eyes, and began to carefully sense his surroundings.

As Lu Fan entered a meditative state, the light from the ten stone pillars gradually dimmed, and the surroundings fell into darkness again.

The process of Second Profession Change was very different from First Profession Change. During a Player’s First Profession Change, no one could predict what Profession one would have.

Some people changed into powerful Hidden Professions, while others could only become Lifestyle Specialised Professions, as if predetermined by fate. Thus, it was very hard to predict how things would go.

The First Profession Change was like opening a never before seen path for the Player.

The Second Profession Change was like a fork in the road in front of the Player.

The Player needed to decide which direction they wanted to develop into next.

As for Third Profession Change, it was said to extend this path, reaching a deeper level.

The Fourth Profession Change was said to be connecting this path to Divinity, allowing the Player to touch the threshold of Divine Power through this path.

Lu Fan did not need to consider his Third and Fourth Profession Change for now. His sole concern at the moment was his Second Profession Change.

During Second Profession Change, the Player had the right to make an active choice. That was, during Second Profession Change, the Player would face the future development branches of their Profession through meditation.

The deeper the understanding of the Profession, the more Second Profession branches there would be, and the more choices the Player would have.

For example, if a Mage was proficient in Fire, Lightning, and Wind during their Second Profession Change, they might have the choices of Fire Mage, Lightning Mage, and Wind Mage.

Each Second Profession had different characteristics. Whether one chooses Lightning Mage with stronger Burst Damage, Fire Mage with higher Sustainable Damage Over Time, or the Wind Mage with ability to ensure survivability, it all depended on the Player themself.

Even for the same Mage Profession, if another Mage was proficient in other attributes, their Second Profession Change branches would be different.

Some Players who had an extremely deep understanding of their Profession Characteristics might even encounter Hidden Professions during their Second Profession Change.

There were many such examples in Dragon Country. Although they were only ordinary Combat Specialised Professions during their First Profession Change, these people thoroughly researched their Professions to an extreme degree, and finally took a different path during their Second Profession Change. They gained an option that others did not have, thus obtaining Hidden Professions for their Second Profession.

The power of their Professions was not at all inferior to other Hidden Professions. Therefore, a Player’s Second Profession was actually extremely important. It was another watershed moment that determined the Player’s life after their First Profession Change.

Generally speaking, ordinary Professions have been developed quite thoroughly, and Second Profession branches have mostly been recorded down.

For example, Swordsmen usually branch into Sword Saint and War God; Archers into Ranger and Arrow God; Knights into Guardian Knight and Retribution Knight; and so on.

For Hidden Professions, since there were no precedents, it was impossible to tell what branches would appear during their Second Profession Change. But one thing was certain, the more proficient one was in their Profession, the more branches would appear.

In his meditative state, Lu Fan began to carefully perceive his Profession Characteristics.

Soon, the ten stone pillars around him began to respond.

As the first stone pillar lit up, a Profession Change branch appeared in Lu Fan’s mind – Dragon Priest.

[Dragon Priest, as its name suggests, had weak combat ability by themselves, and relied entirely on their Giant Dragons. The Profession would learn some Buff Skills similar to Priests, making their Pet Dragons even stronger. Of course, the Buff Skills of a Dragon Priest would certainly be much stronger than those of ordinary Priests. From the looks of it, a Dragon Priest with one Pet Dragon can defeat three identical Giant Dragons.]

Lu Fan continued to meditate, and the second stone pillar also lit up.

The second Profession Change branch – Dragon Spellcaster.

[Dragon Spellcaster, as its name suggests, is proficient in Dragon Language Magic. They are able to cast powerful Forbidden Spells, an existence that ordinary Mages could only look up to. This branch is quite similar to Dragon Language Mage, but much stronger because the First Profession of a Dragon Spellcaster would be Dragon Tamer, who has been nourished by Dragon Bloodline. If I pick Dragon Spellcaster, I would be able to use my Pet Dragon’s Skills as my own in the future!]

Next was the third stone pillar and the third Profession Change branch – Dragon Hunter.

[Dragon Hunter, as its name suggests, is physically strong. Just as Dragon Spellcaster is similar to Dragon Language Mage, Dragon Hunter shares some similarities with Dragon Blood Warrior. Pure Dragon Blood would flow in the body of a Dragon Hunter, giving them the power to directly confront the Dragon Race. If I pick Dragon Hunter, I would be able to Dragonise my body, gaining me scales, strength, and even the ability to use Dragon Language Magic of the Dragon Race. Eventually, I might be able to completely transform into a Giant Dragon, possessing world-destroying power.]

[If I become a Dragon Hunter, since I am nourished by different Dragon Bloodlines, the Dragon Blood in my body would be related to all my Pet Dragons. In the future, the Giant Dragon that I transform into might gain the destructive power of Xiao Ye, the Immortal Life Force of Xiao Cui, and I might really become the king of Dragon Kings. Out of all the other options, this might be slightly weaker in the early stages, but has an extremely huge growth potential in the later stages!]

The third branch had already made Lu Fan extremely tempted, but as he continued to meditate, Lu Fan found that his Profession had a fourth Profession Change branch – Silver Dragon Rider.

[The development direction of Silver Dragon Rider is more balanced, not overly emphasising borrowing the power of the Dragon Race, but rather a complementary one with my Pet Dragons. With my Pet Dragons, I would be able to achieve a ‘1+1>2’ effect. This option not only possessed excellent Combat Power on its own, but it would be able to utilise martial techniques that can be coordinated with our Pet Dragons. The relationship with our Pet Dragon would be like that between a Knight and their Mount. They would be mutually helpful companions and comrades-in-arms.]

[Correspondingly, Silver Dragon Riders are not limited to pure Martial Techniques; they also dabble in Dragon Language Magic and Dragon Enhancement Magic. It was just that they were not as potent in these fields as the specialised Dragon Spellcasters or Dragon Priests. Overall, Silver Dragon Riders are more balanced, and they focus more on the cooperation with their Dragon partners.]

[So, in short, a Silver Dragon Rider is a powerful warrior who could stand alone. When cooperating with their Dragon partner, they could exert even more astonishing might.]

After all four Profession branches appeared, the stone pillars stopped lighting up, indicating that these four were all the Profession Change branches Lu Fan could choose from.

Now, it was time for Lu Fan to make a decision about which path he would further develop his Profession on.
